If by chance Laura is unavailable then Becky, the assistant manager, will also be around to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Host interaction with guests depends on your comfort level. We respect your privacy completely, but if you want our hosts to come up and help you build a campfire and make s'mores, or maybe chat on the phone about the best local restaurants or shopping, they are available. We are happy to accommodate special requests for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. If you want a sign placed out celebrating your special day, a special food item purchased, candles set out, or even a mini-acoustic concert by our host (who happens to be a professional singer), serenading your sweetheart, we can make it happen. We would love to make your stay a memorable one to the best of our ability. Prices and availability for these services vary so please submit your request in advance. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is nestled at the base of the red sandstone mesa known as Lyon's Point. People live here because this is a place where one can find peace and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Most people have lived here many years. Neighbors watch out for each other and will do the same for any guest staying at the Desert Sage Chalet. As you are enjoying your experience and being introduced to our country culture, remember, we do not live in the suburbs. This is a rural community and you may find that some houses or yards look different from what you are used to. Every house is on one acre or more, including the chalet, which offers extra privacy, but most of these properties are not perfectly manicured. You might even think some of them look a little "hillbilly", but don't worry, the chalet is located in one of the safest neighborhoods in Arizona. Our local host's husband has lived here for 24 years and cannot recall a crime being committed in all those years. Emergency responders arrive within 10 minutes when called. This neighborhood is dear to our hearts and we truly hope that each guest will understand why, as they share our home away from home with us. Please remember that the chalet is located in the country in a beautiful, natural habitat. During your stay you will probably encounter any of the following harmless creatures: crickets, beetles, grasshoppers, toads, stink-bugs, houseflies, daddy-long legs, house spiders, etc. You may hear a rooster crowing or dogs barking. You may walk out your door one morning and find a herd of cows grazing across the fence. This is part of the Desert Sage Chalet experience and we hope you are patient with mother nature. We do have rattlesnakes in the area, so if you go walking and exploring, please be careful and watchful. Rattlesnakes are naturally defensive creatures. Although bites rarely occur, it is something to consider when enjoying the desert. We also have gnats, mosquitos, and wasps, that can really "bug" you. We suggest wearing insect repellent when you explore, and always take food, water, and an emergency whistle. There is an emergency that you can use hanging on the hook by the back door. Never hike alone! If you have questions about hiking, or recreation in the local area, feel free to call your host or manager. Getting AroundWe are located in a quiet little town with all the conveniences you need during your trip. After you book your stay, you can view all our favorite places in our guidebook. There is a wonderful neighborhood grocery store, dollar and general store, beer, wine & convenience store, hardware store, bakery and coffee shop, pizza parlor, multiple cafes, health food store, parks and hikes, and gas station, all within 5-15 minutes from the chalet. Some of the sights and state/national parks you might want to visit are: ~Coral Pink Sand Dunes- 9 miles ~Gooseberry Mesa-15 miles ~Grand Canyon North Rim- 89 miles ~Water Canyon- 10 miles ~Pipe Springs- 15 miles ~Kanab, Utah- 43 miles ~Kolob Reservoir via Kolob Terrace (Heavenly Valley)- 63 miles ~Hurricane, Utah- 30 miles ~Sand Hollow State Park- 40 miles ~Zion National Park- via Smithsonian Butte 28 miles ~St. George, UT- 48.4 miles ~Zion National Park- via highway 50 miles ~Bryce Canyon- 90 miles ~Lake Powell- 105 miles ~Page- 110 Miles ~Antelope Canyon- 120 miles ~Las Vegas- 168 miles Or, you might just want to hang out and explore some of the areas you can see from the Desert Sage Chalet :-) Other Things to NoteWelcome to your very own "5 billion star hotel"! The SpaceSurrounded by the gigantic splintered peaks of Canaan Mountain, your campsite is the most convenient base camp to the Water Canyon network of hiking trails: a hidden canyoneering and hiking gem on the fringe of Zion National Park. Campsite 1 is an approximately 50 foot hike from the parking space to the camp spot. Like all our campsites, there are plenty of trees, and desert shrubs all around but the actual ground is covered by several inches of silky smooth red sand - very comfortable for camping. This is one among several camp sites on our private property. We will give you the gate code to enter the property prior to your arrival. NOTE - Though only 15 miles as the crow flys, this is about an hour drive from the main entrance of Zion National Park. Guest AccessPack it in, pack it out philosophy - there are no bathrooms or water on this property. This is primitive camping on stunningly beautiful land - but there are no amenities other then a fire pit and a place to pitch your tent (van campers also welcome). Bring your own water, food and camping supplies. We have a few dispersed campsites on our property, so you may have camp neighbors. Interaction with GuestsThis is a remote camping site that you can easily drive to. It is for independent, adventurous souls only who are looking for a pristine desert camping experience. There's no camp host although me and my friends (who bought the property collectively) are happy to answer any of your questions before and during your stay. There is no cell service at the camp site (although if you drive one mile back into the town of Hildale, UT there is service). We are a conservation minded collection of adventurers who are wildly in love with the southwest. We bought