The Spaceerenity Sands has a large 1 bedroom Casita available. It is approximately 15 feet by 12 feet with a full bathroom of 9 feet by 6 feet. The Casita is in a separate building from the owners unit and the entrance is via the courtyard. The courtyard area features a full covered outdoor kitchen with a 6 burner cook top/oven, refrigerator/freezer, toaster oven, microwave, coffee pot, dishes and utensils. There is a covered dining area under the Palapa for reading and relaxing. There is a large game room with a TV, bar and sink. We certainly enjoy it here and you will too! We are located about 2 kms outside the fishing village of Chelem (towards Chuburna) the beach is just a short 5 minute walk from the house. There are a number of restaurants in Chelem/Chuburna as well as small markets for necessities. The larger town of Progreso is only a 10 minute drive and they have large supermarkets, Mercado and Malecon. This is a port of call for several cruise lines, so there are shopping opportunities for everyone. The capital city of Merida is a short 35 minute drive. It is a stunning historical center of this state, with the cathedrals, colonial palaces and other landmarks that date back to the 16th century. And, of course, there is the Mayan culture that is so much a part of this region. We are fortunate to be near so many of the Mayan Ruins, such as Chitzen Itza and Uxmal (plus countless others). Depending on the time of year for your visit, the Pink Flamingo’s may be close by too (our favorites!) and there is fishing in the Ria. Fresh fish is the local dish available at most restaurants. A few other things about the house are that we have free WIFI internet, an internet TV in the outdoor dining area and a washer for clothing. We do have a dog and cat (both friendly) as such we do not allow guests to bring their pets. We can pick you up and/or drop you off at the Merida airport, for fee. Public transportation is available on the main road 1 minute away. We do live on site, so if there is anything that comes up during your visit, we are here to assist you!! Guest AccessGuests will have access to the entrance area, courtyard with large swimming pool and bath, laundry room, outdoor covered dining area, bar and sink along with internet TV, outdoor kitchen and palapa. Essentially all of the property except the owners building. Interaction with GuestsWe live on the property full time and are available 24 hours a day. The NeighborhoodWe are close to the beach (Gulf of Mexico) between the fishing villages of Chelem and Chuburna. While these are very small villages, they have a lot to offer for dinning and limited shopping and the people are very friendly. Progresso is a short drive away and Merida, the hisoric capital of the Yucatan is 35 minutes away. Merida has quality medical, dental services as many quality shopping malls. Getting AroundThere are local taxis and bus service is available on the main road just 1 minute walk from the property. Other Things to NoteWe have two bicycles available for your use during your stay.

The SpaceLocated in the town of Chelem, we have a space that feels like a real home (because we live here too!) Our home is classic beach style: tile floors, louvered windows, simple living from an earlier Mexico. We have set up our home so that you can enjoy being here with little hassle but have also added the conveniences that make a vacation fun (like a pool). Walking, we can get to the beach in about 30 seconds and it takes us less than 5 minutes to restock our needed food necessities (milk, cheese, drinks, snacks) at the local store (owned by a family who works and lives here also). If you are looking for a real, honest, simple experience in Mexico, surrounded by good people, you will find it here. We live among the locals, we are locals. This is our home and we love sharing the experience of Chelem and the Yucatan with our guests, who soon become our friends. Contact us with any of your questions- we will help, regardless if this is the perfect stay for you or not. Guest AccessYou will have access to your apartment, pool, pool area, and rooftop (please be cautious). Wireless internet included. Air conditioning requires an additional charge . Interaction with GuestsAs much as you want or need. We love getting to know our guests but if privacy and space are what you want, just let us know. Everyone is different and we get that. But do know, we are here to help or just hang out poolside with you. We love Mexico and we love sharing it with our guests. The NeighborhoodChelem is a quaint and sleepy beach town located less than 30 minutes north of Merida, the capital of the state of Yucatan, and about 5 miles east of the port town of Progreso, a major stopping point for Caribbean cruises. A popular vacation spot for Yucatan peninsula residents, especially Meridians, stucco beach houses ranging from basic to luxurious line the Gulf shore around Chelem for miles. The town has become in recent years a popular spot for expats primarily from the U.S. and Canada, many looking to retire in the