The SpaceOur guest studio was designed to cater to discerning friends and relatives visiting from around the world. Many of those won't do without advanced comforts, desk space, and telecommunication infrastructure while traveling ... so all this became part of the architect's brief ... and is now also available to you :-)
Thus, whether you travel for leisure or work, you will be happy to find all corners covered, rain or shine, winter or summer.
The studio is self-contained with its own formal entry, terrace and pool access. It features a kitchenette with a convection microwave, fridge/freezer, and dishwasher. There is no hot-plate and no conventional oven.
In the en-suite bathroom a high end washing machine and a dryer stand ready to keep your wardrobe presentable.
WiFi is is supplemented by wired LAN sockets. Ample desk space. (Fax, copiers and printers can be accessed in the main house home office, if needed.)
The studio features a TV for free-to-view NZ terrestrial DTV, and is connected to an Apple TV unit.
The studio is served by a climate control system to ensure comfortable temperatures year round. In addition, there are radiators and IR heaters installed.
Extended use of the pool terrace is made comfortable by an overhead infrared heater.
The pool features two counter-current jets for easy (stationary) swimming. Guest AccessThe studio is self-contained, with private pool terrace. The pool is accessible from the terrace.
Access to other parts of the house by arrangement only. Interaction with GuestsAt least one of us strives to be on site whenever guests are booked. You can easily reach us by in-house intercom, or by phone, or by ringing the ship's bell outside your studio's entry door.
Check-in and check-out times are flexible, limited only by your needs. We understand that you may require very early or very late check-out/check-ins, depending on your flight details.
Breakfast and dinner are included in our rates. Of course, before your arrival we will inquire about your dietary preferences, or food intolerance. Meal times can be adjusted to fit your requirements.
For evening meals you are invited to join us in the "tall room" of the house. We tend to serve delicious local fare in multiple courses, with matched premium NZ wines (included).
Should you prefer, meals can be served in the privacy of your studio. The NeighborhoodCharteris Bay is the "tropical" part of Christchurch: here, temperatures range about 7+ C higher than the official (airport) temperature - and still about 3+ C higher than Governors Bay. Veggies love this place, and some keep growing happily in winter.
Furthermore, unlike Governors Bay, we are pleasantly sheltered from the cold Easterly and Southerly winds :-)
Makes for great extended evenings out on the terrace ;-)
Charteris Bay is a small village, with the golf course and the walking [hiking] trailheads at Orton Bradley Park the biggest attraction.
About 5 kms towards the East (thus within walking distance from your studio), the "Preserved" Restaurant is a leading lunch and dining attraction: the best of home-made cured anything can be savoured here (hams and other meats, sausages). Highly recommended!
In Governors Bay (10km), the "She Chocolate" cafe/restaurant offers a different type of culinary experience: chocolate-based sweet indulgence, high teas, and even savouries ...
Even further afield (but easily reached on the passenger ferry from Diamond Harbour) is Lyttelton with a couple of NZ's best restaurants (Roots, Freeman's Dining) and a colourful Saturday AM farmer's market.
Enjoy! Getting AroundCharteris Bay is located about 40 mins drive from Christchurch, and no public transport to there is available. However, Uber has arrived in Christchurch in will deliver you from the airport for about NZ$ 70.
Another option is to take the passenger ferry from Lyttelton to Diamond Harbour, where we would be happy to pick you up (no charge). Lyttelton can easily be reached by bus.
My recommendation is to have your own transportation, be it a bike, or something more substantial.
The Lyttelton Harbour circuit is a favourite weekend tour of Christchurch bikers. Other Things to NoteThere is good 3G cellphone coverage for all three major NZ providers (Spark, Vodafone, 2degrees). Vodafone covers 4G, too.
