The SpaceThis is a cute artist's cottage with all the basic comforts you need to feed your soul. From the West Indian double doors opening up from the kitchen and bedroom onto the screened verandah is a dramatic southwestern Caribbean sea and sky from an elevation of 750 feet. As the palms and leaves sway and the tree frogs sing at night, you'll drift off in the hammock with the scent of the fragrant Ylang Ylang blossoms in they yard. Help yourself to oatmeal, crackers, hummus spread or a raw nut spreads. Brew up a pot of real lemongrass tea - freshly picked from the yard. You can also use our soursop leaves as a tonic tea to help you sleep. They say it helps to target and kill cancer cells too! Help yourself to organic Arabica coffee grounds, roasted grain beverage, various teas, water and juice. Built in 2001, the cottage has a small "great room w kitchen," queen bedroom, bathroom, screened verandah, washer and dryer and a lovingly maintained yard of soursop, grapes, grape leaf, Ylang ylang, bougainvillea, neem, banana, palms and coconut trees. There is a loft air twin mattress in the rear "lavender" room. (This small back room is locked off with my personal things as on Jan. 2015. You may find that despite all the fun places to go, when you get home, you may just want to enjoy being at the cottage. Cook some pasta, make a salad and enjoy a glass of wine or tea on the veranda. There is wireless internet. The best part of Nevis Rainforest Mountain cottage is getting back to nature. Open the shutters on gorgeous days and the screens (if kept shut) will keep you bug free. Neighbors are close but the gardens afford you a pretty private space. The only creatures that may pay you a visit are a troupe of green vervet monkeys. And, you are only 10 minutes from Pinney's Beach using the bypass, or 20 minutes to Oualie Beach. At night, I shut the shutters and lock up for a cozy night's sleep. You'll be lulled by the tree frogs and the wind in the palms. Everyone falls in love with the view, the temperature (rain or shine) and the visiting monkeys ~ and being in and communing with nature. It rains up here more than any place on island. So if its raining, it just may be sunny at the beach! Guest AccessHome and gardens. Feel free to walk around the gardens. You can walk in the neighborhood. (My neighbor keeps 2 large watch dogs tied in their back yard adjacent to our drive. They will welcome you loudly until you get past the gate. Expect to be met by stray goats, horses, cows, or pets. Be careful about walking in the grass with bare feet. Nevis has fire ants with a healthy appetite. We are always trying to persuade them away from our yard. Also, to prevent any accidents, please refrain from walking on the tiny home under construction behind the cottage. Remember we are on a mountain slope so shoes that afford you good footing are recommended when walking off the property. Busses: Once at the cottage, you can walk down the road to the main island road where busses run weekdays both west and east and are very affordable, about EC$3 - 5. They are erratic on weekends. Almost nonexistent on Sundays! Interaction with GuestsThis is a largely self-serve cottage. Upon request we can suggest a car for hire, recommendations for a massage therapist, a local cook and cleaner and tour guide. When I am on island I am readily accessible to chat with, always accessible by text, "(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)," or email. And Marvin is usually available to help. (He is off island Dec 10-16.) The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood has a mix of expats and local residents. We are 5 to 10 minutes drive from 4 neighborhood restaurants and bars, 1) The Hermitage, 2) Bananas 3) Oasis Restaurant at the Botanical Gardens and 4) Indigo at Montpelier Inn. About 12 minutes due east around the island main road is Golden Rock Inn, and another ten minutes past Golden Rock, up the eastern coast is Nisbet Plantation Beach Club. That covers the nearby and destinations to the east. Ask around about local eateries. We have many little local snackettes and restaurants which serve chicken, rice, goat water and local fish. Getting AroundNOTE. Local busses are much more affordable than are taxis. Coming from St. Kitts airport, hail a cab (About $10US) to the Basseterre ferries to Nevis. (The ferry is about EC$25 or $8 US) plus $1 EC tax. Once in Charlestown, Nevis, at the pier, you'll look for a taxi (stand is at the end of the dock). If we are available, Marvin or I will arrange to pick you up. If you fly to Nevis, there is a taxi stand there as well. You'll tell them you want a ride to Brown Pasture village. (St. John's Parish) Another address is Banyan Tree (pronounced Bye-Yon) and Morning Star Estates. Do you know where Mary Byron used to live? Just turn up the