The SpaceThis beautiful 2 bedroom property is situated just a stone's throw from unspoilt 9 Mile Beach, with private access via the front of the property. Just 12.5 kms from the picturesque township of Swansea, where a variety of eating establishments, local art/craft shops and fully stocked general store are ready and waiting. Approx 150 kms from Hobart and Launceston (1.5-2 hrs drive), Beach Haven is the perfect base for day trips to other beauty spots along the east coast of Tasmania, such as Coles Bay & the Freycinet Peninsula, Bicheno, Friendly Beaches and the world renowned Bay of Fires. As well as a wonderful array of options for fresh produce, such as seafood, fruit and world class wines. The Kitchen is fully equipped for cooking for yourselves, or storing/reheating food that you purchase in your travels. Should you wish to cook, we have the following available for your use (other than the usual oven and fridge, of course!): Microwave Oven Bread Maker Slow Cooker Mixer Magimix Food Processor Sandwich Press The Bathroom has all the standard amenities...sink...toilet...shower....but, even better, it has a corner spa as well! We pledge to keep a healthy stockpile of scented candles on hand, for those romantic moments...and maybe a megaphone, to use to get the kids out of the bath! ;) The Living Area is comfortable, light and airy, with a stylish woodburner for those colder nights/days and a fully stocked woodpile to keep the flames burning. There is a fully stocked bookshelf, with a wide variety of authors and titles, for the kids and the grown-ups staying with us, as well as a collection of DVDs to suit a variety of tastes, including well known children's titles. We have a large variety of toys for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers, as well as board games for older kids and a healthy stock of paper, colouring in books and pencils/crayons. We know how much kids love playing with different toys (those that aren't theirs!) and hope these provide happy playing time and, subsequently, happy relaxing time for parents/carers too. Outdoors, we have furniture on the deck for your comfort and for the purpose of eating outdoors. We also have a viewing platform, less than a dozen steps from the front door, where you can sit and admire the beautiful view...read a book, sip a glass of wine. For the kids, we have buckets, spades and a variety of sand-play items for the beach, as well as a cricket set, a variety of footballs and a totem tennis set. Unfortunately, we are unable to supply any inflatable water equipment or watercraft, for safety and liability reasons. We are contactable by phone but allow our guests total privacy during their stay. As parents of two small children ourselves (2 yrs and 5 yrs), we know how important, and sometimes difficult, it is to find truly family friendly accommodation. We also realise the amount of packing that needs to be done, when holidaying with small children, and we hope to alleviate some of this burden, by having toys etc on site, for your use. There is a portacot and appropriate bedding on site and some freshly washed baby/toddler sleeping bags can be requested on booking (we know what a pain it is to have to pack these things...they take up half the luggage!). We may not have anything that suits your exact requirements though, so please do ask us on booking, as there is nothing worse than getting to bedtime and realising the desirable sleep requirements aren't available to you. There is also a Baby Bjorn carrier on site. Whilst pretty well loved, it is sound and functional and perfect for a handsfree stroll along the beach...and maybe even to get bub to sleep. We welcome you to use all the above and just ask that you treat them as you would your own and report any breakages/damage on check-out, so that we can either repair or replace the item. This will also remove any possible hazards for the next family to rent the property. Above all, we really hope you and your family thoroughly enjoy your stay at Beach Haven and you love watching your little ones roam and explore. The SpaceBanksia Cabin is actually several cabins. It's charming, creative and cosy, reminiscent of childhood holidays and simpler times. The Main Cabin houses the living, dining and kitchen with a bathroom. There's a gas heater inside and at the