Happy Travels :) Guest AccessYou will have access to the full house, as well as the yard outside. You will not have access to the RV or the shed outside. Interaction with GuestsWe will be available to be reached by phone, text, or email. Laura (Sara's sister), the property manager, lives just down the road with her husband and children, and will be available for questions or assistance. She can be reached by phone. If by chance Laura is unavailable then Becky, the assistant manager, will also be around to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Host interaction with guests depends on your comfort level. We respect your privacy completely, but if you want our hosts to come up and help you build a campfire and make s'mores, or maybe chat on the phone about the best local restaurants or shopping, they are available.
We are happy to accommodate special requests for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. If you want a sign placed out celebrating your special day, a special food item purchased, candles set out, or even a mini-acoustic concert by our host (who happens to be a professional singer), serenading your sweetheart, we can make it happen. We would love to make your stay a memorable one to the best of our ability. Prices and availability for these services vary so please submit your request in advance. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is nestled at the base of the red sandstone mesa known as Lyon's Point. People live here because this is a place where one can find peace and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Most people have lived here many years. Neighbors watch out for each other and will do the same for any guest staying at the Desert Sage Chalet.
As you are enjoying your experience and being introduced to our country culture, remember, we do not live in the suburbs. This is a rural community and you may find that some houses or yards look different from what you are used to. Every house is on one acre or more, including the chalet, which offers extra privacy, but most of these properties are not perfectly manicured. You might even think some of them look a little "hillbilly", but don't worry, the chalet is located in one of the safest neighborhoods in Arizona. Our local host's husband has lived here for 24 years and cannot recall a crime being committed in all those years. Emergency responders arrive within 10 minutes when called. This neighborhood is dear to our hearts and we truly hope that each guest will understand why, as they share our home away from home with us.
Please remember that the chalet is located in the country in a beautiful, natural habitat. During your stay you will probably encounter any of the following harmless creatures: crickets, beetles, grasshoppers, toads, stink-bugs, houseflies, daddy-long legs, house spiders, etc. You may hear a rooster crowing or dogs barking. You may walk out your door one morning and find a herd of cows grazing across the fence. This is part of the Desert Sage Chalet experience and we hope you are patient with mother nature.
We do have rattlesnakes in the area, so if you go walking and exploring, please be careful and watchful. Rattlesnakes are naturally defensive creatures. Although bites rarely occur, it is something to consider when enjoying the desert. We also have gnats, mosquitos, and wasps, that can really "bug" you. We suggest wearing insect repellent when you explore, and always take food, water, and an emergency whistle. There is an emergency that you can use hanging on the hook by the back door. Never hike alone! If you have questions about hiking, or recreation in the local area, feel free to call your host or manager. Getting AroundWe are located in a quiet little town with all the conveniences you need during your trip. After you book your stay, you can view all our favorite places in our guidebook. There is a wonderful neighborhood grocery store, dollar and general store, beer, wine & convenience store, hardware store, bakery and coffee shop, pizza parlor, multiple cafes, health food store, parks and hikes, and gas station, all within 5-15 minutes from the chalet.
