We are located close (walking distance) to the trail head for The Cape Horn Loop Trail and to The Ozone climbing wall. We are located within the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The SpaceTHE VIEW! A sprawling view of the Gorge is laid out before you. From every window there is a view of Multnomah falls, the Cascade mountains, and the Columbia river. Guest AccessThis guest quarters is the downstairs level of the house, which includes 2 private bedrooms, a full bathroom, and a family room with a kitchenette (some describe it as a 'Mother-in-law quarters'). Access to the level is through the main entrance on the main floor. We live upstairs in the house, and access is similar to what you would encounter with a BnB or guest rooms. We do allow guests to use the main floor laundry room, And allow access to our rec room, and the main floor kitchen as well. Interaction with GuestsWe do live upstairs so you might see us when you are coming and going. We are very easy-going and very quiet. We are very respectful of privacy and leave it up to the guests to determine how much interaction there will be. Some guests will stay to themselves, some will use the rec room on the main floor, and some will even use the main floor kitchen. The NeighborhoodLocated in a small community of about 20 homes nestled between Washington's scenic route 14 and the Columbia River. This area of the Gorge is considered to be the most beautiful, yet is still fairly close to the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan areas. This relatively overlooked area, known to the locals as "The sunny side of the Gorge", is quickly becoming the most desirable due to its location, views, recreational facilities, and the fact that it is South-facing which increases the amount of sun and length of the days, This community is peculiar in the fact that it even exists here in the Scenic area. It would not be allowed to be built today! Getting AroundThe Portland airport (PDX) is only 25 minutes away. Parking is right in front of the house. If you must use public transportation there is a park-and-ride about a mile up the road where you can catch a bus that will take you into town.

The SpaceOur home is large, open and comfortable and we love to have responsible visitors! We are literally over the river and through the woods from PDX and Portland, OR, and situated at the top of a hill in the Columbia River Gorge area. One room looks out to our little red barn on pasture, the other looks out over the valley toward the twinkling lights of Portland and to the Silver Star Mountains. It's peaceful here and the air is fresh and clean. We have a cozy queen bed in our Chambre Le Jardin and a spacious, comfortable king bed in the Chambre La Mer. We also have a double futon downstairs which, for larger parties, you're welcome to use for a small additional fee. The bathroom by this room, while functional with a shower, sink, and toilet, is still unfinished, so again, while utilitarian, it is not tiled yet, however in the middle of the night, it is convenient. If you wish, you may simply go up and use the bathroom at the top of the stairs. As for things to do: For MTBers (mountain bikers), there is a lush logging road you can use that can take you as far as you want to go and there's plenty of single track nearby. Mount Saint Helens, Mount Hood, Mount Washington, Mirror Lake etc., are not far. Hikers and trail runners, we've got Cape Horn Trail three miles down the road, Beacon Rock State Park is a quick ten miles from here, and over the Bridge of the Gods is Multnomah Falls, Horsetail Falls, and so much more! Or head into Portland, to Forest Park, and run or hike the fabulous and incredibly beautiful Wildwood Trail. Nothing beats it and it's my personal favorite for trail running. I've got a book here for local/Portland hikes that list all you want in varying degrees of difficulty. Road riders, your options are pretty much limitless. You can head out from here and count on thigh-burning grades all over the place. Kite and wind surfers, world-class winds await you 39 miles away in Hood River, OR. That, and the cute town itself. Closer to here, just 20 or so miles away, in the smaller Columbia cove of Carson, is also great kite and wind surfing. Rock climbers, from here, turn left off Salmon Falls Road heading down W-14, about 10 miles from here, Beacon Rock has an awesome vertical wall, or turn right onto W-14 off Salmon Falls and go three miles down, you'll find Ozone Wall. Skiers, Mount Hood awaits, Motocross peeps, we've got the Washougal MX Park right here! Antique explorers, head into Portland to Selwood for a cornucopia of vintage goodies, power shoppers, head across the river too, for big tax-free shopping. Motorcycle clubs, there are stunning rides in any direction! Guest AccessFeel free to relax in our living room, dining room, and please use our kitchen. We simply ask that you respect our things and our privacy, and tidy up after yourselves. Our bedroom is on the third floor and is off limits. Firearms are not permitted in our home but feel free to lock them in your vehicle across the street. Except for bona fide trained Service Animals, pets/animals (please, no "comfort animals") are not permitted in the house. They may, however, sleep in the barn. Horses are welcome at additional cost. We have varmints, critters and other wildlife up here so the barn would need to be closed at night when your animals are sleeping. Coyotes howl at times during the night, and we have bear, a rare mountain lion, elk, deer, and rabbits. No rattle snakes here but we do have small garter snakes that come out when it's warm. Interaction with GuestsSince our home has an open floor plan and we will be here during your stay, we will be sharing our home and space with you. Still, we will do our best to stay out of your way during your visit with us and when you're socializing in the living or dining room, unless invited to join you, we will of course respect your space. I enjoy entertaining and developing wonderful friendships with people from all over the country and planet. When you arrive I will ask you if you would like to have a dinner gathering at our dining table. Please do not feel obligated to say yes! I will simply invite you and the option will be entirely yours! :-) The NeighborhoodQuiet, pretty, green, and de-stressing. :-) Getting AroundYou'll need a car here. If you've brought your bikes or motorcycles, leave your car and ride like the wind! Parking is complimentary. Other Things to NoteWe have lots of books and board games, so please feel free to enjoy them! For industrious youngsters, I have Legos. If you are traveling with little ones, with advance notice I will be happy to look after them so you can enjoy a day or evening out. $25.00/hour.

