"The Glade" as we call our home in Southwest Virginia is a fully restored 1910 Victorian farmhouse located on 62 park like acres. As private as The Glade is, it is only five miles from Wytheville with shopping, restaurants, hospital and is conveniently located near the crossroads of I-81 and I-77. As you arrive you will find signage directing you to the access to The Glade which is only accessed by our own 135' bridge which crosses Reed Creek. Reed Creek which in essence surrounds most of the property is a year round spring fed wide creek which flows into the New River. The Glade has two rental options, The Farmhouse with 4 bedrooms and 2.5 baths and The Cottage with one bedroom and full bath. The Farmhouse and The Cottage both have outside decks overlooking beautiful views of Reed Creek. The Cottage will not be rented separately if The Farmhouse is rented to another group. The Cottage has a mini fridge and outside grill but is not set up for full meal preparation, whereas The Farmhouse is fully stocked for all meal preparation. For guests with mobility issues The Cottage offers the fewest steps for a full bathroom as the Farmhouse only has a powder room on the first floor with two full baths upstairs. Rates that are published are for The Farmhouse only. Your time at The Glade can be as relaxed or as strenuous as you like. From rocking on our wrap around porch, to hikes over easy to difficult terrain, fishing, kayaking, mountain biking, or group activities on our 3 acre groomed lawn. The property can be best described as a private park with tremendous diversity; including wooded trails, open meadows, rock cliffs, and creekside "beaches". THE RATES SHOWN ARE ONLY FOR THE FARMHOUSE which sleeps 8. If the cottage which sleeps 2 is rented along with the farmhouse discounting of the combined rental applies. WHEN THE RATE IS CALCULATED AUTOMATICALLY, IT DOES NOT CALCULATE THE COTTAGE OPTION ONLY THE FARMHOUSE RENTAL OPTION, YOU WILL NEED TO CONTACT OWNER IF YOU DESIRE TO RENT THE COTTAGE, OR IF THERE ARE MORE THAN 8 GUESTS. The cottage will NOT be rented separately if the farmhouse is rented to a different party so as to assure the privacy of the guests. Cottage will be rented as a stand alone rental only if the farmhouse is not rented during that period. The cottage does not have a kitchen, but does have a mini-fridge, coffee maker, and outside gas grill. Cost for the cottage: Daily rate $50. week nights $60. weekend nights, which we consider to be Friday, Saturday and Sunday Weekly rate $300. Pet fee per stay up to one week $30. Cleaning fee $30. Additional fees may apply: - COTTAGE RENTAL will be necessary when over 8 guests unless prior written owner approval. | 50 USD per day Wytheville is at the crossroad of two major interstates, I -81 and 1-77 and is known as "The Crossroads of The Blue Ridge", located about halfway between Roanoke and Bristol Virginia. The Glade is a charming and secluded fully restored victorian farmhouse on 62 parklike acres, and conveniently located just 5 miles from an I-81 access point and the town of Wytheville, Virginia with all essentials including dining, shopping and medical care close by. The Glade is within easy driving distance of Jefferson National Forrest, New River Trail State Park, The Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail, and other outdoor activity sites. There are several wineries and vineyards nearby, as well as the Wolfarht House Dinner Theatre and Log House Restaurant both offering an entertaining and interesting dining option. However, most guests find themselves actually spending most of their time here on the property exploring and enjoying the 62 parklike acres or simply relaxing on our large wrap around porch or on our decks off the back overlooking Reed Creek .

