The SpaceFirst Off....reasons you might NOT like staying here: To ALL our Guest! You people have been just too kind for all the good reviews! Yet, nothing's perfect (for example: currently, Pecan tree is heavy laden with pecans and can make a racket on windy nights). Other considerations are: we have old cool, but noisy brick streets. And on concert nights....just the opposite of 'regular' nights when I often bed down by 8:30pm....on concert 300 to 2,500 people are in the courtyard till at least 10:30...and sometimes the party continues throughout the building till the wee hours....(you can check concert (EMAIL HIDDEN) Also...though not directly below the MicroLoft, there IS a fitness center and coffee shop on the first floor, front side of the building (though the hours from 10pm to 6am are 'quiet time'. Also, please note we have wifi, but there is currently no TV in the room (bought one, afraid to put it up, afraid I'd sit in there ALL the time—had to get rid of TV 20 years ago). That's all I can think of....now on to:
REASONS YOU MAY LIKE STAYING HERE.....
A 450 square foot apartment with kitchenette and private full bathroom .
The Loft is located on the second floor of the historic Whitten Building (a 1924 brick building with original heartwood pine floors, metal ceilings with—the world's only ?—bar in a working elevator!) enjoy balcony access (via French-length window) and a view overlooking music and activities at Grandview's FireFly Stage & Plaza areas. Italian, Mexican, American dining all within walking distance. If you are looking for a unique blend of Old World Charm, mixed w technology, and small town Texas life....this is it! (We call the architectural style: Gothic Western. Or is it Western Gothic. My architect and I really cannot decide.)
Full bathroom, kitchenette (with stove, sink, and small fridge. (please note the kitchenette has the appliances listed but the pantries are NOT fully stocked with all the regular stuff you find in a lived in (URL HIDDEN) more like the Residence Inn type kitchenette, though we and gracious guests are slowly building the cooking empirelette utensil arsenal). Genuine Tempur-pedic Queen size bed. Resident's staying two nights or more will receive a free full pass to on site 3,000 foot 24 hour fitness center.
Another element important to some people: the building used to house a funeral home and is supposedly haunted! If that's your thing...you'll LOVE this place (you can hear many stories at the local cafe or looked up on the web....). We (current owners Bart & Linda Clark) don't tend to see things that way....but for an excellent well-balance alternative view check out the article on our place at: (URL HIDDEN)
Any more questions....just contact us! Guest AccessNO PETS of any kind. We have many existing Furry Residents for your visitation pleasure....
Guests staying two nights receive access to Grandview Fitness, an on site 24/hr gym. Interaction with GuestsDepends.... Lots of variables here? Mainly...what are we / you feeling like on a given evening? Most people we check em in and really don't see them again? Other times guests will join us on the balcony for a glass of wine and a few dozen rounds of Corgi-Run fetch with Bree. Or on movie nights, in the RedRoom for a 100" cinematic film . Other influences.... Is there a concert? Is it a festival weekend? How's the weather? Do you want The Haunting Stay....or the mundane uneventful stay? On non-concert nights...I'm often asleep by 8:30pm...but sometimes we stay up LATE and hang out on the balcony. And on it goes....but the crucial influence is the King: what does everyone feel like?
We started this airbnb thing as an experiment....mostly cause it's just fun to meet new people and it's ashamed to have such a cool little place and have NO ONE ever experience it. We don't lease it often, nor generally for more than 3 nights, as it is a part of our home (though with separate entry). The 'hassle' of doing this is NOT offset by the financial payback (though our daughter appreciates it as she gets the net as a kind of payback for having to grow up in an 8'X9' room in our old farm house—(she only got to spend a couple months in the MicroLoft before leaving for grad school). We've continuud to do this for two real reasons: the Airbnb system and people make it really easy ...and our guest have been universally just neat, kind, fun people! The NeighborhoodOur building is at the very center of a typical small Texas town with only one traffic light. Your room is on the quieter plaza side of the building and you can see the police station and city hall directly across the street.
However, saying we are a 'typical' small Texas town misses the point. Remember the old TV series Twin Peaks? When you get right down to it, nothing's ever really typical no matter where you go if you're really paying attention. Getting AroundThe only public transportation is if someone stops and gives you a lift. Other Things to NoteNote: currently there is NO sizeable table in the room for working or eating on (most guest eat out on balcony where there is a sizeable coffee table ). A small moveable beside table...just big enough for a laptop is in the room....regarding a bigger one, just making the slow decision on space vs. use (fold up suggestion may be what we go with? So let us know after you stay which, what, size...ideas are...slowly....listened to and implemented! Slowly. :)
The Haunting Stay: if you choose this....please send us a message in the official airbnb system so we all have a record of you 'asking for it'...What is the only difference?: it will remind us to have the antique child's rocking chair moved back into the room—sometimes, especially if we are out of town, we forget to get this done).