flick of a switch it looks just like a wood fire, without the trouble of firewood. The Bedroom Cabin is situated a couple of meters along the deck from the Main Cabin, with shutters and portholes, and is divided into 2 areas and ideally sleeps 2-3, either in the sublimely comfy queen bed or double. I'm a bit old fashioned so there aren't any electric blankets, although there is a heater in the bedroom if required and several hot water bottles for cold tootsies. There are two new bathrooms, one with a loo and a cast iron bath, which is situated inside the Main Cabin. The other bathroom is accessed via a timber decked walkway from the Main Cabin and contains a shower, loo, washing machine and trough sink. So please note that there are no en suites and that a trip to the loo in the night involves leaving your cabin. You will be blown away by the stars so it's really quite nice. The kitchen area is compact but there are very good quality pots and pans, utensils, cutlery and crockery. The range has gas hobs and an electric convection oven and there is a long rustic table to sit around inside, with candles in bottles to give atmosphere. I've planted some herbs in barrels outside so please use what you need in summer. A toasted sandwich maker is useful for lunches and there is a toaster, stove top espresso pots and a stick vacuum for little messes. Fridge space is adequate but not huge, so a midweek shop for week long stayers might be a good idea. The design of Banksia Cabin is to maximise your relaxation by interaction with the outdoors, a comfortable step up from camping. There are simple gas barbecue facilities near the campfire and a table and benches with umbrellas for shade. If you need to do a load of washing, feel free. Washing powder is provided and there's an inside clothes rack for smalls and a huge Hill's Hoist clothes line outside. Guest AccessSituated on 9 Mile Beach, long beach walks are essential, as is swimming in the surf on the main beach and in the Swan River, only a couple of hundred metres from your door. There are fishing rods provided, so I suggest you pick up some bait in Swansea and head for the river mouth for Bream, Flathead and Cocky Salmon. I've provided some deck chairs and an eski, so take these along. When the surfs up, 9 Mile Beach is great for boogie boarding and there are 2 for your use. For serious surfers, the reef beyond the sand bar is a famous surf spot when conditions are right. The rural township of Swansea is 20 minutes away for shopping, a meal out and the golf course. Local vineyard cellar doors, such as Milton, Springvale and Gala are just north on the Tasman Highway, at Cranbrook. I've provided a library of short stories, classics, decor magazines and interesting coffee table and cook books, as well as maps and brochures to help you get around. I have also provided art materials if the environment spurs the creative muse in you. Interaction with GuestsI don't live on the premises but I'm a phone call away if you have any problems. I probably won't meet you and this is in some way intentional, as I want you to feel as if the cabin is yours for a few days. If you tell me which direction you are coming from I can make some suggestions about what you might like to see/do en route to Banksia Cabin. The NeighborhoodAs this is a 3 acre block, the nearest house/camping is a long way away so you will have complete privacy. Most of the time you will be the only people on the beach, except at school holiday times. The beautiful Freycinet Peninsula and National Park, that you can see from the beach, are close as the crow flies but are about an hour away by car and make an excellent destination for a day trip. Oyster Bay Seafood in Swansea does great fish and chips as well as fresh oysters and crayfish in season. Melshell Oysters are available to purchase off Yellow Sand Banks Road in season. Springvale Vineyard, just a bit further north, has been hosting a pop-up seafood restaurant in Summer and it has been extremely popular. Getting AroundThere is no public transport in the Dolphin Sands/Swansea area so you will need to have your own car. Other Things to NoteAs the cabin's water supply comes either from the artesian bore or from the sky via tanks, it is recommended that you drink the bottled water provided and boil water for cooking.

