The SpaceYour room has a lovely bed with luxuriously soft sheets and an ecologically friendly, locally made mattress. A chair, desk, and worklight are provided for those who might need to get a little work done. You'll also find a full-length mirror, lots of closet space with hangers, and ample blankets and pillows in your room. Forced air gas heat keeps you warm in the cold months, and in the summertime we place a fan in the room to help keep you comfortable.
Your room is one of two furnished bedrooms available for rent, and it shares the bathroom with the other bedroom. We also use the other room as a guest bedroom when friends or family come to visit. So essentially, the bathroom is shared 99% of the time.
Our 1947 home sits on a sloped lot and its large windows and French doors offer expansive views past the massive mature trees on our property, all the way to the trees on the other side of the Willamette River! We spend a lot of time at home and really love to nest, so expect to find comfy chairs and couches, warm lighting, and a mellow welcoming atmosphere. We are both artists, and the décor of the house both inspires us and represents our creative pursuits.
IMPORTANT: We both have home studios and are often actively creating in the home.
About check in: We are pretty flexible on this and are okay if you want to drop off stuff early. However, if you want to come in early, you may have to hang out in the living room and give us some extra time to make the room ready. We’re fine with that and so is our cat Bella, who will likely take the opportunity to solicit some pets from you. Check out times are pretty solid, however; we need time to prepare for our next guests. Guest AccessYou are welcome to use the kitchen while you stay with us. We are largely vegan at home (friends bring over non-vegan stuff and we don't judge), and our kitchen is well-stocked with everything you could possibly need to cook a lovely meal. We can also recommend some great restaurants if you'd prefer to dine out.
We are very chill and welcome everyone (LGBT+ friendly). We want you to be as comfortable as possible, so please feel at home and make use of the living and dining area, kitchen, and washer/dryer, as well as our outdoor dining area and deck, hammock, swing, and barbecue when weather permits. Interaction with GuestsWe’d love to visit with you and hear about your adventures if you’re in the mood, but we understand the need for downtime and reflection while traveling, and will give you space. Basically, if we’re in a common area and you’re in a talking mood we’d love to swap stories, but otherwise it will be as if you have the place to yourself.
We provide tea, coffee, fruit, and homemade muesli or oatmeal with a choice of vegan milks for your breakfasting pleasure. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is called Oak Grove and we love it because of the tree lined streets and easy river access. We’re close enough to downtown to still feel like we're a part of things, yet just far enough out that we can relax and breathe a little easier. Our home is tucked into its own wooded lot that makes you feel like you're in a treehouse, yet within three minutes of driving you can be at any number of restaurants or stores, and another five minutes will get you to one of the many parks along the river. Getting AroundDriving:
When traffic is moving well we are about 20 minutes from downtown Portland by car.
There's a bus stop right across the street from our house, and the bus will take you to a transit hub where you can hop on the light rail and zip downtown. However, please note that the bus stops running fairly early in the evening! If you'd like to check schedules, head over to Trimet's website.
If you'd like to use Lyft to get around but haven't used it before, just ask and we can send you an invitation to sign up that will get you a discount on your first ride!
We are a short distance from the Trolley Trail, a bike and pedestrian path that will take you all the way to Oregon City to the east, or west into Sellwood to connect to the Springwater Corridor and on to downtown or all the way out to the country if you want a big adventure.
Venturing out of the city
If you are using mass transit/Lyft but interested in visiting one of the amazing natural areas outside of Portland such as Multnomah Falls or Mt. Hood, we might be able to drive you. Just ask and we’ll see what our schedule allows. We love showing people all that our little corner of the Pacific Northwest has to offer! Other Things to NoteWe want to help you look back on your Portland stay as one of your best trips ever. Want to go to a show? Rent a bike and head out on a ride? Shop for out-of-the-ordinary souvenirs? Get a tattoo? Find a farmer’s market? Check out a circus/aerialist/burlesque act? Sit in a park and read a book? Go for a hike? Eat some of the best food of your life? We can point you in any direction you want, and if you’re in the mood for company and we have the time, we might even join you.
Other Tidbits of Info:
1) Hairdryer, towels, shampoo, soap, and all the other little necessities that you might have forgotten: we have it all here for you.
2) Tea and coffee: We drink both, and are happy to share.
3) If you’re around and we’re around, we’re probably going to try to feed you.
4) We keep our home very clean, and we wash all linens and clean the bathroom between every guest's stay because that's what we would want if we were guests.
5) We have a very sweet older cat named Bella who will be happy to love all up on you if you let her, or she will leave you alone if you keep the door to your room closed. We wash and store our linens away from her reach, and we keep the guest bedroom door closed after we’ve fixed up your room so she won't get fur on your bed. Nevertheless, if you have allergies this house is probably not for you.
6) We burn incense in the house on a regular basis. If you have environmental sensitivities that preclude enjoyment in such olfactory treats, you will need to look elsewhere.
7) If you have any special concerns or requests, click the "Contact Host" button above the pictures of our home, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