road beside her house and drive up the hill and its the 4th yellow cottage on the left, in the rear, down the lane. Lavender shutters. You will need a motorbike, or car, or strong legs. The bus stop is a five minute hike to the island main road. If you're renting a car, ask your taxi driver to take you to M&M Car Rental in Camps or to Thrifty Car Rental, closer to town. Busses: Without a car: Once at the cottage you can walk down the road to the main island road where busses run weekdays both west and east and are very affordable, about EC$2 - 4. They are erratic on weekends. Almost nonexistent on Sundays! Other Things to NoteEden Life Centre is a natural health care destination in the neighborhood. Chrishi Beach is one of my favorite places to lunch, dine, or spend time on their expansive beach. Oualie too. Check out more photos on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Take the island main road to Charlestown - just on this side of town are the Bath Hot Springs. The hot sulphur soak is well worth the trip.

Rose Villa was built in 2006 as a celebration of traditional Caribbean architecture and craftsmanship but with modern scale and conveniences. It was built in true West Indian style, using single frame construction, exposed beaming and mortise and tenon joinery. A delight to behold inside, it is equally delightful outside, situated in tranquil gardens which take advantage of serene views of the Caribbean Sea from many porches, while mountain breezes refresh. Four large bedrooms, all with large, en-suite baths, and featuring four-poster beds provide ample sleeping space. There are two indoor sitting rooms and two large outdoor spaces and a gourmet kitchen. The furnishings are comfortable and romantic. An in ground pool provides refreshment beneath the mountain's peak, yet you are only ten minutes drive from the nearest beach on either the Windward or Caribbean side and a two-minute stroll from The Hermitage Plantation, where you can enjoy the restaurant facilities, bar ambiance and tennis court. Located above the charming Hermitage Plantation Inn, nestled in the hills of the solitary volcanic cone that is Mount Nevis on the island of Nevis, is Rose Villa, a spacious and beautifully appointed family home. The house is set in a tasteful, serene, spacious community of only a handful of homes. The surrounding landscape is pastoral land and stunning views to the focal point of your view: the vibrant Caribbean Sea in front and the majestic mountain behind.

Chez Wilson is one of the few heritage homes on Nevis, lovingly updated to modern standards by its current international owners. Nestled within two tropical acres replete with mature palms, lush plantings and fruit trees, and built around a secluded atrium, this spacious residence offers peace and serenity but is still within easy distance of both golden Pinney’s beach and the amenities of the Four Seasons resort. At the front of the villa is a large deck which wraps around a 66 ft long infinity pool with views across the Caribbean to St Kitts. This is the perfect spot for admiring emerald hummingbirds and banana quits with your morning coffee or taking in the sunset with something stronger as evening approaches. The well-furnished veranda has retractable awnings, making it ideal for dining, and inside there is a tropical central atrium – the coolest place to be in the late afternoon as you listen to water bubbling in the old copper sugar-pot fountain discretely hidden in the bushes. The overall accommodation comprises a master bedroom with en suite, enclosed balcony and sun deck on the upper floor, plus three other bedrooms, all with en suite bath on the first floor together with a large living room, dining room for eight and a fully-equipped kitchen. “If there is an island that speaks of old-time Caribbean graciousness, it is Nevis, partly for its gentle nature, and partly for its traditional elegance with lovely wooden villas in gingerbread and planation style - all wood, open windows and verandas, the best in tropical indoor/outdoor living.” The UK Daily Telegraph, Luxury Travel feature, 1st February 2014. This is what we want you to experience at Chez Wilson. Chez Wilson is discretely hidden behind a stone wall on two sprawling acres of palm trees, lush plantings and fruit trees in Upper Jessups on the Western side of Nevis. Laze around the 65 foot infinity pool, sip a Ting or Rum Punch on the verandah, catch glimpses of monkeys at play in the rear gardens, soak in the stunning views across to St. Kitts or Nevis Peak, view magical sunsets from the upstairs sundeck.…all in the peace and serenity of your own private hideaway. The property is lovingly maintained by the owners and offers maximum possibilities for open-air living. A perfect spot to relax, unwind and forget all those cares and woes.

