The SpaceEnjoy a Beachside vacation Rental on South Whidbey Island at Maxwelton Beach. Relax to the lapping tide and view the sunsets over Admiralty Inlet and the Olympic Mountain Range. Watch as the ships pass through the shipping lanes of Puget Sound... As featured in the Seattle Times: "COZY COTTAGE FOR YOUR ISLAND GETAWAY" The driftwood was strewn about like Tinker Toys and the sandy beach had washed ashore a myriad of shells and treasures. I'd sipped coffee at my beachside cabin while watching the sun glint off the Olympics. Now, on one of the coldest, grayest, wettest mornings of the year for the rest of the NW, here I was walking along a cloudless, sun-filled stretch of tideland known as Maxwelton Beach, watching a stranger chase his yellow Lab in and out of the surf as if it were mid-September. It seemed a world away from Seattle - yet close enough I could be back, if I wanted, in time for lunch. For Seattle-area residents looking for a winter weekend getaway they can reach without actually going far, it's hard to top Sunset Beach Cottage. Tucked inside the rain shadow of the Olympics, Whidbey Island can seem like a veritable desert oasis in winter, noticeably warmer and brighter, even, than towns just 20 miles away. Welcome to Sunset Beach Cottage in Maxwelton: Located near the island's southern tip, it promised sunset views of the Olympic Mountains and a private beach. And the owners were accommodating, promising to leave the key on the kitchen table and allowing me to check in at 7 am. While I'd learned over the years to do my homework and keep expectations low, Sunset Beach Cottage was a pleasant surprise. The rooms were carpeted and wood paneled, with a 1950's feel. The online pictures were a good representation - which isn't always the case. There were mountain views form the kitchen and the bedroom, and the beach was 10 feet from the door. The owners had left a long note suggesting everything from restaurants to a nearby golf course that charged $10 for nine holes. The closet was stocked with rubber boots for shell collecting and clam digging and slippers for the evenings. (Craig Welch, Seattle Times) Guest AccessAny season is a wonderful time to escape to Sunset Beach Cottage with its quiet surroundings, miles of private beach to explore, a bird sanctuary outside your door and its unimpeded views of bay and mountains. Here is a place you can relax, have outdoor adventures, create food, soak in a big hot bath, just curl up and watch the eagles and great blue heron interacting on the beach. The cabin has custom knotty pine, wood wall covering and carpeted floors original art and a decadent Tempurpedic king size bed master suite. The space is ideal for two, but an additional couple can be accommodated on a queen size sofa bed in the living area. And two more can sleep in the 2nd tiny bedroom with a twin and a trundle. Wi-fi, DVD player, NetFlix instant play and cable (website hidden): Full kitchen with the original 1949 kitchenette and trash burner and all the usual amenities. Patio: There is a barbecue for the patio with padded chairs and fire pit, beachside, 10 feet from the sand. Sunset Beach Cottage is a beach comber's, artist's, clam digger's, writer's, wind surfer's, kayaker's, cyclist's, bird watcher's paradise. Or, simply unwind with a good book and a cup of tea. Spend your next vacation in a beautiful waterfront house, located right on a sandy, no bank Puget Sound beach. With a spacious master bedroom suite, second bedroom and bath, large living room, full kitchen, sitting room and dining room, this is comfortable place for romance, relaxation and play. Enjoy 180-degree views of Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountains. Sit on the deck (or sitting room in winter) for hours watching the constant marine show of ferries, boats, ships and wildlife. Speaking of wildlife, careful observers may see eagles, herons, harbor seals, sea lions and gray whales (seasonal), all of which are common, and much more. Walk on the beach, build a fire at sunset in the fire pit beside the water, dig clams, go crabbing (seasonal), fishing and boating. Enjoy the many restaurants and shops in Langley, 9 minutes away. This is a perfect romantic getaway for just the two of you. Bring the kids and make it a family event. Rent it with friends. It’s a great place to chat, enjoy the view, sip a little wine and generally relax. Summer, fall, winter and spring, this is a great place to be. The large deck, with table, umbrella in the summer and gas BBQ is a great place to relax. In addition to the beach, Puget Sound and everything happening on it, the view of the Cascade Mountains extends from Mt. Baker in the north to Mt. Rainier in the south, including Glacier Peak, Mt. Pilchuck, Three Fingers and Whitehorse. Watching the sun set on these mountains is fantastic. We have a telephone for local calls and connecting to the Internet. Unlike most locations on Whidbey, we have excellent cell phone coverage so you can stay in touch. Our beach is sandy, with a few pebbles. Because the tides commonly cover a 12 foot elevation range, the appearance of the beach varies throughout the day. At the edge of our lawn is a 2 foot bulkhead down to the beach, with a small boat ramp on one side. Except in a few extreme days of winter, the water doesn’t get within 20 feet of the bulkhead. After about 30 feet of relatively level sand (and some logs) the beach drops down to a second nearly flat level that extends out about 150 feet at the lowest tides. Another 200 feet and the water is 20 to 30 feet deep. Half a mile out, the water is 600 feet deep. This is a very nice beach, not a mud flat as can be found in other locations on Whidbey. Clam digging starts with a tide of about –1.0 feet and gets better with lower tides. The boat ramp is useful for car top boats, canoes and kayaks. For larger boats, there are several public boat ramps within a few minutes drive. You can walk from the ferry to our house in 