The SpaceCome with your family to our comfortable and spacious summer home in beautiful West Hyannisport, Cape Cod. Our home is located in a quiet, picturesque neighborhood called "the Avenues", just a few short blocks walking distance from our private neighborhood beach! The private beach is part of the Seaside Park Neighborhood. There we have Children's beach which is perfect for infants and toddlers-no waves, very shallow, only about waist high.Just beyond Children's Beach we cross a little peninsula and beyond our peninsula is our own Seaside Beach-the entire Atlantic Ocean!
Our home has an ample backyard, which backs up to the Hyannisport Country Club. The house is not elegant, but it's spacious yet cozy... perfect for a family.Nevertheless,if you are going to go around the house with white gloves, this is not the house for you as we are a large, boisterous family. We live with a dog (but she is not permitted upstairs and NOT in the beds.)There is a large and fully equipped eat-in kitchen, big living room, and separate den. There are four bedrooms which sleep seven people comfortably. We have 2.5 baths, one with washer and dryer. Please note that there is NO central air conditioning. But then, you don't really need it-the house has large ceiling fans in most rooms and there is always a breeze off the ocean water.
One well-behaved pet (upon approval) is allowed with a $200 returnable fee if all is ok at the end of your stay. Your pet MUST be house-trained and non-destructive to furniture, woodwork, etc. Only dogs that are flea and tick protected are allowed. The backyard is large (though not fenced-in) but please remember that you are responsible for all clean-up after your animal. Non-compliance of these rules will result in forfeiture of funds.
Our peaceful neighborhood is only 1.5 miles from bustling Main Street, Hyannis. There you'll find restaurants, shopping, the John F. Kennedy Museum,a main park, our very favorite breakfast spot, and plenty of things to entertain the kids.
We are truly located in the center of everything the Cape has to offer. If you prefer more beach action, Craigville Beach is less than a mile away where the college/teenage kids like. Covells Beach is less than a mile down and is residents only for parking there. But you can walk in to all the beaches on the Cape for free !! Kalmus Beach, known for windsurfing, is also located close by. Spend an afternoon on the Cape Cod Bike Trail or an evening with the Beach Boys or Steve Miller Band at the Melody Tent, our local music venue. Day ferries to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket leave right from downtown Hyannis. Fishing boats dock there too,so it is super easy to find fishing trips. You can throw a line off the pier too.
You really should have a car to enjoy Cape Cod, but its a great place for walking. There are some old bikes in the garage you can have access to, but they haven't been used in some (URL HIDDEN) if you are particular about bicycles, rent one locally,or bring your own. During the winter, we shut off the cable and internet service. Also if you are there in the winter and it snows (rarely does) ,you will have to shovel the walk .
Don't forget, world famous "Four Seas Ice Cream" is just past Craigville Beach. It was Jackie Kennedy Onassis' favorite spot to go with the Secret Service!( they tell me Caroline Kennedy had the peach ice cream served at her wedding at Our Lady of Victories Church down the street from Four Seas).
Please send a reference to yourself that includes a photograph- a real photo of you ,not of the dog. I like to speak to all of our guests on the phone before they come. We also speak Spanish and Greek. Guest AccessI, or someone in the family will generally meet you at the house and give you the keys.
If you come with a dog, please remember that there is a strict leash law here. Dogs are not allowed on beaches in the summer months- although if you like, I will give you the names of some isolated sweet water ponds nearby where people take their dogs for swimming. Further east on the cape there are small, secret ocean beaches that dogs go on. Of course there are no lifeguards there but dogs roam freely there. Interaction with GuestsIf for any reason there is a problem, you will be given the phones numbers to several members of the family, probably my brothers Jack or Phillip or sister Rosa. There is also a handyman that has the key to the house in case there is any real emergency-but up to now we have never had one. The NeighborhoodThe Avenues neighborhood is perfect for families, the streets are very quiet and kids can bike , walk safely. About half the people are summer residents. Getting AroundFor some reason, the Avenues neighborhood doesn't register in most
GPS' that I have used. I will just give you an address that will work though.
There really isn't any public transportation but you can call a taxi. The airport and bus station is in downtown Hyannis. Other Things to NoteBedsheets and towels will be provided. You should bring your own beach towels- although I will have some for you if you need extras . I ask the guests to keep bath towels in the house and beach towels outside-cape codders just hang them on the fence /clothesline to dry-outside so the sand doesn't come in.
Coffee and tea will be in the cabinets. .Of course, the staples like mustard, ketchup etc will be there. The closest supermarket is Shaw's Market on West Main St and Old Craigville Rd, about a mile away. There is a tiny general store within walking distance (Craigville General store) for milk, bread, newspapers, etc for the basics),there is also Craigville Pizza next door where the pizza is sensational. In 10 minutes' walk from the house.