this property (bordering an already protected area of wilderness) to preserve its natural beauty while sharing it with others. We believe in the fundamental goodness of all people and with that we ask you to simply respect the land and tread as lightly as possible. Feel free to collect firewood from dead trees - there are plenty! However please resist the urge to damage any of the living trees or plants. Stay on already marked trails (some of which were formerly off road vehicle trails) and most of all have fun! Water Canyon is one of THE hidden gems of the southwest and we're honored to share our piece of it with you. The NeighborhoodOur property (though private) blends unimpeded into the vast greater Zion Wilderness and borders the protected backcountry area of Canaan Mountain Wilderness. It's ideal for campers who love the feeling of a remote campsite but like the convenience of being able to drive to it. It's also perfect for those who want the most direct access to The Water Canyon network of trails. From the campground you can walk or drive one mile to the Water Canyon trailhead or for a closer trailhead, simply walk across the dirt road to the Squirrel Canyon trailhead (a jaw-dropping, beautiful hike who's trailhead sits kitty corner to our property). Water Canyon is a local favorite hike and famous canyoneering route through a spring fed canyon chuck full of waterfalls, pools, hanging gardens and natural water slides. Squirrel canyon is an epic hike in its own right (although less popular then water canyon) through deeply carved sandstone cliffs which follow a meandering stream. Getting AroundThere is no public transit - you'll need your own car. Also, it's a dirt road (for about 1 mile) to our property - any car can make it unless it's raining. If it's raining the road is almost impossible. Driving time from campground: Zion National Park: 55 min. Bryce Canyon National Park: 2 hours. Grand Canyon (north rim): 2 hours. Lake Powell: 1 hour 45 min. Cedar Breaks National Monument: 1 hour 30 min. St George: 50 min. Las Vegas: 2 hours 30 min. Kanab: 40 min. Salt Lake City: 4 hours 30 min. Panama City: 3 days 4 hours 3 min. Other Things to NoteNo cell service (Verizon wireless does get one bar of service from time to time) No bathroom (pack it in, pack it out). No water provided Nearest bathroom is at Maxwell Park - a city park about a mile and a half away - there is also potable drinking water here. There a plenty of trees large enough to hang hammocks if you're like me and prefer to swing above the ground in a cocoon of comfort. Depending on the season there can be gnats and an occasional mosquito so bring bug spray if flying critters annoy you.

Squirrel canyon is an epic hike in its own right (although less popular the water canyon) through deeply carved sandstone cliffs which follow a meandering stream.

The SpaceSurrounded by the gigantic splintered peaks of Canaan Mountain, Your campsite is the most convenient base camp to the Water Canyon network of hiking trails: a hidden canyoneering and hiking gem on the fringe of Zion National Park. Campsite IV is an approximately 50 foot hike from the parking space to the camp spot. Spectacular views of the surrounding cliffs make this campsite one of a kind. Like campsite II, it has a permanent bench next to the fire which comfortably seats 3 people. The SpaceThe Stuart Farm is a three acre property that will feel like your very own country home. The main house is about 1800 sq. ft.; fully furnished with everything that you need to enjoy a comfortable, relaxing stay. The Farm has an orchard, vineyard, greenhouse and garden. In the summertime, we invite you to help yourself and enjoy any of the fruit and vegetables that are grown on the property. Take as much as you like, but please do not take more than you can eat. The Farm offers stunning mountain views, spectacular sunsets and glorious night sky's showcasing millions of stars. The farm is located on ancient Anasazi Indian ruins. It is said that over 10,000 Indians once lived in the Cane Beds valley. If you hike around the property, you may find arrowheads and ancient pieces of broken pottery. Petroglyphs are carved on the surrounding cliffs and caves can be seen where Indians once lived. If you find any Indian artifacts, please leave them where you found them. It is considered very bad luck to take Indian artifacts off of the land. The Indians have a saying, "Take only what you need, but leave the land as you found it". The farm is home to many wild animals including huge jackrabbits, deer, coyotes, cows grazing out on the east range and a herd of resident big horn sheep on the north ridge. There is also a family of big toads that live near the house patio that come out in the evenings to say hello and eat bugs. They are our friends, so be kind to them and leave them untouched in their element. Because we are out in the wilderness, the farm is also home to a large array of bugs, crickets, spiders, bees and the occasional snake. Most of the snakes are good snakes and keep rodents away from the property, but the rare rattlesnake has been seen in the area, so be mindful of where you are walking and always take precaution. Mother Nature has given us an abundance of gifts and we hope that you enjoy them. We only ask that you honor and respect the land; leaving it untouched, the way that you found it. The house is fully furnished and the kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans, dishes and appliances. We have provided the basics for cooking such as salt, pepper, sugar, spices, oil, etc. You will only need to bring in the food that you will be eating. We have a second refrigerator/freezer in the adjacent storage room off the kitchen for overflow. We provide complimentary spring water, coffee, tea, sugar and creamer. We also provide linens, hand soap, toilet paper, trash bags and cleaning supplies. There is a washer and dryer with complimentary laundry supplies and an iron and ironing board. The house comes with wireless internet and we have installed a booster so that your cellular phone will reach a signal. All four of the bedrooms are on the second floor. Guests should be comfortable using stairs to access the sleeping areas. For guests that