The SpacePrivate bush and beach setting. Very new architecturally designed one bedroom house. This is a quiet, 'non-touristy' area, but in view of Tasmania's East Coast icons. The beach is really long and it's often hard to spot others enjoying it. Fully self contained. All linen provided. The kitchen has brand new, quality, oven, rangehood, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle, pots, pans, cutlery and crockery etc, etc. No dishwasher I'm afraid. The bathroom has a big shower area, new efficient flush toilet (on a septic system). There is no laundry. But there's a laundromat in Swansea, ten minutes away. And there likely are people close by who work as cleaners and would be willing to do washing. We're on tank water, so there's no spa, and water isn't unlimited. But we haven't needed to be overly careful in the past, to get through the summer with our tanks (10,000L for domestic plus 10,000L reserved for fire). We use water more or less as if we were on the town supply. There is a wood heater and plenty of wood if the weather turns nasty, but this is a warm house, so it's very unlikely you'll need it in the warmer months. There's a renovated record player and a library of records. Key collectable from key-safe at gate. Call us the morning of the day of your arrival, and we'll advise the code. At times we'll be staying nearby and will be available to show guests the property. Very quiet area. Five acre lots with non permanent residents. The beach is often completely empty (all nine miles). Beautiful, abundant bird and wildlife. Open up the big sliders in the morning and listen to the amazing birdlife. Occasionally we see a snake in warmer months, so keep a watch out when you're on the beach track. You can catch flathead off the beach, if you're patient. A kayak will improve your chances. The beach faces due south and catches a consistent swell. It can be really fun to body surf, and occasionally it's wild. You need to be careful with very small children or non-proficient swimmers. But there are safe places for littleuns to swim nearby. From 'the Lighthouse' you are close (45 min) to iconic Coles Bay and Freycinet, and Maria Island ferry service (50min). We won't try to list all the east coast attractions here. Things to do at our place though, include: everything that might involve the view, and coffee and reading and games and music; beach walks or rides; swimming and body surfing; fishing; sailing. Visit yellowbanks on the lagoon, or the mouth of the lagoon where many people fish and swim, and the pelicans and waterbirds are amazing. There is a caravan on the lower quarter of this five acre block, obscured by bush. At times we might be using this caravan, but our guests in the lighthouse will have complete privacy. Guests have a separate track to the beach. Guest AccessFully self contained. All linen provided. The kitchen has new, quality, oven, rangehood, fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle, pots, pans, cutlery and crockery etc, etc. No microwave or dishwasher I'm afraid. But we haven't needed be overly careful in the past, to get through the summer with our tanks (10,000L for domestic plus 10,000L reserved for fire). We use water more or less as if we were on the town supply. There is a wood heater and plenty of wood if the weather turns nasty, but this is a warm house, so it's very unlikely you'll need it. There's a renovated record player and a library of records. Interaction with GuestsKey collectable from key-safe at gate. We will contact you the morning of the day of your arrival, and we'll advise the code. At times we'll be staying nearby and will be available to show guests the property. The NeighborhoodVery quiet area. Visit yellowbanks on the lagoon, or the mouth of the lagoon where many people fish and swim, and the pelicans and waterbirds are amazing. Getting AroundTo get to the Lighthouse you'll need your own transport. There's plenty of parking. You could bus to Swansea and walk the beach for an hour or so to the Lighthouse. We'd need to explain how to find the beach track. Around 1.5 hours from Hobart and Launceston airports. 40 minutes to Coles Bay and Freycinet. At times we might be using this caravan, but our guests in the lighthouse will have complete privacy. Guests have a separate track to the beach.

Here the Swan River makes the road a dead end, ensuring the area remains totally peaceful. However, a relatively short detour makes the area the gateway to the magnificent Freycinet Peninsula and national park, with its limitless bushwalks, fascinating range of wildlife and spectacular destinations such as Wineglass Bay. Boating, swimming and fishing are popular in the area, while boating excursions offer the chance to explore the area from the water. While the main attractions are the sensational views and outdoor activities, Swansea is just minutes away, offering all amenities, including a range of excellent restaurants. The area is equidistant between Hobart and Launceston, a comfortable 90 minute car trip from either airport.