relative safety and warmth of Chelem. There are several expat-owned restaurants in the Chelem and the nearby towns, which have become gathering spots – especially over the weekends- for the Gringo community. There are also plenty of locally-owned eating spots, ranging from back-patio kitchens serving seafood and tacos, to small restaurants with pizza, hamburgers and such. There are a couple small grocery stores with basic amenities and a small variety of fruits and vegetables (as well as fruit and vegetable stands). For larger scale shopping with plenty of variety for food and goods, there is a large Walmart-owned store in Progreso, as well as the San Francisco of Asis grocery store in the center of Progreso. Getting AroundThe drive to Progreso is about 15 minutes for those with cars; for anyone wishing to use public transport, passenger vans (“combis”) run frequently between the center of Chelem (a 5-minute walk from Rio y Mar) to the center of Progreso for 9 pesos each way, from 5:30 am to 8:30 pm. Other Things to NoteChelem, Yucatan, Mexico, is a delightful mix of Mexico and NOB. This is a real Mexican village that has opened up its arms to expats from around the world and "snow birds". You will find quiet, peaceful streets where children play outdoors safely and there are just as many motorized vehicles as bikes and walkers. The town stores offer all the necessities at a locals price. And when the pace gets a bit too slow, you can easily get on the main road and drive to neighboring Progreso or even Merida in less than hour. Across the street from your apartment is the town baseball diamond. This provides many opportunities to see daily life for townspeople. In all directions, there are plenty of streets to walk, meeting locals and expats alike. Parking is street side, and very safe. Numerous restaurants are located within walking distance that cater to both the tourist and the local residents. We refresh sheets weekly and towels every few days. Just let us know if something comes up. For long term stays, we can help you arrange for a local to clean should you desire (very reasonable prices and the opportunity to meet townspeople) or we can provide basic cleaning items (bucket, mop, broom, towels). We take care of all outside areas but keep your home private for you.

If you are looking for a real, Mexican beach vacation with nary a beach vendor, loud bar or complaining kid to be seen then this is the place for you. Affordable, fun beach house just outside of Chelem, Yucatan with 4 bedrooms all equipped with new mini-split a/c units, beautiful rooftop covered deck, gigantic covered beach front porch, 3 bathrooms, washing machine, nice Mexican-tile kitchen, great outdoor grill and plenty of room to relax. Everything you could want for a great beach vacation. 1/2 mile from the fishing village of Chelem with wonderful local restaurants and a small morning market this house lets you relax in relative solitude on a lovely stretch of generally quiet beach while still being within 15 minutes of Puerto Progreso, less than an hour from the colonial city of Merida, ruins of Dzibichaltun and Uxmal and countless Cenotes and Haciendas. Neighbors and villagers mostly speak Spanish so an adventurous spirit is a plus but even the most limited Spanish can get you by as everyone you meet is so friendly! House has 4 single beds, a futon, and a king and queen sized bed but most kids choose to sleep in hammocks for which there are ample hooks in every room. Outdoor shower is an extra bonus as you will undoubtedly be in and out of the ocean all day long. We have wireless internet included but our remote location sometimes means periodic outages. There is limited public transportation so you should plan on a rental car. Good sites for area information: www.yolisto.com - local chat site for expats. Take things with a grain of salt www.yucatanliving.com - very good tourist magazine www.yucatan.com.mx – my favorite newspaper in the Yucatan. Worth looking through daily as it will help your Spanish and understanding of what is going on in the broader community. For stays of more than two weeks you need to have the house cleaned every two weeks. Located on the sandy beach road this house Is surrounded by a wide range of vacation properties and year-round homes ranging from small casitas to large estates. Coconuts, bouginvilla and henniquin dominate the landscape while you are only 1/2 mile from the fishing village of Chelem with wonderful seafood restaurants and a morning market, just 15 minutes to Progreso, a major Yucatan Port city of 50,000 and less than an hour from colonial Merida with great restaurants, all the history you could wish and a Walmart and Costco to boot. This is a great place to vacation if you want an authentic Mexican beach vacation. Nearby you can: take Spanish, tour ruins, hire a fishing guide, bird watch, windsurf, take kitesurfing lessons, take cooking lessons, swim in Cenotes, visit historic haciendas, shop in historic Merida or just spend your day on the porch looking at the beautiful Gulf of Mexico.

