The SpaceWelcome to my home in Clareville which sits high among the blue-gum tree canopy home to many birds, including colourful parrots. The rustic glamour of this architect designed retreat is unique and includes a lush indoor garden which incorporates the natural environment into the interior.
Your spacious studio style apartment is located on the ground floor and accessed via a pathway down the side of the house that leads directly into your studio.
The studio style apartment area, although part of the house, is quite private, with a beautiful semi opaque wall with sliding panels. This allows the light, yet maintains your privacy. Open the panels to include the internal garden and view into the layers of the house, or draw them closed and pull the blinds to protect your seclusion.
The studio comprises of a private bedroom, bathroom, generously stocked kitchenette and open plan living room with optional privacy screens. Wide glass windows look out through the trees to the water with filtered views of Pittwater waterways, Kuringai National Park and Scotland Island. The furniture oozes comfort and there is a gas fireplace to warm you on colder days. There is also a private deck. Time passes gently at tlc Sanctuary – relaxing by the pool, lazing by the fire or simply gazing at the view. It is a luxurious space, one I have taken the utmost care to fill with all the home comforts.
A delicious breakfast hamper is included in the cost of your stay, but if you wish to explore, there are many cafes close by in Avalon or Palm Beach.
We encourage a minimum 2 night stay. Single nights are available but do incur a $65 cleaning fee.
The kitchenette contains: a small fridge, microwave, Expressi coffee machine, selection of teas, a toaster, kettle, blender and sandwich maker. The only cooking facilities are the BBQ and microwave, an electric frypan and electric skillet, (there is no oven). There is a washing machine hidden behind the cupboard doors (cold water wash only).
The bedroom contains: a queen size bed, freshly ironed linen, soft fluffy bathrobes, built-in wardrobe, a television with cable TV and a DVD player. It opens onto a lovely private deck with a comfortable sofa overlooking the pool and spa (not heated). If you like to eat outdoors there is a BBQ and table and chairs where you can enjoy a meal and the view.
The sitting room contains: ultra-comfortable furnishings, overstuffed sofa and armchairs, an impressive gas fireplace, small table and chairs and a writing desk.
Your bathroom is modern and contains a bath to relax in. There is a separate toilet.
If summer is magic here at the beach, winter is sublime. The crowds have gone and the beaches are yours. There is whale watching, the weather is cool enough for long walks and the ocean temperatures are often still warm enough to swim in ( usually till May). The area is the perfect Australian bush/beach experience.
We encourage a minimum 2 night stay. Single nights are available but attract a cleaning fee of $65. This fee will be removed from stays over one night at time of booking.
I run a small business from a separate studio on the property, and live on the upper levels of the house. The pool and pool deck are shared areas. Guest AccessAccess is via a boardwalk pathway with a slope and steps (there is a photo so you can check is suitable for you) down the side of the house. The pathway follows the side of the house and opens to your private deck overlooking the pool with access into the main bedroom or your kitchenette. Your key will open both. You have a separate entry. When the weather is inclement you are always welcome to access through the main house.
You have shared access to to pool and pool deck. Interaction with GuestsThere is a little interaction as you come and go. We are sharing the same house, just different areas. I feel that is the BnB experience. Due to the design of the space though we can interact as little or as much suits you.
Your studio is screened and private from the rest of the house, just slide the panels open to reveal the internal garden and look into the house. Or for total privacy draw the screens and pull the blinds and immerse yourself in your own sanctuary space.
The shared areas are the pool & pool deck. The front paths and gate entry to the property.
I'm happy to help you plan your day, share some local knowledge and answer any questions about the local area. Just knock on the kitchen door or send a quick text. The NeighborhoodThis is an area of unsurpassed natural beauty. Clareville is on the Pittwater side of the peninsula. It is a calm area with many coves and inlets perfect for easy swimming and picnicking. Avalon surf beach is five minutes by car, and Paradise Beach is 15 minutes walk away.
Whale Beach and Palm Beach – better known as Summer Bay for Home and Away fans – are also a short drive away. Nearby Avalon village is one of the northern beaches' special places, with a village feel, incredibly friendly locals and an eclectic collection of shops, cafes and restaurants, artisan galleries and a charming movie theatre. There is plenty to do: local yoga classes at Palm Beach or Avalon, stand-up paddle boarding, a ferry trip to Ettalong or the Basin, or a seaplane ride to the eastern suburbs of the city. I can also provide in-house Reiki treatments or meditation classes or provide numbers for massage and beauty treatments. Alternatively, you can simply stay by the pool or the fire, relax and take a break from everyday life and indulge in time for yourself. Getting AroundAvalon Beach and Village shops are a 25 minute stroll away, Clareville Beach is a 20 minute stroll. There is a bus stop 5 minutes walk down the hill, with a bus running hourly to Avalon village. The bus doesn't run at night. From Avalon buses go to the city and Palm Beach. The area lends itself to walking as we are surrounded by waterways and changing views.
Parking for one car is available on site. Other parking is available on the main street down the hill. Other Things to NoteWe are on the western slopes of Avalon facing towards the waterways of Pittwater. Although a little away from the shops and the surf beach (5mins by car), it is the perfect place to retire in the afternoons after a busy day of exploring, watching the sun set or going for a short stroll to Clareville Beach or Paradise Beach to enjoy a glass and brilliant sunset.
If you're off to a wedding or dinner be aware taxis in this area are not always reliable. Pre booking and asking for confirmation is essential. Many of the cafes and venues have a drop off option so just check first. The Avalon RSL also has a bus drop off service for patrons. So maybe the perfect place for a nightcap. There are also private hire car with driver services available, expensive but reliable to ensure a wonderful night out.