Amenities at Eva's Cottage also include toiletries, firewood, and dog towels/cleanup kit. If you need entertainment beyond watching the deer grazing nearby, you'll find internet TV (there is no other TV reception; the trees are so large they block line of sight to satellites) in greatroom, a TV/DVD/stereo in the bedroom, lots of games and books. Read about the fascinating woman who created this little slice of heaven which bears her name! Eva's Cottage sits just a few steps from our sandy beach, down a sloping path. It is an idyllic location with many eagles, heron, hawks, and deer, a large 20' deep swimming hole and year-round waterfall. The land surrounding the Cottage and across the river is private and protected. The temperate climate is never too hot or too cold. [Note: beach is shared by residents of nearby home, but they are quiet and respectful of our guests. Please note also that beach fires and fishing from the beach are not allowed (there is great fishing just 1/2 mile downriver, on the other side of the Salmon Falls bridge).] This 28.5 acre retreat includes a large and rare stand of old-growth Douglas fir, Western cedar, hemlock and maple; some of which are estimated to be more than 300 years old. Eva's descendants steward the land and maintain the forest with an eye to future generations' enjoyment. A good supermarket, drugstore, and other services are about 14 miles away in the town of Washougal. The location provides easy, year-round access to hiking, boating, fishing, skiing and more. The Washougal is one of only two completely unpolluted rivers in the region. It offers fine fishing, whitewater rafting, canoeing and kayaking as it flows into the mighty Columbia River just a few miles to the south. The SpaceOur apartment is a clean and uncluttered upstairs space that has it's own private side door entrance. While it is still attached to our home (the downstairs level) you will hardly hear anything from us as we tend to keep pretty quiet. The upstairs studio is just the right size for two people to get away. The studio is fully furnished with a firm, brand new, king sized bed, plush duvet, TV, love seat, and an over sized chair. There is also a small kitchenette space with with a table for two and a private bathroom with a shower tub. There are windows on every wall, providing excellent natural light and beautiful views. Every window is also adorned with energy efficient blackout curtains, so feel free to wake up with the sun, or pull the shades and catch up on some extra Zz's. Guest AccessThe upstairs studio has a private entryway on the side of our house. The entry way stairs are rather steep, so please consider if that might be an issue for you physically. In the studio there is a kitchenette through which you'll have access to a mini fridge, coffee pot, hot water heater, and a microwave. There is complimentary tea, coffee & bottled water. There is a full set of dishes available for in-house meals including brand new wine glasses. Any dishes you need cleaned can be left by the downstairs door and we will take care of them for you, no problem. The private en suite bathroom is furnished with towels, cabinets and medicine cabinet for storing toiletries, and a spacious shower/tub. There is a separate water heater for the upstairs unit, so you won't need to compete with us downstairs over hot water. Any missing toiletries can be made available upon request if forgotten, just let us know. The two living spaces, (the upstairs studio and our downstairs home) are connected by a door which will remain locked unless otherwise requested. Other services downstairs are available upon request: use of our full kitchen and/or our laundry room. These services are available pending our personal availability, and if we think you're mostly nice.. ;) The wood deck housing the studio entrance also leads to a brick paved side yard where our hot tub is privately located. The hot tub stays at a high temperatures and has full functioning jets and colored lights for evening relaxation. Guest's will have access to the hot tub whenever they like. If guests would like to reserve the hot tub for private use, please just let us know and we will make sure to accommodate, as we like to use it ourselves sometimes. Interaction with GuestsFrom no interaction, to sharing a meal together; it is up to you. The upstairs space is entirely separate and private from the rest of the house downstairs, except for when you would like to interact with us. To those who like animals, we have a rowdy Australian shepherd and a abnormally snugly cat. You're welcome to enjoy either of them, or not interact with them at all. Allergies should not be an issue as our creatures are not allowed upstairs. The NeighborhoodCorbett is one of the smallest towns East of Portland. It is really a treat for those who enjoy the countryside pace, but still want to access and explore the city of Portland; that's why we live here. We live just down the street from the Corbett public schools, and have several friendly neighbors who are respectful of privacy. There's on foot access from our house to the sports areas at the school, as well as a small park where we like to take out our dog. To top it off, we are a 10 minute drive from the Sandy River Delta (also known as 1000 acres by locals, as it is the dog park Mecca of Portland). I-84 is literally a 4 minute drive from the studio, but you'd never know it from the country feel of Corbett. Being so close to I-84 offers incredible ease at getting around which we both appreciate, since we both commute to/through downtown Portland for work. We often have shorter commute times than friends who live a closer distance from town but have more traffic to compete with. Here is a list of popular locations & commute times by car from our studio: -Vista House, 7 minutes -McMenamins Edgefield Restaurant & Concert Venue, 12 minutes -Multnomah Falls, 15 minutes -PDX Airport, 20 minutes -Downtown Portland, 25 minutes -Skamania Lodge, 30 minutes -Hood River, 45 minutes -Mt Hood/Timberline Lodge, 1 hour Yes we're not located in the Portland city limits, but I am convinced this is one of the best ways to stay if you're planning on using a car to get around. Getting AroundYou will need to have access to a car to be able to stay in our studio, as Corbett sits just East of Troutdale (where all of Portland's public transportation stops). That being said, if you are into road biking, this is one of the top highway destination spots in Oregon to road bike in the spring and summer months. Other Things to NoteIn the winter it can get cold and sometimes especially windy in Corbett as we are on the heights of the Columbia River Gorge. When it does get especially cold please keep the electric wall heaters on at all times to ensure the room temperature stays cozy. We allow guest pets on a case to case basis. Please just get in contact with us about your pet to see if it can work out. We hope that most of the time it can.
