The SpaceThe Schierman's have owned this farmstead for nearly 100 years. In the last 50 years, it has been transformed from a farm to a sustainable wildlife park by owner Tom Schierman and sons, James and Jon. This summer it will open to guests and private events. The farm is being developed into an exclusive rustic retreat and private campground for group stay, camping, workshops, photography tours, private parties, weddings, reunions, and recreation both on the grounds and around the Palouse. Guest AccessEach group of guests will have exclusive use of Schierman Sanctuary. Only one group will be scheduled at a time. Guests currently have access to entire landscape, campfire pits, game courts, amphitheater, and limited access to buildings for restrooms, showers, clothes washing/drying, and BBQ access. Tents can be placed in secluded areas around property for maximum privacy. Soon, buildings will be opened up for guest use as soon as they are remodeled. We can provide some tents, firewood, night lighting, garbage cans and recreation amenities for additional charge. Interaction with GuestsWe like to give the guests a full preliminary tour of the property, which will take between 30 minutes and 1 hour, unless the guests are in a hurry when they arrive. We will provide services such as firewood deliver, limited private bus tours, or transportation during your stay. We can also provide breakfast, afternoon snacks and beverages, and dinner with herbs and vegetables grown here, and local foods and beverages from the Palouse. The NeighborhoodIt's pretty quiet and peaceful. Sure it's in farm country, so it not the forest, but we like it because it is so unique. Photographers and travel writers have coined the term 'Tuscany of America' for the Palouse. There are so many mysterious lakes, ghost towns, fishing streams and rivers, county and state parks, abandoned railroad trails, soft rolling hills and rocky scablands within a few minutes reach. Schierman Sanctuary is centrally located between several Eastern Washington college towns and major cities. There are numerous small events in the area and always something to do on the Palouse. St. John hosts sprint boat races two time per year. A local group of hangliders and paragliders have access to several buttes and great places to fly around the region. Getting AroundIt is an hour drive to Schierman Sanctuary from either the Spokane International Airport or the Pullman Regional Airport. We can provide transportation to and from airports, bus or train terminals and around the area for additional cost. Bikes, canoes, kayaks and other gear can be rented from the local colleges or the Sanctuary has a limited selection to choose from. Other Things to NoteWe will soon be able to host tours, overnight guests, weddings and other private events with camping and campfire for up to 300 guests. We will also be able to host public events like concerts for up to 1000 guests. Upcoming development plans: -Remodeling the warehouse and barn for events, workshops, and gathering. -Remodel the carriage house and bunkhouse for guest stay. -Remodel the studio loft for guest stay and studio residency -Provide tiny cabins and bunkhouses for retreats and guest stay. -Provide sustainable year-round vegetable and herb greenhouse for guest meals, which may also include local and farm-raised chickens, eggs, mushrooms, meat, and fish. -Provide large permanent restroom and spa area with multiple toilets, indoor and outdoor showers, large baths, hot tub, and lap pool. -Construct covered indoor/outdoor kitchen with pizza and bread oven, smoker, sink, icebox, bar seating, and large grill.

Our home is on a premier location at Williams Lake. The home offers 110 feet of lakefront and includes a dock for you to moor a boat and jet skis. With Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge just minutes away you will always have wildlife to enjoy. The lake itself is like a human refuge from the craziness of city life, yet in just a few heart beats civilization is there for you if the need arises. Even on weekends you never feel like you arrived at the zoo, and on week days it’s extremely peaceful. The lake is perfect for the weekend warrior and/or the person who prefers to relax and enjoy the rugged natural beauty. Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway or the ultimate family vacation, this is it! The property includes; hot tub, fire pit, and many more amenities. Top Rated Fishing Lake. Bicycling is real popular also in the area. There are two resorts that offer great restaurants and weekend entertainment starting the opening day of fishing season (last weekend in April) through the rest of summer. Williams Lake is truly an oasis for everyone. We provide all the linens, towels, paper towels, T.P. and the kitchen is fully stocked. Gas for the grille is provided also. Wifi, Satellite, and phone (local calls) included. Bottom-line this is a turnkey destination home. The house is an open floor plan. We do have two bedrooms. Master Bedroom can have combined twin beds to make a king, or kept as two separate beds. Before you arrive please inform us of your preference. The upstairs bedroom has 4 twin beds, one separate and the other three beds are a bunk with a trendel. The other beds provided are two queen hide-away beds and a queen size futon. If someone would like to pitch a tent outside that’s fine, just make us aware so we shut off the irrigation sprinklers. We are entering into our 4th year in offering our home to rent. Every year we continue to have more and more return guest. Many guests will be returning for their 4th or 5th time. Every year we reinvest back into the property trying to make everyone's stay better than the last time. Wild Life: As mention, Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge is nearby. The Refuge is open year round from dawn until dusk and has many walking and biking paths to enjoy nature at it's best. But frankly you don't have to go there to enjoy God's creatures. From the property you will enjoy Osprey's, turkey vultures, geese, swans, cranes, hawks, mallard ducks, humming birds and even the occasional Bald Eagle or during the winter Golden Eagles. That's just naming a few of the 200 plus feathery friends you'll likely see. Deer, elk, and moose can be commonly seen. There