Each bed in the dormitory, for example, has its own night light so reading at night doesn’t bother others, personal safe boxes in the room, free filtered drinking water and a beautiful recreation area, including a balcony with plants and hammocks, were people can relax, read and socialize are only some of the features the Nega offers. Other services included are an all you can eat buffet type breakfast (2 fruits, cheese, ham, freshly baked bread, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, tomatoes, cucumbers, 3 types of jam, fresh fruit juice and a daily surprise…), bed sheets and towels (free), internet (2 general computers) and Wi-Fi (free), Laundry, safe deposit boxes in the rooms, Storage (free), fully equipped bar, Exchange library, coffee all day (free), airport pickup (R$80), currency exchange, no curfew, no lockout and much much more. The NegaMaluca guesthouse offers mainly dormitory rooms but has also 3 private rooms. A fully equipped kitchen caters to all our guests needs. Each dormitory room consist of 8-10 beds each, all but one are air conditioned and are all mixed sexes. Each room has a designed wall painted in a unique color and this is also how the rooms get their names. The purple room, yellow, orange etc. Your security is very important to us. We have double front doors, the external made from Metal, Security camera over the front door, a night guard on watch, metal bars on lower windows, personal safe boxes in the rooms and we even trained Stomp the cat as an attack cat…..;-))) Going from one place to another in Salvador is very easy, since we are located very close to a bus station with buses going everywhere. The SpaceCome spend Carnaval and the World Cup with our family! I am an American living in Brazil with my Brazilian wife and our 9 year old son. We've been renting beds for years now and can provide lots of advice as to what to do and what to avoid during the Carnaval season. Although we all like to have fun and the beer and caipirinhas will be flowing, we do ask that any hard-core partyers think twice about staying here. Guest AccessKitchen, living/dining area, patio Interaction with GuestsWe share the common areas and are generally around if we are not working. We are always available to answer questions, etc. The NeighborhoodDois de Julho is an old and historic neighborhood, Jorge Amado, author and Bahia's favorite son, set the novel 'Dona Flor and her two husbands' here, and it was also home to the poet Castro Alves. Once an upscale location, it has ridden the booms and busts of Brazil's economy. A recent, poorly conceived renovation has fallen into disrepair as there is no budget to maintain it. However, the largo is home to many things: our street has two music studios and there is a luthier around the corner - there are performance spaces and a musical venue. There are also lots of restaurants, two small supermarkets, a pharmacy, a dvd rental store, an art supply store, a graffiti supply store, a pizzeria, a dollar store, and several shops selling craft supplies. There are fruit and vegetable stands, a yoga studio, a bike shop, and even a center for traditional Chinese medicine. There are at least three bakeries in operation here. Pelourinho, malls, and movie theaters are within easy walking distance, as are the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) and the Museum of Sacred Art (Museu de Arte Sacra). The largo is home to doctors and lawyers, artists and musicans, but also has inexpensive boarding houses that are home to many people of much more modest income. The largo also has its share of homeless people and dogs, drunks, drug addicts, and assorted troublemakers. The streets are narrow, paved with old fashioned paving stones, and most of them, ours included, have at least one humble bar that can get loud, particularly on the weekends. A friend of mine from New York City who has been coming to Bahia for thirty years claims Dois de Julho as his favorite neighborhood in all of Salvador, due to its unique character and location in the city center. I personally couldn't imagine living anywhere else in the city. Getting AroundThe house is in the center of the city and public transport as well as taxis are readily available for places that are not within walking distance.

There are at least 6 bus stops within 300 meters from the house and a Bus Station (footwall) about 1 km. You can go wherever you want. THE "ROOM'S OWNER" + FAMILY: Our family is small but well shaken. Currently, four people live in the house: me, my sister, my mother and my father. Interaction is always very pleasant, harmonious and fun. Constantly, we are visited by relatives (cousins, uncles, etc..), which gives more action to the house. About the routine and occupation of the hosters, I prefer talk by message and, but I consider it really interesting. In an exchange program, we have received an American for 2 months early that aimed to learn the Portuguese language and to know more about the culture. Of such satisfaction and living with his family, he returned to our house on his own to spend another 6 months. We can pass the contact of the guy, as a reference, but also prefer not to expose him in this initial contact. About me, I am a man of 19 years old and study business at UFBa. Currently, I have a pretty full routine, because I study, work and starting a business, but always find time for anything else. I believe that every relationship comes with an enriching experience, as it was with our first guest. I am organized, spend little time in my room, but I like to have my space. So...if the person is interested in not only "bed and breakfast", but rather, a cool relationship with the hosts, come with an open heart. I'm sure the experience will be rewarding. The NeighborhoodA casa fica localizada no bairro do Canela, sendo EXTREMAMENTE bem localizada. Other Things to NoteO "DONO DO QUARTO" + A FAMILIA: Nossa família é pequena, mas bem agitada. Atualmente, moram 4 pessoas na casa: eu, minha irmã, minha mãe e meu pai. A convivência é sempre bem agradável, harmoniosa e divertida.