Nevis is a 36 square mile gem, the Queen of the Caribees. The Nevis Peak volcano rose from the sea floor about one million years ago. The earliest human settlement dates back to 2,000 BC. Europeans first set foot on Nevis in 1493, when Columbus stopped on Nevis during his second voyage to the New World. Columbus named the island St. Martin as it was first sighted on St. Martin's Day. Later the island became known as Nieves ('snows'), named after Santa Maria de las Nieves, or Our Lady of the Snows, but also because the clouds that often hover around the top of Nevis Peak resemble snow from a distance. Our house has everything: great views, lovely breezes, privacy, large rooms, comfortable furnishings, TV & Internet, full kitchen, a great pool, not far from beaches and restaurants. It is a lovely place to relax and have fun. We are in Gingerland, about 180 degrees around the island road from the airport. The house is on the hillside above the old Zetland Plantation, one-third of the way up Mt Nevis (also called Nevis Peak) at nearly 1100 feet. When we drive home from the beach, we marvel at the temperature change as we approach the higher elevation of Gingerland and Zetland Breeze. The evenings are cool, no air conditioning required. The view from the front porch is directly South, with the Atlantic and Montserrat to the left and the Caribbean to the right. In the center is the saddleback (Saddle Hill) of the southern end of Nevis, the pastures of Montpelier Plantation on the right and indian Castle on Windward Beach to the left. We built the house in 1992, probably one of the larger houses on Nevis at the time. We spend a lot of time out on the front terrace, which always has perfect breezes coming from the East....the famous trade winds. We often have breakfast on the terrace; cocktail parties always start there, spilling into the Great Room. Much of the main floor is hand-cut native volcanic rock. The house has four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms. There is a fully equipped kitchen and laundry room. On the main floor are the large entry hall, a half bath, kitchen, laundry room, dining room, large living room, a large, covered front terrace, and the master bedroom suite with a king bed. On the second floor are two bedrooms (each with two twin beds) and a full bathroom. On the lower ground floor, there is a fourth bedroom with two twin beds and its own full bathroom; this bedroom has its own outside entrance below the main steps of the front door of the house. (Because this room may miss the breezes at night, it is now air conditioned, just in case.) Behind the house are a private walled-in swimming pool and a covered outdoor dining area. (The small jacuzzi pool has a cover for safety.) For a nice dinner venue, we dine at the long white table up the two steps to the pool level outside the kitchen window overlooking the pool. Under a star-filled sky, perhaps with some nice music playing, this is quite pleasant. There is a gas barbecue just outside the kitchen door. Home entertainment The large pine cabinet in the living room houses the TV (with cable service including CNN and ESPN) and audio-visual equipment, including CD and DVD players. (There is a second TV in the master bedroom cabinet.) Speakers are in the Great Room and out at the pool. We have a growing collection of CDs and DVDs. Games. There are puzzles, cribbage boards, playing cards in the drawer at the bottom of the liquor cabinet in the entrance hall. Massage. Our little gray leather phone book lists many sources of massage on Nevis. The Four Seasons has a complete spa, of course. Internet access. We have high speed DSL, with WIFI through much of the house. Beaches and restaurants Pinney's Beach on the Caribbean is a 15 minute drive away. Many beach restaurants and bars thrive there, as does the world famous Four Seasons Hotel & Resort, where there is a beautiful and challenging golf course. Three of the loveliest plantation inns on Nevis are each less than 10 minutes away from Zetland Breeze: Hermitage Hotel, Montpelier Plantation, and Golden Rock. Their restaurants are wonderful, each one unique. (We have a 'handout' for renters with hints and tips about all of our favorite places on Nevis.) The house was built for airy island relaxation, and we love it. You will, too. Zetland Breeze sits on 2 acres among other homes owned by Americans, Canadians, British, and Nevisians. No two homes are alike, each built at different times to different tastes. Our hillside is distinctly Nevisian, with beautiful vegetation, mango and bougainvillea, and lots of monkeys moving through the garden on their own schedule. Our pool is quite private, suitable for skinny-dipping. On power walks, we have gone as far as Montpelier and the Nevis Botanical Garden to the southwest and Golden Rock to the east. Hermitage is just down the road. A rental car agency is nearby, and they are happy to bring a car up to the house. Local taxi drivers are happy to take you around, if you don't car to drive. Beaches are 10-15 minutes away. While there are no traffic lights on Nevis, there is now a traffic circle, which is negotiated in the English way (right hand drive).

