The SpaceThe Blue Heron Guest House is a renovated workshop built at the turn of the twentieth century when Arizona’s copper boom was still in its heyday. The owners of the main house on the property maintained the workshop’s rustic exterior while fully renovating the interior to provide a charming, cozy hideaway in historic Clarkdale, Arizona, nestled in the Verde Valley between Jerome and the red rocks of Sedona. The Blue Heron is a studio cottage, approximately 300 sq. ft., with a queen bed, futon, private bathroom and shower, and a kitchenette. It comfortably sleeps two adults and can accomodate a small child as well.

The SpaceThe room has an amazing view with a peaceful feel that will leave you with an Awwww for open spaces, and wonder of the night sky. 1 Queen bed + 1 Queen futton on floor For a family of 2 with 2 children can be arranged . Must check with host if booking with more then 2 people . Shared bathroom Near kitchen If you have concerns about sharing the bathroom we offer a private room and private bath listing for an additional charge. And it is helpful to read reviews. Guest AccessGuests have access to kitchen and living room. Also amazing porch to enjoy views Interaction with GuestsGuest should be independent. I am a full time teacher and very busy. Although, evenings are a good time to have a chat, and enjoy moon gazing out on the deck. Julia and Carlton Ann are available by text and phone for guests during their visit for details of how to enjoy the surrounding area. The NeighborhoodThis place is right in the middle of Jerome and old town cottonwood. Both with amazing restaurants and shops. Clarkdale is a real historical landmark surrounded by beauty and wonder. Right off the verde river, lot to see and explore. Getting AroundCar rental is necessary for this location. It is remote but close to Historic Downtown. Dark skies are wonderful for star gazing but the house is located in an area that has low light . Other Things to NoteThe house is right on the river, which is very beautiful, but there are a lot of bugs. This is a good place for someone who likes nature and a natural environment. I like to keep the doors open and get the fresh air in the house. Which means I don't have the ac running all the time. But the rooms have central ac, and it can get cool at night The room has 1 Queen Bed 1 Queen Futton on the floor. Ask host for details to make sure this is going to be comfortable for you. If you have large luggage , it is best to leave in car and carry in an overnight bag into room. We supply towels. Please see reviews !!

The SpaceOur home is one of the first built in the first master-planned community in the US, a company town built by William Clark to house his white collar workers from the nearby mining operation of Jerome (whose copper veins were extracted for American industry from the 1860s to the 1950s). A classic bungalow, it sits in a quiet neighborhood just a walk away from the historic town park, nature trails, and public transit to nearby Cottonwood & Sedona. We have three free-range chickens who roam the yard daily and provide at least an omelette a day. We have also installed a greywater system to augment the dry high desert conditions of our front yard, and so have a strict organic soap & detergent policy (we ask that you only use our plant-based soaps). Our home could be considered shabby-chic, in that we've retained many of the original elements of the house — hard wood floors, claw foot tub, cast-iron sink, and dripping glass double-hung windows — yet embellished with our own colorful sense of decor & art. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire house — kitchen, bathroom, living room, dining room, two bedrooms, a back room & laundry — as well as the front & backyard. Interaction with GuestsFor the most part, we'll meet you when you get here, and pass off the keys & house rules. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is treelined, with ample walkways and great views, and neighbors to the east and north have each won Beautification Awards for their gardens & yard adornments. We are two blocks away from Clarkdale's Historic Downtown, boasting the beautiful Town Park, Verde River Expeditions, Su Casa Mexican Restaurant, Main Street Cafe, the 1012 Lounge, and the new Four-Eight Wineworks featuring delicious Arizona wines. About a mile away are the banks of the Verde River, a haven for birdwatchers & river rafters, Tuzigoot National Monument, and the Verde Canyon Railroad. Getting AroundWe are a block away from the Cottonwood Area Transit bus line, which connects to Sedona via the Verde LYNX. AZ Shuttle connects Cottonwood to Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, and an Enterprise Rentacar is close by as well.

The SpaceThe Clarkdale Lodge is an historic building that was built in 1914 and originally used as a boarding house for unmarried employees of the local copper smelter. It was subsequently converted into apartments which we are now modernizing to a high standard while preserving historic details where possible. All apartments are tastefully furnished and have HDTV's in both sitting and bedrooms. High speed Internet access is provided throughout via WiFi, and kitchens are fully equipped and ready to use. The deck you see in the photos is a large shared area accessed from the upstairs hall. It has gorgeous views and makes a perfect place to sit and have a glass of wine in the early evenings. There is a shaded patio area underneath it on the ground floor for when the weather is too warm to sit in the sun. Guest AccessIn addition to the apartment you are staying in, all guests have access to a public sitting area upstairs stocked with books and games, and a second story open deck overlooking the Verde Valley. Interaction with GuestsI'm nearly always working around the place, most usually on the garden. If I'm not on site, I'm seldom far away. Clarkdale is a small place and I live within eyesight of the lodge. The NeighborhoodClarkdale is a lovely small town, with 2 good restaurants (Mexican, and American), 2 neighborhood bars, a wonderful bakery/cafe, 2 museums, a wine tasting room, and a charming small Town Park, just across the street from the Lodge. The local Verde Canyon Railroad is not to be missed, if you'd enjoy a scenic and relaxing afternoon outing into some great back country. Clarkdale is a great town for walking, too, with sweet and inviting little neighborhoods to explore. Other Things to NotePlease note that this particular apartment features an original clawfoot tub, with an overhead shower kit. It may not be the best option for anyone with balance issues, due to its original design. Feel free to request a different unit if this is the case.
