The SpaceA separate cottage , The Little House is a large studio (450 sq ft) with a kitchen, bathroom, queen bed and a sitting/dining area with a flat screen TV set up for movies and Apple TV (no cable). The cottage is close to our house but mutual privacy is important to us so you should feel completely on your own.
Of course we have wireless Internet. A bottle of wine, coffee and light snacks await.
The Little House is right for a couple, two friends (or one person) who love to read, dine, sit on the deck, rock in the hammock, watch movies and drink wine. Ideal for the traveler serious about wine tasting, dining and relaxing (or for the more active -- biking and hiking). We are on a hill, just outside of town. Cloverdale is a modest town 5 minutes from the Alexander Valley, 10 from Geyserville, 10 from Dry Creek , about 18-20 minutes to Healdsburg and the Russian River Valley and 30 to the Anderson Valley,
Our Little House is fully equipped, comfortable and everything you might want – but homey and slightly eccentric. No granite counter tops here. We aren't the Four Seasons or the Ritz, but we spent many years of cozy weekends in The Little House and hope you will too.
The kitchen has a 2 burner stove, microwave, toaster, blender, roaster oven, pots and pans and utensils.
It isn't fancy but very serene. It is a bit removed from it all, but walking distance to town (down a fairly steep hill) and a short drive to what we consider the best of wine country.
Although you will have a private deck, feel free to enjoy our huge deck under a 150 year old oak tree overlooking the town of Cloverdale and the Alexander Valley. Use the barbecues. The hot tub is new, has awesome jets and always hot. It is on our larger deck (not your private one) but only about 20 steps from the Little House.
Cloverdale is the northernmost town in Sonoma County and one of the few that retains its “pre-wine” roots. Definitely not the chic of Healdsburg but authentically Sonoma County, friendly and usually quiet. The restaurants are varied and traditional but fun. Suggestions are in the Little House.
Healdsburg shops and restaurants are an 18 minute drive by freeway or 20-30 through the Alexander Valley vineyards. Ask us about our favorite restaurants, bars and shops in Healdsburg and wineries in all the Valleys.
Geyserville, with Diavolo (a great modern Italian restaurant) and Catellis (more traditional but Todd and Susan's go-to spot for dinners in the bar) and half a dozen tasting rooms is a 10 minute drive and more fun than a day in Napa. Both have great outdoor patios in the back. The Russian River is five minutes for walking and swimming and Lake Sonoma (boating) is 15 minutes. Or, after tasting as much wine as you can handle, take a day to drive through the Redwoods to the spectacular Sonoma coast (1 hour). We leave tasting maps, a list of our favorite restaurants, wineries and other spots.
Dogs are welcome in the fenced yard and house, as are smokers if you promise to smoke outside. Guest AccessOff street parking, 2 decks, laundry room Interaction with GuestsWhen we are there, you are welcome to join us on the big deck (you also have your own). Often we are not there, though and you have the run of the decks and yard. Feel free to ask for recommendations of any kind. But, we assume you want your privacy and honor that. The NeighborhoodWe are just outside the town of Cloverdale, in a semi-rural location. Walking distance to town (down a hill). A car is necessary, although taxi service is available. While not in the vineyards, convenient to dozens of wineries and away from the craziness Getting AroundYou can rent bikes in Healdsburg or Cloverdale. They will have suggestions for rides through the vineyards or over the hills
You can find good hiking (email hidden) Other Things to NoteNew hot tub just arrived!