The SpaceThe Bucaneve Apartment is a fully independent apartment located inside a colonial house restored in 2013 in the very historic heart of Salvador. It was transformed in a 4 apartments house. It has a high finishing standard, it is well decorated and comfortable equipped with kitchen tools so you can prepare meals and welcome friends for dinner. Feauturing a veranda in the bedroom and a winter garden in the living room, Apartment Bucaneve is very private and silent making it possible to have a good night of sleep after enjoying the nights of lively Salvador. Interaction with GuestsWhen I'm not around, my friend Ed Santiago takes care of everything including welcoming the guests. He lives nearby in one of the apartments of the same building. He is a local and he loves to give recommendations about places of interest. He also enjoys meeting people and talking. Besides Portuguese, he also speaks fluent English, French and some Spanish. The NeighborhoodThe Santo Antonio neighbourhood, also known as Santo Antônio Além do Carmo is one of the most fantastic neighbourhoods in Salvador. The houses architecture resemble Pelourinho with their colonial style, lively colours and lovely Portuguese tiles but differently from the former, they are mostly residences in which local people have lived for many years and make it a very friendly place. It is also very tranquil area and it is ideal for those who would like to be next to festivals, music, Carnival and fun, but still be able to have a silent place to sleep and rest at night. As it is located in the historical district there are often police cars going by the streets and that makes it safer than most places in Salvador, however it is recommended to be street wise. Getting AroundThe building is located in the main street and as there is internet available it is very easy to call a taxi/uber if you want to visit other areas of the city. There are many interesting spots like restaurants with good food and view to the All Saints Bay, bars, art galleries, museums, festivals and cultural activities that can be reached on foot. If you want to visit other parts of the city, it is also possible to take buses at Praça da Sé to visit other neighborhoods. If you are adventure spirited you can also visit the beautiful beaches and islands around Salvador, once the apartment is located close to the harbour and passengers terminals to explore the Bay of All Saints. Other Things to NoteTransfer service can be arranged on request (additional cost). Further information on how to get to the apartment is available after booking confirmation.

You'll be a five minute walk from night life, yet will appreciate coming back home to this low-key neighborhood and quiet street. **Note: Please message me before requesting a reservation so I can answer all your questions!** Our house is three floors. On the first floor is a suite, the second has two bedrooms, and the third is the covered roof deck, which is well ventilated and has a small view to the city. Let's start there: from the terrace you'll enjoy a view of the city, and can use the grill or anything else you'd like. We also have an extra stove up here for making tea, etc. You can also hang, have dinner, stretch, exercise, knock yourself out! Please note that the access to the terrace is through our bedroom, which we keep open almost all day to ensure guests can access the roof. Downstairs, the private suite is simple, comfortable and has a small private bathroom inside. You'll also have shelving, clothing racks, a ceiling fan and a normal fan. It's important to note that the room's window goes onto the living room, not directly onto the outside. It's never been an issue, but we like to let people know! The kitchen is small, but includes all the pots, pans and utensils you'll need. Fridge space and shelf space, too. If you're not into cooking, you'll still love the big kitchen table in the dining area. The kitchen is small, but decked out with all the pots, pans and utensils you'll need. We have a shelf of basic items to help guests as well, like beans, lentils, oils, etc. If you're not into cooking, you'll still love the big kitchen table in the dining area. There are two living room spaces: one downstairs at the entrance of the house and one upstairs that sometimes serves as a room. They are both fairly breezy and have comfortable seating and hammocks. The outdoor spaces are also really special. One small patio area opens out from the first floor, and is home to the washing machine, two bathrooms and a little garden. Storage space is also available there, should you need it. Then upstairs is the covered roof deck - the best space for hanging clothes, enjoying the view, all that. Seja bem-vindo! Guest AccessWe provide a map of our area, with our recommendations for sights and activities