The SpaceThis is a retreat for people wanting to explore another culture, volunteer, or just get out of the West for the winter. Although you don't have to have a low income retirement pension, lower income women will have first choice as we fill up. You will need at least $700 a month income to have a great time. You will have a private room with bath, queen or king size bed, a table and 2 chairs, closet and staff to wait on you. You will be treated like a king/queen. The kitchen is always open. You will have access to the entire building, 2 living room areas, rooftop and restaurant. All the food you want to eat is included, prepared to your order. Everything is included except for personal items and souvenirs. It will be a long, fun-filled adventure that really won't need to quit until you are ready to go back home. I'm creating a way for the women to stay longer than 10 months, having a better visa ($10 or so per month). You will eat the same quality of food as I do and ride in the same car as I will-everything quality! This village is still in the Ktm Valley, but up high with a nice breeze and excellent views. The people are warm and friendly. The air is clean and if you hear dogs barking at night they are usually a long way off, not loud enough to wake you. Nepal has a very low violent crime rate against foreigners. Even the police are amazing! We will have a 10-12 seat van and driver at your disposal and will be taking everyone to Ktm or other places daily. If you have a volunteer gig or need to see a dentist or just do some shopping you will ride in style. Everything is included in the monthly price. I've been here 3 1/2 years and have great referrals to doctors and dentists. You won't believe the price of dental, for example. I just had some dental work done for under $250 that would have cost over $3,000 in the US. And it was state of the art. The SpaceOur homestay is the perfect place to escape the noise of Kathmandu and enjoy a peaceful rural atmosphere with a local family. We’ll provide you with a private room with a raised double bed, a single mattress on the floor, and great views of the Kathmandu Valley. You can enjoy the sun and fresh air at our nice rooftop-terrace whilst watching authentic rural Nepalese life going on around you. We live on the ground floor, so our guests have their own private space on the first floor and roof-top. Our house is very peaceful -- the only noises you will hear are the quacking of ducks and bleating of goats! Guest AccessOur house has three rooms for rent. Two of the rooms share one toilet and the rooftop-room has a private toilet. We have Wi-Fi available for all the rooms. Included in the price is a Nepalese breakfast (chapatti, eggs and tea). If you wish we also run a restaurant where you can order home-cooked dishes, both Western and Nepalese. Interaction with GuestsIf you are interested we can teach you how to cook some traditional Nepalese dishes such as Dhaal Baat and Momos. My wife is an excellent cook, and you can learn to cook over a wooden fire in our kitchen. Please note that this is a rural Nepalese experience, so we have electricity cuts during the day. We don't always have hot water, but my wife is happy to heat water for you to shower with. Guests can have as much or as little interaction with our family as they like. We are here to make sure that you are comfortable, feel welcome, and get a taste of the peaceful rural life of Nepal. We truly believe in sharing our rich culture with our visitors! The NeighborhoodChangu Narayann is a beautiful village; it has no cars, just magnificent views over the Kathmandu Valley to the Langtang mountains. It's a very peaceful place to spend a few days whilst enjoying the authentic Nepali village lifestyle. The ancient temple and town of Changu Narayan is located on a high hilltop that is also known as Changu or Dolagiri. The temple is surrounded by forest with champak trees and a small village. We are about 8 miles east of Kathmandu and a few miles north of Bhaktapur, and the Manahara River flows beside the hill. This shrine is dedicated to Lord Visnu and held in especial reverence by the Hindu people. This temple is considered to be the oldest temple in Nepal. Getting AroundThere are direct buses that leave to Bhaktapur and Kathmandu every 30 minutes, all day long. Taxis are also available. We are also happy to arrange airport pickup, if you need it. Other Things to NoteThere is a 100 NPR (~1USD) admission fee the first time you enter Changu Narayan. You only pay it once and it helps to restore the temple. Also, please note that this is a traditional Nepalese house, so we have frequent power cuts and hot water may not always be available (although my wife is always happy to heat water for you which you can use to shower with).

The SpaceOur Nepali family has a thangka school so our rooms look like I spent a fortune on decorating. I love going to Pottery Square and Kathmandu to score some beautiful decorations, so the rooms look more like a bedroom than a hotel room. Out of our 14 rooms only 4 are guest bedrooms, so it's a much more personal experience than many guest houses. We always, always, always wash the sheets between guests and include a top sheet and matching ensomble, cotton towels, etc. and organic coffee anytime of day at no charge for our guests and even our guests'guests. You will likely make friends here very quickly and you are welcome to bring them home for coffee or tea. Guest AccessWe continue to decorate the rooms and you will be happy to see the improvements we continue to make. You can sit on the rooftop terrace and have tea or organic coffee, or sit in the dining room or hang out in the guest living room. If you want to make some food we can show you how to use the stove and show you around in the kitchen. I am so excited to announce that we are covering half of the rooftop so we can sit in the shade up there. We have plastic tables with umbrellas but sometimes the breeze is too much and the umbrellas get blown too hard. Everyone loves the rooftop so now it will be even better. Our guests sit up on our rooftop terrace for hours. We do not keep alcohol on hand, but we can send out for whatever you like. Interaction with GuestsI'm available for you with tips and tricks for making the most of your stay in Nepal. Ask me about our free eBook to help you get your trip to Nepal off a great start. It's free. The NeighborhoodWe have so many cute kids in the village who play outside with homemade toys. Seldom will you hear a child cry. You'll see women walking by with a couple goats or sheep or perhaps harvesting their little crop. Our hilltop is always a busy place for the villagers, so sitting on the roof is relaxing, but not boring. Getting AroundFew cars come all the way to the end of the village, so it's really quite. Your taxi can get through but it's better if you don't have too much luggage to walk from the bus park. It's a lovely walk. We usually go to Kathmandu by car at least once a week. If you are here when we go you are welcome to come along with us. Other Things to NoteYou can bird watch. Be sure to bring a good pair of binoculars. We have eagles and many other bird species. Our rooftop is great for birding. We are on 5 permit-free trekking routes and many of our guests enjoy the 4 1/2 hour trek to Nagarkot on their last day and stay over-night there to see the amazing sunrise over the Himalayas and even Mt. Everest the next morning.
