The SpaceYou would be staying in a beautiful, private double room that overlooks our garden and has a private ensuite. Our house is situated on the main street of the quaint little village of Charmouth, with the beach only a short walk away. This is part of the Jurassic Coast, an area famous for its fossiling and historic findings by Mary Anning. The room includes a large double bed, plenty of wardrobe space, television and DVD player and access to the balcony overlooking the garden. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in your room and you are of course very welcome to sit out and relax with your cup of tea on the balcony. A modern en-suite bathroom (shower only) is attached and the room has a corridor that separates it from the rest of the house, ensuring complete privacy. A continental breakfast is included in your stay but please let us know of any dietary requirements and we would be happy to accommodate these. Wifi is also available, and linen for indoor use is provided. Guest AccessOur guests are welcome to use the kitchen and family room, which is where breakfast will be served. On a warm, sunny day the garden is perfect to use for breakfast or to simply relax. There is also space for one car to park at the back of the house, off the main road. Interaction with GuestsWe are warm and friendly hosts and we hope our home reflects this. We love meeting people and have lived in Charmouth for almost 20 years (infact Nick also grew up here) so are available to chat or give you advice on where to go or what to do. However if you want us to leave you to it then that's absolutely fine! The NeighborhoodWe are proud to live in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the gorgeous Jurassic Coastline. We live in a safe, friendly neighbourhood with fantastic walks and views. The house is centrally located within the village, with your essential amenities on your doorstep. The SpaceFarm cottage offers: - an upstairs visitors' double bedroom with an en-suite shower and toilet, - a second bathroom (also upstairs), - a cosy living room with TV, music, video player and books for those old fashioned people (are there still any?), - a well equipped kitchen with an adjacent dining area, - a cloak room with a third toilet. Farm Cottage has wide opening views overlooking rolling countryside at the rear, and a decked balcony. A pretty walled pathway leads to a hidden garden with lawn, summerhouse, raised terrace, BBQ area and flowerbeds. Guest AccessThe guests will have access to the whole cottage, terrace and garden as well as the summer house. The attic room will not be available. Interaction with GuestsGuests will be able to enter by using keys left for them in the key safe outside the cottage. Unfortunately (or fortunately) we will not be able to meet guests on arrival because we are away. However, the housekeeper lives in the village and guests will have her phone number. The housekeeper will ensure that everything is in good order and that you are comfortably installed. We will leave some literature and information about local attractions at the cottage so you can choose whatever you will like doing. The NeighborhoodOnce a farm labourer’s home this spacious cottage is situated at the top of the village high street. Shops and pubs are within minutes walking distance from the house. The village shop is open until 9.00pm seven days a week and it has a cash machine, as does the Post Office. The sea shore is also within walking distance, some 600 yards down the hill. The Charmouth beach is part of the famous Jurassic Coast and is a fossil hunter's paradise. At low tide the beach is wide and sandy, excellent for sunbathing and swimming. The town of Lyme Regis is two miles away and visitors can walk there in 45 minutes, via the beach at low tide, or, over the top, by the Lyme Regis Golf Course. The market town of Bridport is 6 miles away driving East and Axminster (in Devon), 5 miles away driving West. Getting AroundHow to get there: From London: train from Waterloo Station to Axminster - 3 hours, then 20 minutes bus ride from Axminster Station to the front door. By car: M3, M27 past Southampton, A31 and A35 round Dorchester, towards Exeter - altogether 160 miles. The local buses 31 and X53 take you as far as Weymouth to the East and Exeter to the West. By car, both inland and coastal routes are of outstanding natural beauty. Other Things to NoteCharmouth is situated at equal distance bewteen two traditional Dorset market towns with historical industries: carpet weaving in Axminster and rope making for the tall sailing ships, in Bridport. Half an hour walk from Bridport, there lies the harbour town of West Bay, recently made famous by the television series Broadchurch. Other local attractions are the Lyme Regis Cobb built over 500 years ago, the iron age hill fort Maiden Castle near Dorchester, Fort Abbey house and garden, among many others.

The SpaceThe studio, a small stone barn (separate from, but alongside, our house) is surrounded by National Trust land and just 100 yards from the cliff and coast path. It is just one room, with separate en-suite shower room and loo, and measures about 18x15 feet. There's a comfortable double bed, sofa, table and chairs and galley kitchen with hob, oven and fridge. You can just about see the sea from the window, but step outside and you're free to walk footpaths in all directions through orchid-rich meadows, copses, along tiny streams and find a way down to the beach (about a half-hour walk to the beach). Access is on foot from the coast path or a mile or so down a long, rough track, quite overgrown from late spring onwards (unsuitable for cars that don't like to get muddy or be scratched by brambles, hawthorn, honeysuckle and toadflax). There's parking available immediately outside the shed, but this isn't a good place to come and go by car from regularly - better to use it as a base for walking, writing, painting or retreat. (We can also collect you from the bus in Charmouth or train in Axminster). The barn has wi-fi and a good supply of maps and books. We live across the yard and can help with most other things. If you're arriving on foot we can have food and basics ready for you. Guest AccessYou're welcome to use the main part of the garden and, if you're staying for a while, to use our washing machine. Interaction with GuestsWe always try to be here to welcome you but, once you're installed, we'll leave you alone. Apart from hearing our car come and go occasionally, you should find the studio very quiet. The NeighborhoodThe house is set in the middle of some of the most beautiful scenery in the southwest. Apart from our house across the yard, you can't see another house in any direction. Kestrels sometimes nest nearby, buzzards hang in the sky, owls may wake you at night, ravens drift past, deer and badgers are often seen and almost everyone says they've seen a whale, or at least a whale-shaped dark patch, out to sea. At night, with the house behind you, you get to see the Milky Way against a (for England) very black backdrop. At full moon, the silvery path across the sea in front of you is so inviting. Getting AroundThe X53 and No 31 buses go through Charmouth and there's a railway station about 6 miles away at Axminster, which is on the London-Exeter line. Please read the bit above about cars carefully. The track down to the house is rough and overgrown - though it's easily passable for any car, the last 10 minutes are slow and prickly. Other Things to NoteWe live simply, have an organic vegetable garden and try to tread lightly on the planet. We really welcome people with similar values, anyone escaping the city for a while, walkers of course, writers, artists or anyone looking for a space for inspiration or creativity.
