The SpaceGautam Lodge is a neat little house in a quiet little street close to the city center, but even closer to the beach. With two spacious rooms, clean sanitation, a nice living room and a little kitchen to make yourself a tea, the whole has a definite homely feel to it. On late afternoons the porch is a good place to sit and read, try to pick a mango from the overhanging tree, or play with the neighbor's puppies (be quick, those things grow fast!!). Interaction with GuestsWe stumbled across the Gautam Lodge when our Dutch colleague Marten traveled to Point Pedro to join the fishermen on a trip out to sea. On his way to the beach he passed the lodge, knocked and was greeted by the venerable Mr. Gautam himself… in Dutch. Turns out Mr. Gautam has been living in the Netherlands for decades and was on his yearly visit to his neighbor and sister Amma, your host. Amma (aunty) is a very gentle, hospitable woman who is quietly enjoying her pension with her husband, after a life of elementary school teaching. The NeighborhoodSoon after the Gautam Lodge, Sri Lanka stops, as Point Pedro is Sri Lanka's northernmost city and Gautam lodge is the northernmost accommodation in the city. A fifty meter stroll will bring you to the lively beachside, where fishermen and their families are busy mending their nets, cutting fish to dry in the sun, or just hang out, chew betel nut and chat. Three hundred meters to the East, you'll find a long, golden stretch of beach, while a hundred meters to the south you'll find yourself right in the city centre of Point Pedro. With peace having returned and new roads now connecting Point Pedro to the rest of the country, an atmosphere of positive change is palpable here, making Point Pedro well worth a visit.

The SpaceRev’s is a simple place in a quiet fishermen’s village along Sri Lanka’s northernmost coast. Next to a small Methodist Church and a local daycare center, it was rebuilt after the Tsunami and has three rooms all with attached bathrooms. For those who like to go fishing with the locals or just stare into the great wide open, all with the soundtrack of waves crashing on the beach. Interaction with GuestsReverend David Alagaraja is a middle aged priest who served all over the country, before landing in Point Pedro about a year ago. In taking care of guests he’s being helped by Mrs. Vallipillai. Though they don’t serve food here, guests are welcome to use the simple kitchen, which may come in handy with so much deliciously fresh seafood lying around... The NeighborhoodWe've always had a soft spot for the Jaffna Peninsula, because of all the places to visit in Sri Lanka, it's by far the most 'Neverbeen'. Even though conflicts have subsided and this northernmost region is truly unique, not many people go here. But you really (!) should, so we went ahead and found some great places for you to stay. When you're there, make sure to check out Jaffna town, especially during the Nallur Festival of course, but you'll kick yourself if you don't take a dive in the holy spring near Keerimalai, see the fishermen at work in Point Pedro or go on the most adventurous boat ride of your life... to Delft Island. Seriously, just go and you'll see a side of Sri Lanka that you'll never forget. Rev’s itself is located next to the beach, with the lighthouse at one kilometre away and Point Pedro town at two kilometres.