in Salvador, when guests arrive. We want people to feel comfortable in the neighborhood! Inside the house, guests have access to all common spaces. We have three outdoor spaces as well as a sun room, living room, and breakfast area for relaxing in the house. Guests have free access to wifi. We provide towels and sheets, and can provide shampoo, condition and soap upon request. We ask for a 25 reais contribution per load to use our laundry machine. Interaction with GuestsFuca and I both love getting to know our guests. We also know, though, that people often come to spend time with their friends, have alone time, and explore the city. I work full time, so am gone during the day. Email me or text any time if you need help! Fuca works, too, but has a more flexible schedule, and will probably be around more often. When we're at home, we always love to spend time at the restaurants around our house, and always love to bring interested guests with us. The NeighborhoodWe live in a neighborhood called Santo Antônio, which is an historic neighborhood with restaurants, galleries, cafés and the feeling of a small town. It's next to the famous historical center of Pelourinho, but it's much quieter and less touristy, so it's a great place to come back to. It is a quiet area with beautiful, old buildings and some of Salvador's best hotels and inns. Ours is a small and humble side street with a great community of neighbors. One side of the neighborhood looks out over the bay, so you'll have plenty of chances go out for delicious food or a cold beer while watching the sunset over the water, or seeing all the lights of the bay and lower city at night. You will find most of what you need here in Santo Antônio. There are bakeries, supermarkets, bars and restaurants, and bus stops all in the area. But careful, on Sundays many things in Brazil close early or don't open at all. Getting AroundWe live within a short walk of public transportation that can get you to almost every part of the city. We have a transfer available from the airport to our house (and vice versa if you'd like) with a driver who's worked with us for a long time and knows the house well. If you're interested, please send your full flight info!

The SpaceAre you coming to Salvador for a week or two and need a place to stay? Want to avoid the chaos of Pelourinho and the high costs of Barra? Interested in staying with a family? Well, why don't you come stay with us! I am an expat American married to a Brazilian and we have a 9 year old son. Dois de Julho is an historic neighborhood located about 15 minutes walk from Pelourinho, right in the center of the city. We are renting out our guest room, which is on the first floor and has a bathroom right next door. The location is ideal for anyone wanting to take classes at the Escola de Dança in Pelourinho or train Capoeira in Pelouinho or at FICA or ACANNE, both of which are located here in Dois de Julho. Here at our house you would have access to our kitchen and living/dining room. We have a washing machine, we charge R$5 a load to wash clothing, which then can be hung on the line to dry. We have wireless internet in-house, and a computer available if you don't have a wireless device. Suitable for a couple (it's a double bed). We are not located on the beach, the closest beach is in Barra, which is a short bus/cab ride away. Smokers OK but you have to smoke outside on the patio! The room is on the first floor, located between the living room and the first floor bathroom. The window lets onto the air shaft in the center of the house. There is a rod to hang shirts and a small, five drawer dresser. The room has a ceiling fan and mosquito net. If you have any questions please feel free to ask! Guest AccessGuests have access to the downstairs of the house, which includes the kitchen, dining/living room, and patio, as well as the two rooms we rent out. Interaction with GuestsSince we live in the house, we interact a lot with our guests. It's a great opportunity for my son to practice his English, and we enjoy getting to know travelers from all over the world. However, we don't generally make big meals that we can share with our guests, and our bedrooms are upstairs, which often leaves the downstairs free for our guests. The NeighborhoodDois de Julho is an old and historic neighborhood. Jorge Amado, author and one of Bahia's favorite sons, set the novel 'Dona Flor and her two husbands' here, and it was also home to the poet Castro Alves. Getting AroundAs the house is located in the center of the city, there is easy access to city buses to all parts of the city, and the Lapa bus terminal is a short walk from the house. There is a taxi stand right on the corner. Other Things to NoteWe are not located on the beach, the closest beach is in Barra, which is a short bus/cab ride away.

