The Stagecoach Inn was built in 1853 as a stagecoach stop on the way from Milwaukeee to Greenbay. The Inn was built from local limestone and housed a pub, floral shop, and rooms for travelers. Next door to the Inn was a stable and blacksmith. Restored in 1984 by Brook and Liz Brown, the Inn now houses a chocolate shop, a pub and 9 guest rooms. The rooms are decorated comfortably with antiques. The Weber Haus Annex is across the street and features 3 rooms with fireplaces and whirlpools, as well as a private garden area. Conveniently located in the Historic District within walking distance to shops, restaurants and galleries. A truly romantic getaway.

The SpaceMy home was constructed in 1922 of hand-laid fieldstone. Over the years, the Mequon clay slowly caused the building to buckle and lean. I straightened, gutted and completely renovated it into a loft-like space over a 7-year period commencing in 2000. The name "Longview" derives from the serene views overlooking the river and surrounding wetland toward the eastern horizon. A long view is also embodied in the home's sustainable design features. This is my writing retreat. It's a place to step back from the immediate demands of day-to-day life and enjoy the view... both outward and inward. This is a clean, simple home in a unique setting. She has qualities that only come with time. Like a compelling companion, she brandishes a depth of character rather than fancy finishes. Guest AccessYou'll have the entire home to yourself. The upper level is an open bedroom suite with a vaulted ceiling and a full bath. The middle entry level has the kitchen, living/dining space and access to the enclosed porch. There is a daybed and trundle bed on the porch. On quiet summer nights, you can fall asleep to the creaking frogs. I have a studio space in the lower level, overlooking the river. It's where I do my writing and some prototyping work. You'll have access the additional bathroom and laundry down there. Some folks like to sit on the unenclosed deck outside my lower-level space, which has stairs to a small deck at the side of the river. You can put in the two-person kayak and go for a paddle. Interaction with GuestsI will give you as much privacy as you wish. Some folks like to have me check in periodically, just to be sure everything's OK. But others use my home as an intimate getaway, and I respect that. When I share my home with you, I'm sharing a bit of me. So I'm always open to good conversation. Sometimes guests want to chat about the sustainable design features. It's what I've done professionally for over thirty years, so I'm glad to share insights about what works and what doesn't ... especially for folks who are contemplating doing these things to a place of their own. I often go for extended sailing cruises during the summer, which is why I make my home available to others. I've taken guests out for a day sail when the weather is propitious ... but you'd need to bring a compelling story to share. For people who contemplate longer stays and don't mind, I'll be doing some chores in the yard. The NeighborhoodThis is an eclectic little community in the country. A mile and a half from the I-43 freeway exit, it's proximate to Milwaukee (30 minutes) and Chicago (2 hours). Both Cedarburg and Thiensville are a five minute ride. I especially appreciate being able to safely bicycle a quiet country road to a paved bike path a little over a mile from here. I seldom use my car ... but then there's winter in Wisconsin. Getting AroundUnless you're inordinately athletic and ambitious, you'll likely need a car. There is an Ozaukee County Shared Ride Taxi for those who are passionate about public transit. I prefer to bicycle. Other Things to NoteWith climate change, the winters are colder and summer is hotter. Over the years, I've found that the tall vertical massing of my home allows it to cool nicely at night. I've not had to use mechanical cooling (air conditioning). In the past, a window air conditioner has done the job on the few hot, humid days. So guests have the choice of passive or mechanical cooling. I don't watch much television, so local air channels (two public television stations!) and a connection for internet-based programming suffices for me. If you are anticipating a longer stay, I may be able to make short-term arrangements for cable TV.

Other Things to NoteWe have a 2 year old Golden Retriever who will likely meet you at the door when you arrive. She is very nice but does love to give "kisses". We also added another member to our family (baby boy) in April of 2015. He has gotten pretty good at waving at people as they come and go. Between the two of them you will be very welcomed into our home!

Welcome to our home - a slice of history -- Frederick Leuning immigrated to the area in 1843 and built a cabin near Cedar Creek and called the cabin ‘Cedarburg’ which meant “ the castle of the cedars.” Our all-inclusive original homestead of 1885 has been completely redesigned, restored, and updated with modern conveniences. We custom designed our home with upscale entertaining in mind, the professionally landscaped patio brings the living space outdoors. Step up into the expansive kitchen, dining, and bar which explodes inside these cozy walls, a 15 x 20 foot space overlooking the patio and creek. New appliances and stainless steel chimney hood add upscale ambiance, while the antique white furniture island brings back the era, with seating for four on comfortable saddle stools. A walk-in pantry, custom kona cabinetry, granite designed counter top, give the upscale kitchen character and charm. Service for 12 ceramic dishes, small appliances, cutlery, stainless steel utensils, pots and pans, and many kitchen ‘extras’ are stocked including linens for ease-free entertaining. Dine at an antique claw-foot pedestal table, seating for four, enameled in a retro accent, with the glowing ambiance of stained glass craftsman-style pendants and chandelier. The living room continues the solid hardwood floor off the kitchen with a framing of kona. The handsome natural gas fireplace looks as original as can be with the reclaimed cream-city-brick of the original chimney’s, enhancing the design. An authentic hand-hued barn beam is re-purposed as the mantle, with the modern 40” LED HD television inset above for meeting modern technological needs, including Apple TV, AT&T; U-Verse and Blue Ray DVD. 1880’s meets today when a restored antique sled is re-purposed as a coffee table. An antique trunk, one that our grandfather used when coming to America from the ‘old-country’, doubles as a coffee table. The view of the back patio, fireplace, and creek from this retreat is spectacular thru the private entrance patio door! The SpaceCathedral ceilings, and lots of windows makes for a welcoming bright atmosphere. It is on the main road however, and the master bedroom can be a bit noisy from time to time, depending on traffic. I have the space listed as being suitable for 3 people, however you are welcome to have more in your party as long as you're aware that it might be a little smaller under those circumstances. Guest AccessGuess will have access to laundry machines, entire kitchen, and bathroom. Essentially the entire apartment is live-in ready, specifically for my needs though. I live alone in this space while I'm not renting it out. I do not have a microwave, hairdryer, or bed stands. Interaction with GuestsI'll be there to check you in, as well as checking out. If anything else is needed during your stay, I'll only be a phone call away (please forgive the rhyming) And if there's anything I can do to improve your stay while visiting, please bring this to my attention as soon as possible. The NeighborhoodJust a few blocks from the harbor and downtown, the house is also located next to the wonderful inter urban bike path. Plenty of bars and restaurants in walking distance, and about a 15 minute car ride from Cedarburg. We've got access to two beaches, as well. Getting AroundBiking, walking, or driving your own vehicle. Other Things to NoteCurrently rebuilding my garage in the backyard, so it tends to look like a construction sight from time to time. Also building a new deck on the second floor. The deck is almost completed, and is a wonderful spot to lounge on. I have a coffee pot with a golden mesh filter, so no paper filters are necessary. Besides that, everything in the kitchen is fairly self-explanatory.