Las Gaviotas is one of the most unique homes in the Chelem, Yucatan area. This 2 story home has 2 bedrooms, and 3 bathrooms and truly has it all! When you enter the front gate you see the lavishly landscaped yard, you walk into a huge screened in porch area that is perfect for entertaining large groups. Throughout the home there are Mexican arches and hand painted tiles. The kitchen has new custom hardwood cabinets and Mexican accents. The large oceanfront porch opens to a deck area with pool and a palapa (thatched roof) umbrella. This home has a massive seawall and sits high above the Gulf of Mexico. Upstairs you will find 2 large bedrooms and bathrooms, but the home has real surprise in that it offers a unique domed reading nook on the 3rd story. The ceiling in the dome was just hand painted by a local artist, it is truly beautiful, a perfect place to relax and gaze at the ocean views. The rooms are very large and spacious and you will have plenty of space to stretch out and just breathe and slow down for awhile. But best of all, this is our home with all of the comforts and personal touches of home, not a rental house that provides only the basic level of comfort. We want you to feel welcome from the minute you open the front door. Mi casa es su casa. All of the north of the border amenities are in place for beachfront enjoyment, there is high speed internet, air conditioning and a washer and dryer. The Yucatan is the safest state in Mexico, much safer than where most of us come from, however you must take the same security measures that you would in your own home. Doors and windows must be locked and secured at night and when you leave the house. Our home also has a roll down main gate for additional security and privacy. A safe is provided for passports and extra cash or valuables. This property has a generous electricity allowance. Any overages will be paid by the renter at check-out. If you are looking for nightlife and shopping, Chelem is not the place you are looking for. On week day mornings you will have the beach to yourself and you can stroll for miles collecting seashells or stop and watch the fishermen cast their nets from their brightly painted open boats. The beach is a little more lively on the weekends but it is a totally different beach scene then what you find on the Caribbean side of the Yucatan Peninsula. This is real Mexico and instead of row upon row of beach chairs lined up to rent for the day what you will find on the playa de Chelem are local families, picnicing and enjoying the warm shallow water, while vendors stroll the beach with boxes of pastries perched on their heads. On Sunday mornings grab a market basket and walk into the village to join the locals as they stop at their favorite stalls in the mercado or along the calle to buy conchinita pibil or ceviche. Although you have to take the usual precautions of locking doors when you leave and making sure that any valuables are stowed safely away, there is none of the danger here that is reported in the border towns hundreds of miles away. If you feel like leaving the peaceful solitude of our little village you can always take a short drive (6km) over the bridge to Progreso which has a bustling little downtown, especially on the days the cruise ships come in. Pull up a chair at one of our favorite beach bars to join our friendly band of expats as they watch the antics of the locals and the cruise ship passengers or stroll through the market where you will find everything from handmade hammocks to beautiful talavera pottery to the usual tourist souvenirs. There are also several marinas in Progreso which have fishing charters and boat rentals. Merida is the secret jewel of Mexico. It is a beautiful colonial city of about a million people that mixes the best of old world beauty and grace with modern convenience. There are countless museums and cathedrals to explore plus several sophisticated shopping centers and international cuisine. Every Saturday night the streets around El Centro in Merida are blocked off and the restaurants move their tables and chairs outside and musicians play on every corner. Children run laughing through the streets at midnight while their parents and grandparents dine leisurely in the cool evening air. No one is worried for their safety. The party continues every Sunday with a fiesta that includes music and dancing and numerous food vendors and artisans. We like to get up early on Sundays and drive into Progreso to catch the bus to Merida which drops us off right at the Plaza Grande where we can walk to mass at the oldest cathedral in the Americas. We spend the rest of the day strolling through the vendors and shops of El Centro, stopping to enjoy warm sugary churros or crispy panuchos and a cold beer or frosty marguerita before catching the bus home to spend a relaxing evening watching the stars come out as we walk along the beach. There are many Mayan Ruins and cenotes (blue holes) in the area to travel to for day trips. Chichen Itza is a 2.5 hr. drive or you can arrange tours through operators in Progreso or Merida. Campeche, another UNESCO World Heritage Site in also within driving distance and is really worth the trip to see their museum and amazing Mayan and Spanish relics. There is a large U.S. and Canandian community here. Our casa is located on the outskirts of town and most of the surrounding homes are second homes for residents of Merida who only visit them during Easter week and the months of July and August. We do have a handful of expat neighbors on our beachroad but for the most part you will have the beach to yourself. Our caretaker speaks fluent English and she will be able to assist you in any way you need.

