The SpaceThis is a quiet peaceful setting amidst redwoods, douglas fir, madrone and tan oak trees, with only the sounds of nature. You can enjoy starlit nights and see the milky way. The driveway offers a nice easy walk and there is a short trail to the Albion River near the Headwaters. The air and water are fresh. There are skylights in each room and a comfortable double bed. The kitchen has organic coffee, teas, sugar, organic olive oil, salt and pepper. Guest AccessThere is no cell phone coverage here but we can arrange for you to use my phone. Interaction with GuestsI'll be here to greet you and show you around, and to help if you need something. Otherwise, you'll have all the privacy you want. The NeighborhoodI love the absolute quiet, ever changing light on the trees, the magical forest after a rain, mule deer, red fox, raccoons, birds, the sound of raven's wings, the river during rainy season, and the smells in this wilderness. Getting AroundDrive up the hill, .3 of a mile, to the end of the long paved driveway. You can park down near the house as there is room to turn around. The Comptche Store is 1 mile north and open from 8 am to 6 pm. Sunday hours are 10 am to 2 pm.

The SpaceThis is a very elegant and rustic get-a-way situated in the country. The room at the top of the barn looks out on the pond and the Redwood and Fir trees. There is a large meadow that can be seen from the private deck. The room is large and has a beautiful bed with memory foam mattress and Egyptian cotton sheets. The sitting area has a TV (DVD's), a wood burning stove, a newly designed kitchenette complete with two burner hot plate, cookware, frig, dishware and an outdoor sink. The new kitchenette provides a convenient space for creating a simple meal. Folks wishing to cook meats, onions, strong herbs or fried foods are welcome to use the "workshop" kitchen downstairs which has a small gas 4 burner stove and an oven. There is no additional charge for the use of the downstairs but we do ask that you leave the area clean. There is a small library downstairs as well. The large deck faces east to capture the morning sun and there is an outdoor shower. The bathhouse is located about 10 steps from the main room and has a large claw-less tub where you can soak away all your stress. After the hot bath you can wrap yourselves in robes and sit by the fire and sip a little hot chocolate, tea or.... There is also a BBQ (charcoal grill) on the deck. Bring your own charcoal. The pond is available for you to enjoy. We have a canoe and during the summer the swimming is wonderful (until the water gets low in July-August) if you don't mind the frogs. We do have wide mouth Bass for those who want to bring a rod. This is the one of the most romantic and beautiful places to stay in Mendocino. It is 20-25 minutes to the village of Mendocino, 35 minutes to wine tasting in Anderson Valley and 35 minutes to Orr Hot Springs. There are many great hiking trails within walking distance of the ranch. Due to our proximity to Orr Hot Springs, the water has a high sulfur content and smell at certain times of the year. If this is an issue for you this may not be the place for you. The water is safe to bathe and cook with and we provide plenty of drinking water. If you decide to make reservations at Orr Hot Springs we can provide a customized gourmet picnic for $30.00 for two people. Orr Hot Springs is booked up to three weeks in advance so make reservations early. If you are looking for a beautiful, relaxing and private get-a-way, this is it. The accommodation is perfect for a romantic weekend or a personal retreat. The barn is located just a few yards from a large pond and the main room is upstairs so the Barn is not suitable for children. Additional adults are $50 per person per night. Guest AccessThere is a small store within walking distance for your basic needs. The store has some veges often locally grown, some deli meats, beer, wine, bread and dairy. They do NOT accept credit or debit cards. Cash and checks only. Interaction with GuestsYou will be greeted upon arrival and then you will have complete privacy. If you need anything I am on the property nearby (150+ feet) but not within view. We always respect your privacy. The NeighborhoodThe land at the Harmony Ranch is quiet, beautiful and full of life. Getting AroundA car is the only way to get here. There is no public transportation. Other Things to NoteThe internet is best if you sit low on the east side of the upstairs. Some devices have a little trouble getting connected but if you are having a problem you can come tothe main house and get better access. The connection is fine for email but not great for (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) or streaming. We do not have cell reception in the area but there is a land line. We are a tobacco free property.

The SpaceBig River Farm was once a Zen commune in the 60's. We have retained much of the flavor of that time. There are 4 dwellings on the property, strategically situated to have privacy from each other, but sharing the driveway, orchard & garden. The Zendo is a REDWOOD HOUSE nestled amongst the ferns and cherry trees, and can sleep 4 between its cozy BEDROOM w/ queensize bed and LIVING ROOM w/ kingsize pullout sleeper couch. There is a separate "bonus room" in the TOWER for yoga or quiet time. This room is not heated or insulated, so the wintertime is a bit challenging In the summer it is a lovely retreat. We added satellite wifi to the Zendo, so guests can check their email & surf the web. We have limited data, however, and streaming video or audio is restricted. LARGE KITCHEN is well-equipped for cooking and entertaining. A couple or individual could enjoy the spacious single bedroom house, or up to 4 guests can comfortably share an incredibly AFFORDABLE vacation house. Guest AccessSURROUNDED by Big River State Forest land, Big River Farm is only 1 mile by hiking trails from the Big River, and hosts many enormous ANCIENT REDWOOD TREES. Make sure to come in the summertime and fall too, when the BERRY BUSHES and ORCHARDS are bursting with ripe goodies! Interaction with GuestsI have an art studio & cabin on the property, so I come and go as the creative urges (and garden watering) dictate. If you need help settling in, please let me know and I will arrange to greet you. I encourage people unfamiliar with woodstoves to let me know and I will give you a basic introduction. Please help yourselves to the herbs to the right of the garden gate & any fruit on the trees when they are in season. The NeighborhoodWe are surrounded on 3 sides by State Parks, so are really located "deep in the forest" while still having access to the paved road to town. We can walk down a trail to the river from the property, but it's very steep and most people enjoy going to the mouth of the river to Big River Beach and walking or biking up the Haul Road on the other side of the river. There are trail maps on the desk in the Zendo. Getting AroundUnfortunately, there is no public transportation to the Zendo. Mendocino is 10 minutes away, mostly downhill so a car is a must, although we have had serious bicyclist visitors as well. Other Things to NoteWe now have limited data internet so please enjoy but try to limit your data usage! There is a house phone for those whose cell phones don't work well (AT&T, TMobile, Sprint). Verizon & USCellular work fine.
