The SpacePrivate entrance with complete quiet and most private space in this home..Fridge & microwave in room with shared bath down the hall. This room has choice of futons or aerobeds or 2 traditional Twin Size beds .. *WARNING* This is our budget room for students, artists and adventurers.. it's a sometimes cluttered space that might at times smell like hippies or way too much sage depending what group used it prior.. occasionally there are crates of costumes or props or both in the corner. *warning* the sheets may be wrinkled.. they're clean but if I have to fold them I need to start charging more.. oh and there are make believe monsters on the walls... this is what you get for $15 to $20 per night... scary things in room are make believe .. actual monsters incur an additional fee ... :) This room has been a community art space for a few years now where youth and elders of the Bittersweet tribe have gathered to share ideas and break bread. It is the only not "mature" room in the house but it is certainly friendly and welcoming. It is dedicated to the memory of the 23 year old weirdo who created the space and its purpose. The SpaceFrom Labor Day to the end of the June, the house is generally available for long weekends. HOWEVER, if you would like to extend the stay prior to or after, we will consider offers. Two wood stoves add warmth and ambiance. Fenced-in yard, hammock, piano all add to safety, privacy and enjoyment! There will be plenty of wood. Please be vigilant about safety, fire, and the house! It's quiet, safe, residential and unpretentious. You can walk to the beach and small playgrounds. You can bike ride around our neighborhood on the road or down at the beach. You must drive to get to town where there are great restaurants and nice shops, parks, and the harbor. (It's possible to cycle there as well but it's a few miles.) Please arrange to bring your own bicycles. No public transport on Eatons Neck. We have an au pair who lives with us. Her room is separate from the three other bedrooms. If you are a family and interested in an arrangement with her, it is possible she would be willing to work for you while you are here; otherwise, she will be gone from the house. She is mature, warm, and responsible. Guest AccessGuests have access to most everything-barbecue, all rooms. Please inquire about the hot tub if you'd be interested in using it. Interaction with GuestsWe may be able to meet you upon your arrival; otherwise, we will have a caretaker (friend) help you in and check the house before you leave. The NeighborhoodWe love the wooded look of it and the fact that we are in short walking distance from the beach. Long walks along the shore make it so special to live here. It is a residential neighborhood where people are friendly and respectful. Getting AroundThere is no public transport on The Neck. You can park here in the driveway or on the road, no problem. Other Things to NoteThere are plenty of towels, things for the beach/pool, toys for kids, a garden in summer for you to tap, cable tv, an artist easel, music stands, art supplies, food basics (spices, sauces, etc.), a microwave, dishwasher, washer/drier. We have a little cat, Jolie, who will appreciate your opening the door for her to go in/out and feeding her every day or two. Thank you

The SpaceBoth bedrooms have closet, & drawers for your use. One bed is a firm double bed, while the other is a queen with a memory foam mattress topper. Our dining room table seats five; we have a full kitchen with dishwasher and several machines to get your caffeine or help you cook. You can watch the sun set on a hilly tree line from our large front patio, that has a teak dining set that seats six, a grill, and Tiki torches. On the back patio a conversation set faces an outdoor fireplace, to a backdrop of unique masonry from the original owners and lush woods. Downstairs we have a workout room with a full Power Rack, weight bench and pull-up belt in the basement if you want to keep up your exercise routine while away. The living room sits four, and has a 31" flat screen, and a beautiful sound system. Although we don't have cable, we have a decent DVD collect and an Amazon fire stick connects you to numerous streaming services. The sound system connects to speakers in the living room, front & back patios, and work out room. You can listen to something from our expansive CD collection to our favorite classical radio station in Portland. We also have an office area in the living room, and you're welcome to make light use of it (including printer/scanner). We have an extensive library that you're welcome to enjoy as well; it is mostly philosophy and literature. The neighborhood is as quiet as could be hoped for. It's surrounded by woods in the back, and is at the end of a dead-end. During the day, a short 5 minute walk takes you to the private beach with picnic tables and a grill. No need to take the kids all the way to the public, crowded beaches! We're happy to provide everything you need for a fun day at the beach--inflatable water loungers, towels, a cooler, the essential for a picnic. The NeighborhoodOur favorite thing about our neighborhood is its tranquil atmosphere. You'll love being just a train ride to the city, yet having the feel of living far from the commotion. And the city of Huntington is one of the greatest city's on the Island. There is a lively nightlife, with plenty of great music, food and drinks. After three years living here, Shawn hasn't even come close to having tried all the various restaurants. Getting AroundGetting to the LIRR (train) into the city requires a $13 cab ride and a little over 10 minutes. Getting to downtown Huntington takes a little over 5 minutes, and a few dollars less in cab fare. Other Things to NoteDuring the summer months our loving kitty, Cat Stevens, journeys up from New Orleans with Kelly. We occasionally ask guests to look after him in exchange for a modest discount to their reservation. Those with minor to moderate cat allergies will find he isn't a problem. But please let us know if you do have a minor allergy in advance, so we can be sure your stay is an enjoyable one!