Designed with indoor/outdoor living in mind, the home has decks on three sides accessed by sliding doors at the back and front. In addition to providing privacy, the extensive plantings of native grasses, trees and shrubs around the home attract a variety of wallabies, possums, parrots, wattle birds, cockatoos and many others. It is possible to identify 10 or so species of birds whilst enjoying breakfast on the deck. On a moonless night the back deck is perfect for viewing the millions of stars not visible from a city because of light pollution. Our holiday homestay has three bedrooms; one has a double bed, another a queen size bed and a single bed and the third has two bunk beds and a single bed. All beds have quilts and pillows, (we can supply guests with sheets, pillow cases towels and tea towels for a small extra cost of $10/person/stay). Extra pillows and blankets are stored in the bedroom cupboards. There is a large fully equipped kitchen, dining and living area. The bathroom has a shower, hand basin and a washing machine. There is a separate toilet. The wood heater can be used to warm the shack in mid-winter. Because of the nearby conservation areas and National Park status of the peninsula, we do not allow pets at the shack. Plenty of native animals are already living here! Put some bird seed on the feeding platform and water in the tray and see if you can attract any birds. The Swanwick golf course is very close and there is a set of clubs and buggy behind the bathroom door for you to borrow. A boat ramp is at the Swan River in Swanwick and two boat ramps are about 4 kilometres away in Coles Bay. Great Oyster Bay is about 15km long and 8km wide and is sheltered by the Freycinet Peninsula, making it perfect for boating, fishing or just enjoying the magnificent scenery. Around the Coles Bay region it is easy get to many stunning beaches with beautiful white sand derived from the red granite which form the magnificent Hazards. Well maintained tracks allow access to the iconic Wineglass Bay and across the isthmus to Hazard Beach and further down the peninsula. The Waste Management Centre (on the left as you drive into Coles Bay) is open from 2:30 to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday, and Sunday 12:30 to 4:30. It is closed on Saturday. Before guests leave, we do ask that you leave the shack in a neat and tidy condition and take all rubbish to the local tip. Information about all aspects of the Freycinet National Park will be sent to you after a booking is confirmed and is available from the Parks and Wildlife headquarters next to the entrance to the park past the Freycinet Lodge. Should two bookings be received about the same time, the longer duration booking will take precedence and be accepted. The rental is based on four people and each extra guest will be $20/night/person. Freycinet is a peninsula of native forest edged by crystal blue bays. Hike through protected parkland, scale the granite peaks of The Hazards and emerge at some of Tasmania's most epic swimming spots. Summer does a roaring trade here, so it pays to book accommodation early. Photographers (on land or in scuba suits) love the famous curved shoreline of Wineglass Bay and the granite boulders fringing the shore.. Freycinet National park on Tasmania's east coast is one of the state's most spectacular natural areas and has well-maintained trails and facilities for visitors keen to see world famous Wineglass Bay and beyond. These popular tracks are hugely worth the effort, as are all signposted areas around Freycinet such as Sleepy Bay, the Cape Toureville Lighthouse and Friendly Beaches; all beautiful and pristine with aqua blue waters and white quartz sand. What you may not know is that there are many other surprises lurking down accessible roads and within easily attainable walking distance. Here are five favourites for your stay. 1.Mount Amos- the less trodden track from the Hazards car park. Takes around 3 hours return and can be slippery when wet. From this, the highest Hazard, are 360 degree views including Wineglass Bay in all its glory. Take off early for virgin views. 2.Bluestone Bay and White water Wall are accessed via a 4WD track through dry eucalypt bush near the lighthouse. Ask a local how to find it or jump aboard the quad motorbike tour. You may be lucky enough to watch rock climbers scramble above the swell surge. 3.Southern Friendly Beach- this is 4WD vehicle access, but with a mountain bike or by foot it is worth the hike. Make sure you have supplies and enough time up your sleeve. 4. Campbells Beach is nestled between granite headlands near Hazards View Road is a glorious bay accessed by a sandy track, accessible by foot from the main road. Lovely for swimming and fishing off the beach with an unbeatable view across Great Oyster Bay to the magnificent Hazards. 5.Honeymoon Bay - honestly it's like another planet. Rock hop in summer with your snorkel and goggles and roll your body in the shiny amber pebbles that pose as sand under the shade of a Sheoak tree. 6. Watch for dolphins and whales off the coast while paddling at Coles Bay, or sea kayak further, maybe camp overnight on Hazards Beach or do the full 27km length of the peninsula to reach the hut at Schouten Island.. Designed for indoor/outdoor living, the peaceful home has decks on three sides accessed by sliding doors at the back and front. The native grasses, trees and shrubs around the home attract a variety of wallabies, possums, parrots, cockatoos and delightful smallerl birds. Many lovely white sandy beaches framed by stunning red granite Hazards mountains and azure seas with easy walking trails.
