The SpaceThis place is a one of a kind find. The church is a 1790 Methodist meeting place, re-purposed as a Masonic Temple for long decades, and now an eclectic home and temple to the arts. The side and back are given to a working sculpture studio, from where work is produced and installed everywhere from LA to Jeongdongjin, South Korea. There is visual art everywhere you turn. The interior is pseudo rustic, with some pine board and some plywood floor. The half-finished walls have a European loft feel that only an artist could love. I have two fold-out futons on wooden frames downstairs, queen sized, and a queen bed up in the choir loft, with a private tiny bath. Full tub and shower bathroom is on the main floor. Guest AccessThe entire home and riverfront is yours. Interaction with GuestsI try to be there to greet you, and I am available by phone. Other than that, the place is yours. The NeighborhoodThe church is in the Berkshires, for a start, a sleepy, old mountain range. It is magical here. For super close by activities, the church is 3 miles away from Clarke outdoors. They are a great company for river adventures. There is a Cinerom 15 miles away if you want to take in a movie. The Cornwall Inn is 2.5 miles away, with fantastic food. The town of Cornwall Bridge is a sleepy, slow-paced, beautiful destination. There is a stunning covered bridge nearby, artisan shopping, a general store, and perhaps our most abundant offering, beautiful, unspoiled nature. According to Wikitravel: "Be sure to take advantage of the Housatonic River. You can rent kayaks, canoes, and raft to float on down the river from Clarke Outdoors, located between Cornwall Bridge and West Cornwall on Rt. 7. They will drop you off and pick you up to bring you back to your car. The Housatonic River in Cornwall is a fly-fishing hot spot. You can get set up to fly fish in Cornwall Bridge at Housatonic Outiftters." Getting AroundThere is a train from Grand Central to Wassaic, NY, and local cab services are available. Other Things to NoteOne of the sculptures on the property weighs 15 tons. There's also a re-purposed grain silo.

Our home is a 1790s Federal Colonial located in the heart of Litchfield County. Vineyards, Mohawk ski resort, a covered bridge, lakes, antique shops, art galleries and wonderful restaurants are nearby. A bison farm is across the street, and we provide WiFi, board games and cable. Since this is our home, WiFi/cable/linens/cookware/other necessities come with this rental. Although the house has 6 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, we try to contain wear and tear, so please see the occupant limit below. As reflected in the pictures, there is an eat-in kitchen, dining room, living room, study, library, upstairs social room and outdoor screened patio. Every visitor marvels at the amount of space and the way in which the layout enables privacy if two separate adult couples will be using the home. This is the ideal, inexpensive weekend get-away for someone who loves rustic charm, values space and is looking for relaxation. Although we do our best to well-maintain our home, it was built centuries ago so unexpected snafus may occur (and our rental is priced accordingly). If you are looking for a modern home with dishwasher, A/C, stainless steel appliances, etc, this is not the place for you. The Wassaic MetroNorth train station is about 20 minutes away, and it takes less than two hours to reach our home from NYC (1.5 hours from Greenwich).
