The SpaceThe place has a big room with an attached private bathroom, traditional kitchen and a view of the rolling hills of Mawsynram. A short walk through the winding roads in the village will lead you to the village "station" which has most of the basic things like eateries, tea stalls, medical store and transport both public and private , Mawsynram village is a traditional community and is a good base for adventure seekers and those seeking a village experience. Sankrita, my cousin and her mother look after the property. they will be your host.They cook well and can whip up a traditional cuisine.Let them know well before hand so they can cook for you.They also know the village well and can take you on guided tours . They will help you with your travels plans and arrangement of transport within Mawsynram..But always let them know before hand.However a seperate payment is made for the lunch and dinner that you order.ask San for the menu and the price.The tour guides usually charge Rs 300 per day and taxis to take you places have their own rates.Discuss with San and feel comfortable to ask her any questions. This is life in a village :D Guest AccessThe room is upstairs and has a common entrance .The kitchen is downstairs and there is a cooking space in the backyard where all dishes are being cooked. The double bed is big and the room is bright with a balcony . You are free to use the kitchen any time. Interaction with GuestsSankrita is available to help you with any thing you may require .She will arrange your lunch and dinner for a price as listed on her menu of traditional dishes or ordinary dishes.She will help arrange transport and a local guide and they will be paid for seperately The NeighborhoodThe house is located half a kilometre from the main road and in the heart of Mawsynram village. A motorable road from the village main "station" leads to my locality. The entry to the house is a village footpath of about five minutes walk . You will be passing through the neighbours houses and you may ask anyone for directions . Getting AroundThe village "station" as they call it is just a short walk away from my place, but taxis can take you there . The "station" is the centre of activity in the village. The local weekly 'haats' or markets are organised around the station area. Here you can find local eateries and provision stores .Taxis and four wheel vehicles are available for hire/rental for sightseeing and ferrying you to different places . The caves, the open spaces,the rolling hills, the waterfalls, the walk up the river, the wildife you may spot , the local cuisine, natural swimming pools, hot water springs, the border with Bangladesh ,local haats, are all yours to explore...
