The SpaceOur Location Located just miles east of historic Heart Mountain in Powell WY, lies Big Quiet Camping within the Common Ground Farms. This farm is one of the only USDA certified organic ranches in the state of Wyoming, and is also home to Rocky Mountain Organic Meats. The Land Gaze across thousands acres of beautiful grassland and sagebrush and witness the natural wonders that brought many Native Americans to Heart Mountain to harness its healing energy. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in a cowboy camping experience then come to Big Quiet Camping. Enjoy the big starry skies, untamed lands and the rich cultural history of the Big Horn Basin. Activities They say the best part of camping is sitting around the campfire at night; Wide open skies above you, the sound of coyotes howling in the distance. That stuff is real, not just fiction made up in spaghetti westerns, and that's why we have built a communal fire pit. Come on down and bring your harmonica, ukulele, guitar, djembe, or dobro! If staying up late and burning the midnight oil around the fire isn't your thing there are numerous other activities on the ranch to partake in. We have a horseshoe pit, numerous hiking and mountain bike trails nearby, and you can also take a tour of the ranch and learn a little bit about where our nation's food really comes from. Guest AccessWe have over 250 acres of land surrounded by thousands of public land that is open to explore! You have access to Heart Mountain for day hikes, elevation at the top 8,200 feet. The views are worth the effort. For the consideration of the other campers enjoying Big Quiet Camping please try to arrive and check in before dark. Interaction with GuestsAt our organic ranch, we believe that respectful and sustainable food production is one of the most important things we can do to help solve our world's health and energy problems. We raise our animals in a humane setting that allows them the freedom they were meant to have from birth; wide open spaces and native vegetation. Our garden of various foods are grown without any pesticides or chemicals, and are planted, weeded, and harvested all by hand. We believe that everyone should know where their food comes from. The NeighborhoodGet a taste of the real American West in the place founded by the one-and-only "Buffalo Bill" Cody. We encourage you to travel to Cody or Powell to immerse yourself in modern western culture as it exists today. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation. We will have horse rides starting in May. Guests are welcome to bring mountain bikes. Other Things to NoteWe are in a safe outdoor environment. NO BEARS, NO WOLVES. Shaded cooking and setting area is provided. Cots and sleeping bags with clean sheets are provided. Firewood bundles are available at a cost. Guided trips are also available. The Four C Ranch is located 12 miles South-West of Cody in the scenic South Fork of the Shoshone River Valley. We are surrounded by majestic mountain vistas and located at the base of Carter Mountain which towers 6,000 feet above the valley floor (11,000 feet above sea level). This is a working cattle ranch and you will occasionally see us working around the area, but the guest house is very private and quiet. The last 1/2 mile is on a gravel road but it is well maintained and easily traveled by any vehicle. The guest house was built in the 1950`s and served as the primary ranch residence for 40 years. The house is spacious and comfortable, as well as being very quiet. Marquette Creek runs the full length of the ranch, providing both livestock and irrigation water. Wildlife is abundant on the ranch with mule deer, white tail deer, pronghorn antelope, and the occasional elk, moose and bald eagle being sited on the property. Great horned owls are also frequent residents. It is an easy 20-minute drive to Cody where you can enjoy the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Old Trail Town, dining, art galleries, entertainment, and all the amenities Cody has to offer. For the more adventurous, there are a number of trail heads and access roads further up the valley that provide access to the Shoshone National Forest, wilderness areas, and lots of hiking and hunting opportunities in the back country (no hunting is allowed here on the ranch). Yellowstone National Park is approximately 90 minutes from the ranch. Come spend some time with us and enjoy ranch life and western living at its best! Immerse yourself in everything Cody and Wyoming has to offer at Walking Deer Cabin. This 1500 sq ft cabin (counting the one car garage) shares 15 acres with the owners homes and is surrounded by larger ranches, providing stunning views of surrounding mountain ranges, the South Fork valley, and the Buffalo Bill Reservoir. It's just minutes away from world class fishing, hunting, birding, ice climbing, and the museums at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. The Cody/Yellowstone airport is only 30 minutes away. Comfort - Walking Deer Cabin sleeps up to 4 and has both heating and central air conditioning. It features a full bath, full kitchen with eating area, and a deck with outdoor furniture. Convenience - Along with the kitchen, enjoy the use of a charcoal BBQ grill. Also included is a TV/VCR/DVD player and high-speed Wi-Fi Internet connection and a gas fireplace. The cabin is just 12 minutes from Cody and the highway to the east entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Unique sense of place - The cabin is one of three dwellings on the property set within an oasis of ash, cottonwood, and a vast variety of pine trees. Much of the property is sheltered from the occasionally strong Wyoming wind. A small pond overlooks the scenic Buffalo Bill reservoir and the adjacent sprawling Diamond Bar ranch. This is cattle country, so driving can sometimes be an adventure when confronting the occasional cattle drive, otherwise known to locals as a South Fork traffic jam. Wildlife - The abundance of trees attracts migrating birds and notable local residents. Bald and Golden eagles regularly appear, as do Sandhill Cranes and Great Horned owls. A family of Redtail Hawks nest just beyond the property line. While bears have not been seen on the property, plenty of deer and antelope wander by, along with an occasional coyote. It's rumored a Jackalope den is back by the pond. The pond has the remnants of a beaver lodge and attracts a variety of waterfowl and a family of muskrats. Big horn sheep and elk can be viewed within a short drive down the valley. In short, Walking Deer Cabin is the perfect destination for nearly every getaway. 3 NIGHT MINIMUM Additional amenities include: 2nd bedroom with 2 twins (this room is accessed by walking through the main bedroom), croquet set, bedroom with queen bed and 2 twins, great views, board games / cards, outdoor fire pit (by permission), outdoor furniture.
