When we first witnessed the mountain views at “Graybuck Lodge” we knew we had found something truly special. Now that our house renovations are complete, we are ready to share the warmth of our home and the majesty of our mountains with you. “Graybuck Lodge' is centrally located in Bat Cave less than ten minutes from Chimney Rock Village and the recreational beach at Lake Lure and it is just slightly farther to Hendersonville, Black Mountain and Asheville. The rest of the western North Carolina vacation wonderland is an easy day trip away. At more than 3,000 feet in elevation, “Graybuck Lodge” sits on the exposed granite of Shumont Mountain on the western rim of the gorge formed by tributaries of the Broad River. The 280-degree mountain views extend for over fifty miles from Hendersonville at one end to Mount Mitchell on the other. During the fall, the expanse of mountain colors is phenomenal and the higher elevation means the summers are cool and clear with crisp mornings even in August. The house itself is a lovely three story rustic cedar Chalet which sits on a secure granite foundation. You enter the house into a warm pine accented Great Room and a full “tongue and grove” pine cathedral ceiling will greet you as you snuggle up in front of the stone fireplace. The big screen TV, sound system and DVD player will keep you entertained on the rare days you might want to stay inside. Across from the great room you will find the dining area. Two tables seat up to twelve people without crowding anyone. You will find wineglasses and essentials in the antique bar in the corner of the room. The full kitchen is adjacent to the dining area. You will find it complete with microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator and a combination gas and electric range with double ovens. It even has a separate beverage refrigerator and a huge pantry. The main floor master bedroom provides a king-sized bed and walk-in closet that give you plenty of room to spread out and the completely refurbished bathroom will give you the privacy you desire. Downstairs you will find the second master bedroom with king-sized bed and a 180-degree view of the mountains. You access the recreation area through the master bedroom. Here you will find a second big screen TV and stone fireplace. The recreation area also contains high-end game table. The second downstairs queen-size bedroom is the most secluded and quietest room in the house and should probably be reserved for the “sleeper” in your group. The downstairs shares the largest bathroom in the house. The washer and dryer. Upstairs is the “Sweetheart’s Loft”. Its lucky occupants will find it is paneled in warm pine and secluded from the rest of the house with a queen-sized bed and its own private bath. They won’t feel closed in because the glass window-wall opens the room to the mountain views without exposing its occupants to the rest of the vacationers. Fully isolated from the lower house with a glass window-wall, the loft will allow those couples who desire some “privacy” a personal spot to which they can retire and be assured that they will not be disturbed. The front deck is where you and your companions will enjoy your early morning coffee and your late night glass of wine. From the deck you have an unobstructed 280-degree view of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Your vantage point is located in the treetops about a 1,000 feet over the floor of the gorge. To the left, you look 25 miles to see Hendersonville on the horizon and to the right, at about the same distance, you see Clingman’s Dome and Mt. Mitchell. As you sit and enjoy the atmosphere, the goldfinches and hummingbirds will visit the feeders and entertain you all day. THIS IS WHY YOU CAME TO THE MOUNTAINS! We are proud of our home and the relaxing atmosphere you will find when you visit western North Carolina. and we have chosen to use our entire photo allowance to show you as many pictures of “Graybuck Lodge” as possible. Unfortunately that means that we have chosen not to show you any pictures of the many local attractions. With your rental you will receive a complete package related to handling We take pride in giving you the information you need, so we ate available by phone 24/7 if you have a problem. Other Things to NotePlaces to visit while you are in the area: Lake Lure is a well-known destination for thousands of visitors each year from around this country, Canada, and abroad. The Town of Lake Lure is a beautiful place to visit and a wonderful place to live; it is the home of over 1,050 permanent residents. Located in western North Carolina, the town sits in the heart of Hickory Nut Gorge, east of Asheville. The Rocky Broad River winds its way through a series of rapids down through Hickory Nut Gorge, and the crystal clear water flows through the valley that feeds Lake Lure. The Town of Lake Lure encompasses 13.25 square miles including the lake with a large central body of deep water, three long bays, an island of seven acres and many small bays and inlets with a background of forest clad hills and mountains. The climate is unusually temperate as Lake Lure lies in the “thermal belt” of the western North Carolina mountains and foothills. The lake is the number one attraction and the reason so many families visit Lake Lure year after year. National Geographic has called Lake Lure one of the most beautiful man-made lakes in the world. Visitors come to enjoy the 720 acres of lake, sparkling clean beach area, and the incredible Blue Ridge mountain range including Chimney Rock. History records that the idea of a resort community in western North Carolina was the vision of Dr. Lucius B. Morse. Soliciting the financial backing of his brothers, Dr. Morse purchased 400 acres around Chimney Rock in 1902 to create Chimney Rock Park. Additional acreage was acquired over the next several years to bring the total to 8,000 acres. Dr. Morse conceived the idea of building a dam on the Rocky Broad River to create a lake and a year-round resort. The dam was completed in September 1926, forming the lake which was named Lake Lure by Dr. Morse’s wife, Elizabeth Parkenson. The Town of Lake Lure was incorporated in 1927. The Town of Lake Lure is a great location for sports including swimming, golfing, hiking or serious rock climbing. You can enjoy a wide variety of water activities, ranging from canoeing and fishing to pleasure boating and water skiing. Both motor and non-motorized boats enjoy the lake; however, a lake permit is required to place a private boat on the lake. Grandfather Mountain Be inspired by views from the Mile High Swinging Bridge, laugh at bear cubs and otters in natural habitats, and escape into a globally recognized nature preserve with 12 miles of the South's best alpine hiking trails.
