The Space+Bedroom: You'll sleep well on our firm full/double bed. A dresser & closet provide ample room to settle in. Plenty of reading material is provided!
Music: We have a beautiful sound system inside & outside of the cottage. You'll usually hear classical music, but we have a great, varied selection to choose from.
Living Room: A 31" flat screen connects to Amazon Fire (Netflix, etc) & a DVD player. You're welcome to make occasional use of our computer and printer. We also have an extensive library that you're welcome to enjoy; it is mostly philosophy and literature (not too light, we know!).
Outside: We've lovingly gardened ever foot of outdoor space (but it will always be a work in progress!). You can watch the sun set on a hilly tree line from the teak dining set on our front patio, or glance up at the stars from our conversation set on the back patio. From there you can also enjoy our outdoor fireplace, make smores, and look up at the unique masonry (a miniature castle and windmill!) and lush woods. If you come at the right time, there's also fresh berries to pick & enjoy!
Exercise: we have a Power Rack and weight bench in the basement if you want to keep your exercise routine while visiting. Past guests have also enjoyed jogging through our hilly neighborhood during their stay. Guest Access+You'll receive your own set of keys to the cottage when you arrive, and are invited to make yourselves at home! Enjoy the common spaces (indoor and out), designated parking spot, and make full use of the kitchen & grill (including breakfast & coffee items, pots, cooking supplies & condiments). We also provide toiletries, bug spray, sunscreen, and the occasional drink or smore!
The bathroom is shared. Interaction with Guests+We're friendly, although sometimes busy, folks. We'll take our cue from you, and interact as little or as much (time permitting) as you'd like. We're happy to provide suggestions for the area based on your interests. The Neighborhood+Town of Huntington: Huntington is one of the greatest cities on the Island. Downtown (five minutes away) is a very lively: shopping, notable restaurants, bars, music venues, and other arts & entertainment. After four years living here, we haven't even come close to having patronized them all. We've listed some of our favorite places in downtown Huntington in our guidebook, but w'ere happy to offer further suggestions to you based upon your tastes.
Town of Northport: Downtown Northport (five minutes away) is located right on the harbor, and is incredibly qauint. It's home to Maroni Cuisine, which won a throw-down against Bobby Flay for their meatballs. Check out our guidebook for our favorite places & reoccurring events here!
Centerport: Centerport (less than five minutes away) is home to the Vanderbilt Estate & Museum, as well as Centerport Beach Park. Vanderbilt offers a wonderful view of the Long Island Sound, as well as interesting events & 'curiosities.'
Knollwood Beach Neighborhood: Our cottage is in a quiet, hilly residential area. We're tucked away in the corner, partially surrounded by woods. A five to ten minute walk past other cottages and beach houses takes you to the neighborhood's private beach. where they have picnic tables and a grill. We're happy to provide everything you need for a fun day at the beach--inflatable water loungers, towels, a cooler.
Other beaches in walking distance: Fleet's Cove Beach is a larger, public beach just down the block from Knollwood's private beach. Crescent Beach is a third beach (large & public) within walking distance. Getting Around+Three beaches are easily walkable from our cottage. Otherwise, having a car, using a cab, or catching a ride with Shawn & I would be preferable to most people.
Downtown Northport and Huntington are both a five minute drive away, (roughly) twelve dollars in cab fare.
To LIRR and NYC: Huntington Station is a fifteen minute drive away. A cab can take you to the station for (roughly) fifteen dollars. Time to Penn Station is is sixty-nine minutes. Other Things to Note+We welcome feline friends, but unfortunately can't host Fido. Please let us know if you'll bring your cat companion with you.
