The SpaceA unique experience of living in the round amid a wonderful wooded paradise in the North Carolina mountains. Fully residential, beautiful, and full of fun! Come alone, with friends or family, to a peaceful retreat with amazing character! Living in the round is a great experience! The space seems larger than it actually is and has wonderful open energy flow. This is a lovely retreat for those looking for a peaceful place in the woods to return to the simplicity of living in the natural environment or for any other reason you may want to get away. This home is a residential yurt with two structures. The larger yurt contains the living area, full kitchen, and has two bedrooms but only one of which is secluded (there is a bed in the loft and the second, more open, bedroom has two bunk beds). The smaller yurt structure contains the luxury bathroom with a walk-in shower with bench and a jacuzzi jetted tub, as well as the utility area with washer and dryer. There is also significant deck space and a gazebo for outdoor living space. In total, this home will comfortably sleep up to 6, plus there is a pack-n-play available if you have an infant or toddler. This makes the home perfect for couples, small families, or a small comfortable group. The space is open without significant amounts of furniture to encourage movement and socializing of those who occupy it. But there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We encourage you to come experience what living in a yurt is all about and enjoy yourselves in this hand-build and beloved space! Wooded atmosphere with mountain views, opportunities to watch wildlife, and some hiking opportunities. Within 10-15 minutes driving distance to the town of Valdese for cute shops and dining, and 15-20 minutes to the small city of Morganton that offers significantly more shopping, dining, and attractions. 25 minutes to Hickory, NC and 1 hour to the cities of Asheville and Charlotte as well as the town of Boone and some winter sports opportunities. The Blue Ridge mountains are within this driving distance as well as provide a wonderful day or part-day excursion. There is a lot to do in this area, and then you can come home to a cozy, unique place to relax and recharge. Our property managers and hosts live up the hill from the home and are available promptly to address any problem you may have or if you want to ask for directions or have any questions about the area. This home is in a quiet mountain residential area at the end of a culdesac. The nearest neighbor is partially visible through the trees, and this is the property manager/host. There are rarely any other people nearby although occasional 4-wheelers or hikers passing through. No public transit, unfortunately. There are cab companies that will come pick up, and full access by emergency vehicles, but you will need a car to regularly come and go from this home. Other Things to NoteDuring the spring rains, our dirt road can get quite muddy, so take caution. Also, the 100-200-yard driveway down to the yurt is difficult to maintain adequate grading. It is passable by many vehicles, but may not be for the faint of heart. If you have questions, feel free to ask and if you have options for the vehicle you bring, four wheel drive is recommended, and very low-riding vehicles are Not recommended. It is also not a long walk to park up at the cul-de-sac and walk down.

The SpaceThe lodge was hand built in 2014/15 by Gary Mull (the owner) using traditional methods. It has a quaint rustic feel and appearance that will take you back in time. The all wood cabin sleeps 12 comfortably with 4 bedrooms, 1 sleeper sofa, 1 full bath on the main floor, a half bath upstairs and another bath in the basement. The house has a washer and dryer and is stocked with kitchenwares. Bed Linens are provided. The space is perfectly prepared for the fall with two wood stoves and plenty of fire wood to use. For those you who do not wish to build a fire, there is a heat pump. Located on 8 acres, it has over 1500 ft of river frontage perfect for exploring. The river contains brim, bass, catfish, and trout that migrate down from stocked waters. Its 100% fishable by wading chest deep or less. The namesake of Mill Pond Lodge is the site where the old Jacob Fork River Mill sat which was built in 1907. They damned up the river with logs back then and the iron stakes are still visible in the rocks. The old turbine for the mill is still there as well. Guest AccessGuest will have access to the entire 8 acres beyond the farm gate that marks the entrance to the property. Interaction with GuestsThe property owners live a couple miles down the road. We are happy to meet with you to ensure you check in with out any issues. Once you are done simply lock the doors and gate. The NeighborhoodThe experience you'll get at Mill Pond Lodge is one of peace and relaxation. Disconnect from the daily rat race, unwind, and relax. You can build campfires, relax on the porches, crowd around a wood stove, or walk along the river. The largest state park in NC (South Mountain State Park) is about 10 mins from the property. It encompasses ~17k acres. Also, located nearby is Pine Mountain Golf Course. Getting AroundCar transportation only Other Things to NoteThe property is very isolated. If you want a place to disconnect and unwind this is a great place.

The SpaceYou may fish if you bring a pole and bait, but please catch-and-release. The 3rd pond from the road is a koi pond. Please don't fish here. You may feed the koi a little fish food. Guest AccessThere is a paddleboat and aluminum fishing boat with paddle available. Your children may enjoy riding on ride-on toys or skate boards under the pavilion. Ask about using the golf cart if you need it. It's kept off of the property. There is a floating fountain in one of the ponds which can be turned off if desired by unplugging it at the deck outlet. The fountain keeps the algae down. Interaction with GuestsContact host by email or text with questions or requests. The NeighborhoodThe property sits at the bottom of Mineral Springs Mountain, so there is often traffic coming on and off the mountain behind the cabin. We have noise-breaking trees and shrubs behind the cabin near the road. You will also hear interstate traffic, especially in the winter. A floor fan is provided for white noise if you want to use it. Other than that, the property has a park- like feel to it and is very private. Other Things to NoteThis property is about a half mile from I-40; just 15 miles from Hickory; about 65 miles from Asheville; 35 miles from Blowing Rock; and 45 miles from Boone.