is an abundance of other creatures but typically they are only heard not seen (coyotes). Go to the Turnbull Wildlife Website to find more info. Weather: Four full distinguished seasons. Summer - Spokane means 'Children of the Sun' in the local native language. Unlike Western Washington this part of the state is warm and dry during the summer. Because the area is surrounded by the mountains you can generally count on good weather during the summer months. Day time temperature highs from Mid June to Mid September generally are between 80-90 degrees. Ocassionally we may have a few weeks where we are pushing 100 degrees, but it’s a dry heat so even then it’s still bearable. Low’s during the summer drop to around 60 degrees (Perfect for night time swimming or pitching a tent and sleeping outside). Lake temperature during the summer hovers between 70 -82 degrees. Fall – Most locals will tell you we love this time of year. September and October it rarely rains and the day time temperatures still hover between 70-80 degrees. The overnight lows are less predictable but early fall the temperatures range in the 50’s. By October you will start to see the changing of the colors and the best sunsets start to happen this time year. September is especially a great month, lake is still warm, fishing season is still open and kids are in school. So the lake is extremely peaceful and the wild life starts to be more abundant. Winter – We will receive our share of snow and the lake will generally be frozen by the 1st of the year. The ice on the lake in January and February will be thick enough for ice-skating and even for snow-mobiles. The roads are well maintained, and snow plows will keep on top of it so access to town isn’t a chore. Spring – By mid-March the ice is gone on the lake. This time of year the weather is the most unpredictable. March through May you might get summer like conditions but most often this is our wet season. Temperatures range between 50-70 degrees. Once you get to the month of May though you will generally get pockets of warm weather where you’ll see 80 degrees, but very unpredictable. Water Craft Recreation: Small to mid size boats up to 22ft are the ideal size for this lake. If you have a raft, canoe, kayak, row boat, small sail boat, modest fishing boat or the tricked out luxury ski boat you'll find this lake will give you hours and hours of enjoyment. We do provide a paddle boat for your pleasure. And our neighbors rent their kayaks or canoe for a modest fee. And both resorts have fishing boats with small motors for rent. This lake offers fantastic water recreation. Williams Lake is annually rated one of the best trout fishing lakes in the region, even if you don't have a boat we have caught our limits off our dock more often than not. Please note that neither resort on Williams Lake offers gasoline for your boat. We do offer several 5 gallon gas cans for your use, and when I'm able I will go to town to fill them up to save you the trip. Public access to launch your boat is open from dawn to dusk (Need Discovery Pass) or you can pay a small fee at the local resorts for their launching facilities. Just a side note water planes due occasionally land on the lake, so if you like to bring yours it is an option. Columbia Plateau Bike Trail: The Columbia Plateau Trail runs 130 miles between Cheney, Washington, and Pasco, Washington, on an abandoned rail bed. Parts of this trail are near by and can be connected to on many of the roads in the area. Our Pet Policy: Pets are family!!! We do charge a fee for fluffy and we do ask if your breed sheds more than average to please help with picking up hair or fur. Obviously needs to be house trained and listens to your commands. Yard by lake is enclosed, but if they are a water lover they will have free access to lake so be mindful of that. Restaurants: There are two fabulous restaurants at each end of the lake. 'The Bistro' is within walking distance of the property. Xanny's is a five minute drive or boat ride away. Both are apart of their respective resorts The Bistro ( Klink's Williams Lake Resort) and Xanny's (Bunker's). Each provide their own specialties. Customers are known to drive for many miles to indulge in these establishments. Check their web-sites for further details. Cheney (15 Minutes): Cheney is home of Eastern Washington University and is a small town which provides a variety of amenities. Grocery stores, bars, and terrific eateries. During the second weekend of July, Cheney host one the largest Rodeo's in the region that brings tons of cowboys and cowgirls from all over. Yee Haw!!! Spokane (35 Minutes): Spokane was the home of the 1974 World's Fair. This world class city is the Gem of the Inland Northwest. If a night on the town is desired your needs can be fulfilled. Riverfront Park is considered one of the most family friendly environments in the United States. The Spokane Falls, during the spring, are a must and can be enjoyed from the bridges or from the Gondolas directly above or from several fine dining restaurants. Within a short drive from Spokane, 33 golf courses, 11 wineries, five ski resorts, five major national parks, the Columbia River gorge, and the Grand Coulee Dam. Spokane is home to annual events and attractions that draw people from the surrounding area. Every year in May, Spokane hosts the Lilac Festival, which features many events including the Armed Forces Torchlight Parade held the third Sunday of May. The Lilac Bloomsday Run, held on the first Sunday of each May, is a 7.46-mile (12.01 km) race competitive runners, as well as walkers, that typically draws about 45,000 participants. Hoopfest is held the last weekend in June, and has a variety of participants, from kids, teens, and adults to former college and NBA players, in their respective brackets. Family: Our family has been coming and/or living at/to Williams Lake for over forty years, and just over twenty years ago our parents built this Chalet style home for their retirement. It is our desire to share our parents home with you to enjoy and build memories of your own at Williams Lake. It's our sincerest hope to provide the best possible experience for you; whether you are looking for a family vacation, romantic getaway, small reunion place for friends and family, or just a place to escape.