are not able to use stairs, there is a pull-out sofa bed available on the main floor. Guest AccessYou will have full access to the house, the Jacuzzi, the roof deck and the three acre property. You will not have access to the outbuildings or to the garage. We require that all children are accompanied and supervised by an adult when occupying the roof deck or using the Jacuzzi. We have a few neighbors with small children that frequently play outside. We request that you drive slowly in and out of the property while on the dirt roads, keeping an eye out for small children and pets. Interaction with GuestsWe are available by phone, text or email at any time. A local site manager will also be available in the event of an emergency. We are always willing to try to accommodate special requests for birthdays, anniversaries, family reunions, etc. Please let us know how we can help and we will do our best to make your request a reality. Prices and availability for services vary, so please submit any request in advance. The NeighborhoodThe Arizona Strip has long been a cattleman's paradise with large stretches of grassy meadow in the valleys and the high Kaibab plateau as summer forage. At the beginning of the 20th century the Grand Canyon Cattle Company ran upwards of 100,000 cattle throughout the strip to graze. today, the area is small ranchers raising herds for market. The Canebed's area has been cattle ranching country since the mid-19th century. Many of the original ranching families still live here and occupy the cattle grazing lands. Our neighborhood is nestled at the base of the red sandstone mesa known as Lyon's Point. Many of the neighbors have lived here for a long time and enjoy the peace and escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Neighbors watch out for each other and will do the same for any guests staying at Stuart Farm. Getting AroundThe nearest grocery store is located in Centennial City which is about a 15-20 minute drive from the farm. The grocery store is called Bee's Marketplace and is located on Central Street. For driving directions: Travel on Cane Beds Road heading west back to the main highway. Once at the highway turn right towards Colorado City. Travel approximately 1.5 miles and turn left at Airport Avenue. The first left turn is Central Street. Bee's marketplace is down in the second shopping center on the right hand side of the street. They are open everyday from 7am to 9pm (Mountain Time) Other Things to NoteThe house keeps quiet hours after 10pm on weekdays and 11pm on weekends. The area is very remote and quiet; sound travels a far distance. Any neighbors living in the area would rather not know they even have neighbors, much less hear them late in the evening. Many of the people in the neighborhood go to bed shortly after dark. We ask that you respect these quiet hours on our behalf.

The SpaceLyman's Place is an original homesteader's one room cabin. Built in the early 20th century, it has recently been restored and finished. It features the original wood plank floors, rough sawn lumber beams and paneling, as well as hand finished cob walls. It functions as a cute and cozy studio, with the entire living, kitchen, dining, and sleeping quarters in one room. It's ideal for traveling couples or adventurous singles. We provide simple breakfast items for you like granola, eggs, fruit, yogurt & juice. We also provide tea, coffee, and essentials like oil, spices, etc. There is a well stocked kitchenette which includes all the necessities for cooking. You will have a mini-frige, microwave, double ceramic hot plate, toaster oven, coffee maker, blender, and food processor. There is no regular oven for baking. There are plenty of dishes, pots & pans, as well as things like soap, paper towels, tin foil, etc. We try to be as thoughtful as possible in preparing the space to accommodate travelers. You will have clean, comfortable linens, extra blankets, towels, washcloths, etc. Lyman's Place has a full bathroom, however, only showering is recommended. The current hot water heater is not sufficient to fill the bathtub. Guest AccessYour privacy is respected on our ranch. You have your own private cabin, bath, porch, and reserved parking area. You will have access to a shared yard, firepit area, adjacent treehouse, and garden when in season. You will also have access to hike around our private canyon, but please follow all host rules and recommendations before doing so. AN IMPORTANT NOTE TO OUR GUESTS: The North Rim of the Grand Cayon is closed from December 1st-May 1st. The only ways to visit the GC during this time is through the "Desert View" or South Rim. Both of these locations are approximately 4 hours from from the cabin. During the open season from May 1st to December 1st we are 90 minutes from the north rim. Interaction with GuestsWe are available for assistance, questions, directions, etc. We are happy to visit and say hello. We may build a campfire in the shared firepit area and invite you to an impromptu concert from our host or a dutch oven dinner. We love to visit but of course respect your privacy and space as well. The NeighborhoodWe live in a safe and respectful rural neighborhood. Neighbors here watch out for each other and we will do the same for you. We have lived here for 20 years and cannot remember a single crime being committed in the neighborhood. Emergency responders are here within minutes of being called if necessary. There are cows, horses, and mini-farms and ranches all over. We hope you love the beauty of our rural area. Getting AroundNo public transportation, but the roads are paved up until our driveway, which is dirt and gravel. Other Things to NoteWe live in a rural area on a ranch and farm and have many animals and pets. Some are penned in and some free-range like our chickens and dogs. You may hear our dogs barking in the middle of the night or a rooster crow. You may hear coyotes laughing and yelping. We welcome you as our guests and try to be as accommodating as possible. However, farm life happens...:) Please try to be patient if unexpected issues arise during your stay. We are always open for recommendations and comments/suggestions and strive to offer our guests a wonderful experience here.