The SpaceNOTE, FLEXIBILITY TO ACCOMMODATE YOUR DESIRED CHECK IN TIME DEPENDS ON FAMILY PRIORITIES (WE HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN) AND MY TRAVEL FOR WORK - BUT WE WILL DO WHAT WE CAN TO CHECK YOU IN AS CLOSE TO THE TIME THAT YOU WANT •Large studio in Nazaré/Pelourinho (2 minute taxi to Praça da Sé, Pelourinho) with balcony, second floor with excellent cross-ventilation between street and private entrance stairway, fully-equipped kitchen, ensuite, high speed wifi and cable internet included, cable/pay TV, 24 hour security and intercom. •Part of colonial mansion (Mansão Bângala), in the street where the famous bossa nova singer Dorival Caymmi was born (URL HIDDEN) completely restored in 2011 with European design and finishing. 5 minute walk to Pelourinho just outside the bustle, mid-point between iconic sites Barra (with lighthouse and beautiful beach) and Igreja do Bonfim (Bonfim Church) with short taxi ride to both, short walk to Carnaval Pelourinho and Campo Grande circuits. •100m to famous Mouraria open air bars/restaurants at back of the army barracks, a great, relatively cheap but good quality option for local food and to experience the quintessential Brazilian barzinho with a friendly, noisy atmosphere. The bar Koisa Nossa on the corner is famed as having Salvador’s best “empada” (pastry with savory filling), the bar Arena da Lambretta has wifi and a great moqueca, and the bar Amigo Espetinho painted in yellow has excellent caipirinhas and finger food. These bars are famous for being the post-football match bars so worth trying to see a match during your stay and enjoy the bars afterwards (see below about the football matches) •Available for short term and long term rent, fully furnished with high-end furniture (optional for longer term rental). •Rental direct from Australian-Bahian couple owners; English, Portuguese and Spanish spoken; plenty of free tips on how to experience the best of Bahian culture, cuisine, music, beaches and surf; eg. live jazz at sunset at the restored customs house overlooking Bahia de Todos os Santos, Salvador’s best ice cream on the old seafront at Ribeira, or watching the ‘gente bonita’ (beautiful people) and tackling a great surf break at a classic beach bar on the northside of the city, and – of course – all the best live music events and festivals for which the city is renowned. •Dave has worked and lived in almost all countries across Latin American countries and so has plenty of good tips for your Latin America continental adventure (as well as many other countries in Africa and Asia) •Furnishing (optional for longer term rental): table, 2 wooden chairs, wooden desk, sofa, colonial sideboard, TV with cable/pay service, fan, closed and open storage spaces, double bed (with 4 storage drawers beneath), 2 bedside tables, large bathroom with “Hollywood mirror”, kitchen exhaust fan, stove, full-sized fridge with freezer, microwave, coffee brewer, sandwich maker, iron cutlery, crockery and utensils, bed sheets, towels, soap. •Complimentary fruit bowl and wine (for 4+ nights). •Note, 1) not very suitable for young children (less than 5 years old), 2) late check in (ie. between 7pm and 7am by prior agreement only). Note we also have a beach apartment in Arembepe that we rent from time to time if you are interested: a great option for those who want to experience an authentic fishing village on the Bahian coast with the convenience of being easily accessible by taxi from the center of Salvador (45 minutes) or Salvador’s international airport (20 minutes) The NeighborhoodThe Historic Centre of Salvador is an amazing place, we love living here (we own the building where the apartment is and live with our two kids in a separate part) – its spectacular colonial Portuguese architecture, music rich with Latin rhythm and African beat, cuisine and the unique cultura afrobaiana. However, to be very honest, it is not the laid back context that it used to be 10-15 years ago. Assaults and pickpocketing do occur and have become more violent/dangerous with more guns throughout Salvador and Brazil. I have never been assaulted in 4 years living in the area (and I look very ‘gringo’), but I do follow the detailed maps and guidance about the neighbourhood and Salvador that we provide guests with. We don’t recommend walking after dark to and from the main squares in Pelourinho, or anywhere in Salvador really, unless you know the area well. This means you have to take a taxi after dark. During the day, on a busy street, assault is not unavoidable but it is rare. All of this could be solved by effective policing but we recommend avoiding contact with police unless you really need them, they are not trained do support tourists and can be involved in criminal activity themselves. Note, it is safe to walk to the bars and restaurants just near the apartment because they are for locals and not frequented by tourists much (they also have a great vibe, and are good quality at a reasonable price). Despite all of this advice, remember that over 99% of ‘soteropolitanos’ (people from Salvador) are incredibly friendly and kind.