The Space+Bedroom: You'll sleep well on our firm full/double bed. A dresser & closet provide ample room to settle in. Plenty of reading material is provided! +Music: We have a beautiful sound system inside & outside of the cottage. You'll usually hear classical music, but we have a great, varied selection to choose from. +Living Room: A 31" flat screen connects to Amazon Fire (Netflix, etc) & a DVD player. You're welcome to make occasional use of our computer and printer. We also have an extensive library that you're welcome to enjoy; it is mostly philosophy and literature (not too light, we know!). +Outside: We've lovingly gardened ever foot of outdoor space (but it will always be a work in progress!). You can watch the sun set on a hilly tree line from the teak dining set on our front patio, or glance up at the stars from our conversation set on the back patio. From there you can also enjoy our outdoor fireplace, make smores, and look up at the unique masonry (a miniature castle and windmill!) and lush woods. If you come at the right time, there's also fresh berries to pick & enjoy! +Exercise: we have a Power Rack and weight bench in the basement if you want to keep your exercise routine while visiting. Past guests have also enjoyed jogging through our hilly neighborhood during their stay. Guest Access+You'll receive your own set of keys to the cottage when you arrive, and are invited to make yourselves at home! Enjoy the common spaces (indoor and out), designated parking spot, and make full use of the kitchen & grill (including breakfast & coffee items, pots, cooking supplies & condiments). We also provide toiletries, bug spray, sunscreen, and the occasional drink or smore! +The bathroom is shared. Interaction with Guests+We're friendly, although sometimes busy, folks. We'll take our cue from you, and interact as little or as much (time permitting) as you'd like. We're happy to provide suggestions for the area based on your interests. The Neighborhood+Town of Huntington: Huntington is one of the greatest cities on the Island. Downtown (five minutes away) is a very lively: shopping, notable restaurants, bars, music venues, and other arts & entertainment. After four years living here, we haven't even come close to having patronized them all. We've listed some of our favorite places in downtown Huntington in our guidebook, but w'ere happy to offer further suggestions to you based upon your tastes. +Town of Northport: Downtown Northport (five minutes away) is located right on the harbor, and is incredibly qauint. It's home to Maroni Cuisine, which won a throw-down against Bobby Flay for their meatballs. Check out our guidebook for our favorite places & reoccurring events here! +Centerport: Centerport (less than five minutes away) is home to the Vanderbilt Estate & Museum, as well as Centerport Beach Park. Vanderbilt offers a wonderful view of the Long Island Sound, as well as interesting events & 'curiosities.' +Knollwood Beach Neighborhood: Our cottage is in a quiet, hilly residential area. We're tucked away in the corner, partially surrounded by woods. A five to ten minute walk past other cottages and beach houses takes you to the neighborhood's private beach. where they have picnic tables and a grill. We're happy to provide everything you need for a fun day at the beach--inflatable water loungers, towels, a cooler. +Other beaches in walking distance: Fleet's Cove Beach is a larger, public beach just down the block from Knollwood's private beach. Crescent Beach is a third beach (large & public) within walking distance. Getting Around+Three beaches are easily walkable from our cottage. Otherwise, having a car, using a cab, or catching a ride with Shawn & I would be preferable to most people. +Downtown Northport and Huntington are both a five minute drive away, (roughly) twelve dollars in cab fare. +To LIRR and NYC: Huntington Station is a fifteen minute drive away. A cab can take you to the station for (roughly) fifteen dollars. Time to Penn Station is is sixty-nine minutes. Other Things to Note+We welcome feline friends, but unfortunately can't host Fido. Please let us know if you'll bring your cat companion with you.