5 minutes. This is a real convenience for day visitors during your stay as well as one person commuting to a Seattle area job. All taxes and fees are included in the rate. No other fees! Enjoy Beachside vacation Rental on South Whidbey Island at Maxwelton Beach. (Craig Welch, Seattle Times) Policies: Saturdays require a two night minimum except in July and August which have a 5 night minimum. Pets are $25 per pet per night. Pets are the same as an extra person so you can add them as extra people to get a correct quote. July and August can allow for stays under 5 nights if you book right up next to another booking -- for instance, other guest is checking out at 11 am and you check in at 4 the same day OR you are checking out and another guest is checking in the same day. This vacation rental is RIGHT ON THE BEACH! A wonderful time of year to be here on the island; the beach with its spectacular views will be beckoning you outside from your doorstep. Walk out at low tide, look for sand dollars and seashells- the solitude broken only by the cry of Blue Heron and our local Eagles. Our low tides can go 1/4 mile out and yet the sand is very firm for beach combing. There are rubber boots in the outdoor closet for guests to use, but you may wish to bring your own foul weather gear for your comfort. Enjoy Sunset Beach Cottage on South Whidbey Island at Maxwelton Beach. Relax to the lapping tides and view the sunsets over Admiralty Inlet and the Olympic Mountain Range. Watch as the ships pass throughout the shipping lanes only to be outdone by the abundant wild bird life: Eagles, Great Blue Heron, Osprey and many others swooping in. Any season is a wonderful time to escape to Sunset Beach Cottage with its quiet surroundings, miles of private beach to explore, a bird sanctuary outside your door and its unimpeded views of bay and mountains. Here is a place you can relax, have outdoor adventures, create food, soak in a big hot bathtub, just curl up and watch the beach life outside in your back yard. Close to the seaside village of Langley with its abundant art galleries, movie theater and live theater. The accommodations are in a beautifully remodeled two-bedroom guest cottage, with a master bedroom with a tempurpedic king-size bed, a couch that makes out in to a queen bed and a small bedroom with a twin and a trundle. If you or anyone you know will be visiting this season, please keep in mind this relaxed and comfortable Cottage we have here. Once you are settled in, the nightly sunset views of Admiralty Inlet, the Olympic Mountain Range, and the shipping lanes of Puget Sound from the living room/kitchen or the master bedroom, are nothing less than spectacular. You or your guests can spend time enjoying the natural beauty around you, walking, bird watching, biking, boating and more. If you are so inclined, you can take advantage of the sophisticated and exciting artistic life of Whidbey Island. Langley, home of the renowned Whidbey Island Center for the Arts, the Clyde Movie Theater, and several regionally known restaurants, shops and galleries is a 10-minute drive away. Golf at Island Greens is just around the corner and only ~ $9 or $10 per person. Please contact us at 7358 Maxwelton Rd * Clinton, WA 98236

If you want fantastic sunsets, rest, relaxation, and the restorative call of the Salish Sea, come to Frank and Pat's Place, right on Puget Sound at the old 1905 resort of Maxwelton Beach. This is a true Pan-Abode log cabin, each log is notched into the next without using nails – a unique getaway made of old growth yellow cedar without a trace of drywall to be found. The walls carry the patina of much laughter, storytelling, shared meals and wicked board games played into the dark of night. There are 3 bedrooms (2 queens, 1 full) with special properties that induce the kind of sleep that only a beach front cabin can provide. The bathroom with shower stall completes your beach comfort. Remember, as a cabin built in 1959 with its 60 year old custom built kitchen picnic table and benches, Frank and Pat's Place has very casual beachy and rustic ambiance and finish. If that’s for you, you’ve come to the right place! The gathering spot of Frank and Pat's Place is the open great room concept of the living room with the free standing wood stove, adjoining kitchen and eating area, with spectacular beach scape and Olympic Mountain views from all windows. After a good beach walk, if a nap is not in order … perhaps a friendly game of croquet on the expansive lawn. Or a relaxing soak in the five-person spa. Located on the back patio, you’ll enjoy the same water, mountain and sunset views as you watch the eagles fly by. Help yourself to fresh ingredients from our culinary herb garden! Guest AccessHot Tub, Beach, Ocean, Very well equipped kitchen The NeighborhoodClassic Northwest beach community. Miles of walkable beaches north and south. Getting AroundWe're about 15 minutes from the Clinton ferry terminal and about 15 minutes from Langley.

The NeighborhoodThe south end of Whidbey Island is accessible by ferry from the South or driving down the island from the North. Because of this it is quiet and serene with little traffic, deer and rabbits wandering peacefully and a few quaint little towns with cafes, antique shops and many art studios and galleries. Getting AroundBring your own car or get a taxi from the ferry. The nearest public transport is several miles away. Other Things to NoteThe ferry to and from the south end of the island leaves from Mukilteo every half hour throughout the day and late into the night. At 9pm it switches to hourly until the last ferry at 1am. Go to the WA state ferry website for times and ticket prices for the Mukilteo - Clinton route. We have a rescued cat. Someone left her behind which is really beyond our comprehension as she is really sweet. She is an outdoor cat and rarely comes in the house (FYI for those of you with pet allergies). We also have a few chickens across the road.