The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need for extended stays including cookware, dishes, glassware, coffee maker, blender, crock pot, microwave, toaster, four burner stove with oven, baking dishes, etc. We live on the property and are happy to do our best to accommodate you, should there be anything else you might possibly need. Free internet is also included in the home. Of course, smoking is not allowed inside the building. It’s just a short stroll to the Gulf of Mexico for shelling or walking the beach. By car it’s only a few minutes to the fishing villages of Puerto Chelem and Puerto Chuburna. Merida, the “White City” is only 30 minutes away by car and one of the top five safest cities in the world. Spend a night on the town on Paseo de Montejo and take an evening ride on a horse drawn carriage. Don’t forget to visit the archaeological ruins of Chichen Itza or to swim in the magical Cenotes. The villages are filled with warm hearts and smiling faces as they welcome you to the Emerald Coast . . . this is the “Real Mexico”. We think that this is a “one in a million” vacation rental and are proud to say that this unit is for the most discriminating and well seasoned travelers. You will not be let down! Our home is classic beach style: tile floors, louvered windows, simple living from an earlier Mexico. Guest Access You will have access to your apartment, pool, pool area, and rooftop (please be cautious). Wireless internet included. Air conditioning requires an additional charge . Interaction with Guests As much as you want or need. We love getting to know our guests but if privacy and space are what you want, just let us know. Everyone is different and we get that. But do know, we are here to help or just hang out poolside with you. We love Mexico and we love sharing it with our guests. Other Things to Note Chelem, Yucatan, Mexico, is a delightful mix of Mexico and NOB. This is a family home (we have 2 kids). We understand and encourage guests to relax and make themselves comfortable with the understanding that they will be respectful of others. This would include limiting noises at night. Electricity is an expensive item in this part of Mexico. Conservation is asked of all guests, including turning off non-essential electrical appliances. Due to this, the use of air conditioning ( NOT needed in the winter or spring ) requires an additional, separate charge. It is available only in the bedroom and we ask that doors and windows are closed at all times when in use and that it be limited to sleeping times. We have provided a pool to seek relief from the heat of the day should it be needed. We follow all these practices ourselves and we are quiet comfortable here. Smoking should be outside, away from other guests. Mexico is a different country but please still be respectful of current attitudes regarding smoking. Ask us about your pet please. We have a dog (as most people in Mexico do), but please let us know ahead of time and talk with us to determine if this is the right space for your animal friend. The apartment has one bedroom with one bed in it. There are hammock hooks everywhere, we believe enough to have 7 hammocks! This is the Yucatan. So, what does this mean? Mexican tourists do often bring their own bed and so can you. Just let us know how many people. We still need to keep the property safe and secure, but each apartment can accommodate more than two people (Yucatan style of course).

For long term stays, we can help you arrange for a local to clean should you desire (very reasonable prices and the opportunity to meet townspeople) or we can provide basic cleaning items (bucket, mop, broom, towels). We take care of all outside areas but keep your home private for you.
