The SpaceThis 300 sq foot in-law apartment and fenced private garden with outdoor seating are attached to a family home, but entirely self contained and designed to relax in.
The cozy kitchen features a full size stove, oven, microwave, Keurig and refrigerator along with basic cooking items. There is also a sitting area, flat panel TV, and a few games and books for those who prefer quieter activities.
There are two steps up to the bedroom, which has a comfy queen sized bed, a small desk and an attached 3 piece bath.
The apartment shares air conditioning and heating with the main house where the controls are preset for average comfort.
NOTE: California summer nights drop into the 60's. At ~8-9pm, I turn off the air, open windows and turn the whole house and attic fans on high for an hour to cool the inside down to the same temp as the outside. If you will please open the windows at that time we will all get fresh cool air and conserve energy too.
A full breakfast is not available on site, but your host does provide various coffees and teas, juice and rolls in your kitchen. If you have never worked a Keurig coffee maker and need additional directions beyond those printed on the machine, please ask. Guest AccessThis 300 sq foot in-law apartment and fenced private garden with outdoor seating are attached to a family home, but entirely self contained. There is a heavy-duty door between the residence and the apartment, securely locked on both sides. You may hear some family or neighborhood noises :)
There are two small dogs on the property, but effort is made to restrict them to the hosts private residence.
The apartment has cable television, please make pre arrangements with the host if you wish to order pay per view. Wifi is available on request.
Please be aware that the shower has a bar over the top of the door and so those over 6 foot high may need to be cautious getting in and out of the shower. There is also two steps up from the kitchen/dining area to the bedroom, making this unit unsuitable for handicap. Also, if your vehicle is too large to make a 3 point turn or you are uncomfortable backing up your vehicle 100 feet, you will find it more convenient to park on the street. Interaction with GuestsAs working hosts, we will likely be away during business hours, but are a short distance away for our guests that have any questions. We are usually available by text, and may be able to make arrangements to assist those who have a specific need. If you do not have texting capabilities, please call my cell phone, knock or leave a note on the door.
For your enjoyment, various snacks and beverages will be waiting for you when you arrive. In the event that a guest is staying longer than several days, we may make arrangements to tend to your private garden, empty the trash and replenish your refreshments.
Additional linens are in the lower desk drawer and blankets are on the closet shelf. If you have never worked a Keurig coffee pot before, please ask for directions.
If you were hoping for more interaction....maybe a glass of wine? Let me know so we can find a mutually convenient time! I love meeting new people, but recognize that not everyone wants to go on vacation or come back to their accommodations after a long day and visit with their hostess :) The NeighborhoodOn a clear night you may be able to hear the BART trains in the distance, but for the most part the noises you might hear are those of a normal neighborhood. There is a small family run convenience store 3 blocks away for any items you may have forgotten as well as those last minute ice cream cravings! Plus, there are 3 major grocery chains, 2 drugstores and a variety of wonderful restaurants a short distance away.
In the springtime our garden has a variety of hummingbirds, doves and native songbirds on the property which can make for an delightful addition to your morning coffee. Sometimes there is a family of racoons that like to meander through the yards too and while this can cause all the neighborhood dogs (mine included) to sound the alarm, it also can be quite entertaining! Getting AroundFor those looking for a base of operations for sightseeing, this is the place to be. You can drive to the beach for a morning surf and head to the mountains to ski the afternoon!
If you travel by car, there is easy parking right on the street and usually we will prearrange for our guests to park on the drive. Highways 4, 24, 580 and 680 are all easily reached in just a few minutes drive and most of the smartphone GPS systems are quite accurate for this area.
We are just a short walk to the bus stop and from there a quick five minute ride to the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), which goes to Oakland and San Francisco Airports and points in between! If you prefer to walk, transportation is a short 3 blocks away BART trains are an easy 20 minute stroll.
BART goes directly to (website hidden) stadium, the San Francisco Embarcardo area, and ..... Other area attractions are easily accessed with the addition of bus and/or trolley.
The Napa wine country, Redwoods, Livermore Valley Wine region, the renowned Lesher Theatre, the Concord Music Pavillion, downtown Concord music in the park, BlackHawk Automobile Museum, Farmers Markets and a variety of entertainment are all within a short drive.
For the sports enthusiasts, this part of California is home to 2 Major League Baseball teams, 2 NFL teams, Professional Hockey, Basketball and a large variety of collegiate sports. We have a cornucopia of golf courses to choose from and some pretty good Bacci Ball fields too!
If you are in town on business, Shadelands business park is less than 15 minutes away, Chevron San Ramon is about 20 minutes and Safeway headquarters in Pleasanton is 30 minutes in non peak traffic. Other Things to NoteIn the last several years California has experienced significant drought, brown is the new green....please pardon the re-landscaping. We ask our guests to be mindful of the environment, power usage and particularly of water usage. Five minute showers are always appreciated and reusing a clean towel is encouraged.
The bedroom has comfortable queen sized bed and while the floor space may get a bit tight, there is room for a child. Please contact your host for details and recommendations.
