The SpacePrivate community of homes in Northern Neck of Virginia located on the lower Potomac River (where it's 6 miles wide, across from southern Maryland). The house is one block from the beach, where you can swim in the lovely freshwater lake that's restricted to canoes, kayaks and flat-bottom pontoon boats. Watch bald eagles soaring overhead (one summer, I saw an adult eagle teaching its young offspring to fish in that lake), and enjoy the peaceful retreat of the 100-acre man-made lake. Or enjoy searching for shark's teeth along the banks of the Potomac at Shark's Tooth beach in the Stratford Harbour community. Nearby, there's Stratford Hall (a 1,900-acre historic plantation that was the boyhood home of Robert E. Lee), a winery, the Westmoreland Berry farm, and the many water-based pleasures of the Northern Neck. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed. The other two bedrooms have bunk-beds (one of the lower bunks is a full-size bed that sleeps two). So there's beds for 8 people. The living room sofa is a fold-down futon, which is queen-size, so you could have as many as 10 people sleeping in the house. There's a DVD player in the living room (with a selection of DVDs -- but you might want to bring your own. My selection might not be your taste, and several of them are too mature for kids. There's a CD-player/radio in the kitchen/dining room area. For Wi-Fi, you can go to the community clubhouse in Stratford Harbour, which is near the community swimming pool. One of my favorite things about being there is unplugging from the internet in the house, especially with a teenage daughter! Many guests have told me they are pleasantly surprised about this aspect of the house, and that it's one of their favorite parts of their stay. There's also a community marina and boat launch if you bring your own powerboat or large sailboat to use in the Potomac River. We're about 30 miles north of the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay. I have two small sit-on-top kayaks in the house, which you can use in the lake. One of them accommodates a person up to 220 pounds. The other one is just for kids under 80 pounds. There are 3 child-size water safety-vests at the house, and a couple of blowup air-chairs for use in the lake. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, silverware, pots and pans, serving dishes, coffee maker, coffee bean grinder, microwave oven, toaster. There's a Webber Grill in the yard for outdoor grilling. The house is located about an hour east of Richmond, and 2 hours southeast of Washington, DC. The community is quiet, and it's a lovely place for an outdoorsy getaway. If you are looking for a party scene and nightclubs, this is NOT the place you want to go. Here's a link to a recent New York Times article about the Northern Neck and Stratford Hall (4 miles from my house) in particular: (do a (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) search: "northern neck virginia lost history new york times") (I need to know how many guests will be staying in the house when you make your reservation so that the cleaning lady can plan for how much time she will need to clean and do laundry. The extra fee per night for more than 6 guests is to pay her costs.) FYI: The house is on the market to sell now (as of 3/20/16). Because of this, I am able to offer the house for rentals on airbnb for up to 2 months in advance, but I have blocked the calendar after 2 months in advance in the event the house is sold by then. I'm sorry for this inconvenience, but if you're interested in renting further in advance than 2 months, please check back in a few weeks to see if the calendar is cleared for your travel/vacation needs. Or you can send me a request to book if the calendar still appears blocked and it's less than 2 months away. I try to keep up with the calendar, but sometimes it gets away from me. Guest AccessEntire house Interaction with GuestsI interact by email and phone. There is a woman who will be cleaning the house after your visit, and she assists me other aspects of the rentals because she lives in the community. She keeps me up to date about how many people are staying in the house, because I can't always be there to meet my guests. Other Things to NoteThis is my weekend home, and there are signs of my family in the house (some photos, drawings by my kids, etc.). I hope this is OK for you. This is not a corporate rental. If that's what you're looking for, this might not be the house for you.

Experience a home where views are breathtaking, the breeze refreshing, the daily eagle sightings amazing! Kids love playing in the fields or splashing in the water. The resident frog keeping watch over his pool and may sing for you at night. Take family trips in the canoe and kayaks or go for a sail in the sunfish. Hunting for fossils at the cliffs can turn up very cool keepsake. The sun rises are often amazing. Sit on the screen porch with your coffee and enjoy the sun coming up over the water. Watch the boatmen harvest crabs in morning at the landing just below the property and have crab feasts on the picnic table at night. Lazy afternoons can be spent sitting under beautiful mature shade trees and reading books or just taking in the views. The trees are a plant lovers dream, more than most people can name. On the southern edge of the property guests will find two boat slips, one of them covered, waiting for them to tie up their boat at the end of the day. Bicycles are provided as well. Currioman Landings has been held in the same family for generations and is being offered to the public for the first time in July of 2015. The property features a historic home, secluded privacy on over 11 acres, water-front property, mature trees and stunning views of the Potomac river. Heron, Eagles and deer frequent the property making it the perfect retreat from city life. Earliest residents of the area were Native Americans who used the bluff to camp while they fished and hunted. Artifacts from this era continue to be found. More recently, the original home was first built approximately 150 years ago and was ideally suited as at that time most commerce in the area moved by water. The landings served an important part in connecting the local farmers with the outside world and even featured a general store for a time. Since that time the home has seen continual improvements and updating culminating in a 2015 update to replace most major infrastructure, carpet and fixtures as well as a thorough paint and cleaning to make sure that guests find the stay comfortable and worry free. The house now features 4 bedrooms on two floors, a full kitchen, dining and living rooms and both an outdoor patio and a screened porch. The first floor bedroom features a master bath and is ideal for anyone who prefers to avoid stairs. The home is fully furnished and towels, linens and cleaning are all provided for with your rental. Enjoy the charming local and historic sites including: · A small local harbor that abuts to the property where guests can launch their own boats or watch local watermen bringing in the days catch · Wakefield, the birthplace of George Washington (20 minute north) · Westmoreland State Park, offering hiking, fishing, boating, swimming and the Horsehead Cliffs (15 minutes south) · Westmoreland Berry Farm, a riverside farm where you can buy or pick your own fruit (35 minutes west) · Eight wineries and vineyards located along the Northern Neck Wine Trail (30 minutes west) · Fredricksburg, featuring a 40-block Historic District, made up of more than 350 buildings dating to the 18th and 19th centuries (1 hour west) Currioman Landings is a very special place to us, we hope you will enjoy it as much as we do. Currioman is best described as rural. The landing have served generations of watermen bringing in fish, oysters and crabs. These days however it's increasingly common to find tourists on paddle boards, kayaks or powerboats. The few homes in the area are largely separated by farm fields giving the region a feeling of peacefulness and privacy. The nearest town is Montross, about 10 minutes by car, and has all of the basic necessities, some nice restaurants and a tavern.

This is a great spot right on Breton Bay, offering sweeping views of the bay and its opening to the Potomac from its shady porch or from the long dock in front. The home was recently rebuilt from the ground up and is entirely new -- it offers 3 spacious bedrooms, each with its own full bath, and two additional half baths as well. The kitchen appliances are brand new and ready for great family meals and gourmet chefs as well. Convenient to nearby St. Mary's City as well as Solomon's Island, but a quiet spot on the end of a rural farm road -- the only noisy distractions here come from the call from nearby ospreys.