Serendipity means the knack of making wonderful discoveries by sheer chance, and that’s how you have found this lovely little gem of a house on the prettiest little jewel of all the Caribbean islands, Nevis, 40 miles west of Antigua and 50 miles south of St Bart’s. When you arrive in Nevis you will be met at the airport or harbour by our friendly agent, who will take you up to the house, show you around, give you a 21-page leaflet we have prepared about the best beaches, restaurants, supermarkets and sports facilities, provide a starter pack of food and drink of your own choice, and be available to advise, help and solve any problems you may have throughout your stay. ‘Serendipity’ nestles amid palms and mango trees in a quiet spot 400ft up the jungly side of Mount Nevis, yet it is only a five-minute drive from the longest and best beach on the island, ten minutes from the quaint 18th Century capital village, Charlestown, and just fifteen minutes from the sleepy little airport, where scheduled airlines fly in daily from Puerto Rico, Antigua and St Maarten. There are also regular direct flights to the nearby island of St Kitts from the US, Canada and England. The house sleeps up to four people and has two bedrooms, a bathroom, shower room, spacious living room, immaculately fitted and fully equipped modern kitchen, study, laundry room, and a wide, protected verandah beside a 30ft x 15ft swimming pool with a glorious view across the colourful garden and two miles of sparkling Caribbean Sea towards the sunset and St Kitts. Newly built and tastefully furnished in a simple Caribbean style, ‘Serendipity’ has air conditioning in both bedrooms and the study, multi-channel cable TV sets in the living room and main bedroom, a DVD player, broadband, big ice-making fridge/freezer, large gas cooker, microwave oven, dishwasher, coffee machine, juicer and toaster. It is in fact so idyllic and comfortable that its British owners, Juliet and Graham, a painter and an author, spend several months there every winter and have to tear themselves away every summer to return to the real world. These rates include weekly maid service, pool cleaning and garden maintenance. Weekly rental rates include all utilities except long-distance telephone calls. Nevis is a dreamy, miniature paradise island, just six miles long by six miles wide, with a balmy climate, cool breezes, calm seas, lovely beaches, colourful forests, mountain walks, elegant old plantation houses, smart hotels and restaurants, relaxed beach bars and bistros, an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones golf course, picturesque villages, and the nicest, friendliest people you could ever hope to meet – people who wave and smile as you drive by. In Nevis each golden day is like a time-warp back to the 1950s where people are polite and respectful and crime is rare. There are no flashy nightclubs, vulgar casinos, or rowdy tourists – just a quiet, relaxed, stylish. old-fashioned little haven that still deserves its 18th Century nickname, ‘The Queen of the Caribbees’.

The area is great for walking as exercise, depending on your pace one hour can have you in town and back. Other Things to NoteCane Garden is an area which was a part of a large sugar plantation. The plantation owners sold and gave away these lands when the sugar industry was no longer viable on Nevis. The bulk of the estate is now owned by one family.