Come stay at the Rural Retreat Winery suite. It is a 1500 square foot fully furnished suite on the second floor above the Rural Retreat Winery tasting room where you can look out over the historic train depot and enjoy the quaint town of Rural Retreat. The town, once known as the Cabbage Capital of the world had tons of cabbage brought in from neighboring farm lands and loaded on the steam trains. O. Winston Link made the depot famous in his 1957 Christmas eve photos and recording. The combination of the photo and recording is most unusual for that time period was a grand farewell to the passenger train service in the area. The town was also the home of Dr. Charles Pepper and the soft drink as legend has it, is one of his concoctions made in the local pharmacy to make you feel better. The town certainly has some stories to be told, come join us and make a few memories for yourself. Getting There: Located 71 miles from Roanoke Virginia's airport, 75 miles from Bristol Tennessee's airport, and only 120 miles from Charlotte North Carolina's airport The Glade is within reach. From Wytheville exit 70 on Interstate 81, continue right on Highway 52 N / Stoney Fork Road for 2.7 miles to State Road 664 / Glade Road on the left, continue 2.3 miles on Glade Road to the address and sign on the left. Cross the bridge and continue to the right +- 400' to the parking area, which is adequate for 4 vehicles. The private 135 foot bridge is the only access to The Glade as Reed Creek meanders for 1 mile around the property and the steep ridge in the back renders it virtually inaccessible otherwise. The Accommodations : The 1910 restored and updated Victorian Farmhouse and cottage are located on a 7 acre peninsula. It features a large porch on two sides with rockers facing the gardens and the 4 acre manicured lawn on the bottom land where the vegetable, herb garden, and berry patch are located. The Property: 'The charm of the property is impossible to describe, but anyone who visits feels it's enchantment. The charm lies neither in its architecture, though it has a certain rural 'kindness', nor in it's formal plan but in the site itself, the variety of spaces and experiences and the way people from one family have made themselves at home here for five generations.' The Glade's sixty two park like acres are varied in terrain, with steep creek side ridges, open meadows, heavily wooded forrest trails, and pastoral grassy paths alongside a wide spring fed creek. Your visit may be relaxing, active, romantic, or a family reunion with multiple generations getting together. The SpaceOur space is still being prepared, although at this time we can only accommodate 2 people, we will have 2 more bedrooms available soon. We don't quite have everything exactly the way we want it but as we complete projects we will add photos. The house itself is a brick ranch, built in the 70's. It is very private. We have no TV service. Bring your own wifi to stay in touch with your world - 5 bars. Guest AccessSomeone is living in and using the basement. You will have access to the top floor only. There is a full kitchen with a coffee maker, dining room and lounge, but not, as yet, fully furnished. Please respect the privacy of any guests who may be sharing the space. The 'Music Room' is off limits unless the guy downstairs invites you to join in the fun, which he most likely will do. Please feel free to walk around the property and enjoy the views. If you open any gates please close them behind you. Interaction with GuestsI am more than happy to make your stay as comfortable and interesting as possible. We have a lot going on at Painted Pony Ranch; music; Tai Chi; art and soapmaking classes, and more. While you are using the house, these activities will be suspended so you can have total privacy. If you are interested in any of these activities, let us know so we can keep them in the schedule. The NeighborhoodBest restaurants in the area are The Front Porch (Pop-Up,) located in downtown Tazewell; Your Grate Escape; Fisher and Company, across from Crab Orchard Museum, and the well known Cuz's Uptown Barbecue located on 19/460 toward Richlands. Lincolnshire Park is just a few miles east and is a beautiful place for an easy hike around the lake on a well marked trail. You can buy gifts or souvenirs at Between Friends, on Main Street in Tazewell; The Crab Orchard Museum on 19 W; or at the Appalachian Arts Center, also on 19/460 W about 12 miles further west. There are usually art/music events going on around the area, which I am happy to help you locate. Getting AroundEven though we are close to the small town of North Tazewell, we are talking rural here. There is public transportation, but your best bet is drive wherever you want to go. You are not in walking distance of much, except a perennial garage sale and a convenience store. Other Things to NoteAt present we do not have locks on individual bedroom doors. There will be someone on premises at all times, during your stay, to insure the safety of you and your valuables. This is an extremely safe area. We also have a large art collection. Most of the paintings are by Western Artist, A. Kelly Pruitt ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) and are for sale by private treaty, (SIO).
