The SpaceCoromandel Bay-view experience is a sunny, cliff-top bungalow with two double bedrooms, an open plan living area, two decks, and a newly renovated bathroom. It's located on a peninsula overlooking two bays and the Pacific Ocean. Watch the sun set over distant islands and enjoy NZ nature at its best. For those driving, there is ample parking for the car and it is located only a short drive (5 minutes) along gorgeous coast line to historic Coromandel Township. Close by is Wyuna Bay, which is a lovely swimming spot at the end of the road, or take a walk to the Long Bay Beach (about 40 minutes). For those wanting to shamelessly chill, we have a growing library of DVD's and books, wireless internet, a gas bbq, and a Breville infuser coffee maker. The kitchen is well equipped and chef friendly with a herb and spice rack to get creative with. Kick back, relax and enjoy the ever changing views! Guest AccessOur super friendly and knowledgable property manager, Rhonda, has an office in Coromandel Town; organizes the key pick up and drop off and is on call to help. We also have a lock box where the key is kept securely at the property for those who would rather go directly to the house. Upon arrival, there is a folder that explains different aspects of the house and has tons of ideas of what to do in town and further afield. Interaction with GuestsPete and I are on hand to help with any questions, and Rhonda and Kylie have a wealth of local knowledge. The NeighborhoodExplore the old gold mining town of Coromandel and take part in any number of activities nearby including: fishing tours, kayak adventures, bush walks and hikes, mussel barge snapper safaris, sail charters, kayak fishing and the famous driving creek railway - an open train ride through gorgeous rain forest. The train stops at a spectacular view point where you can look across the peninsula. Kids will love Water Works which is a quirky theme park with fun water gadgets and inventions to play with. Visit award-winning restaurants (such as the Pepper Tree) and great cafes in the township. Umu is a perfect breakfast/brunch spot, and it is not uncommon to see people helicopter in to the famous Mussel Kitchen for lunch or dinner in summer. The Driving Creek Cafe is also a great spot to have brunch or lunch. For adventurers looking to explore further afield, the location is a great base for checking out both the northern and eastern side of the peninsula. To the North, New Chum's Beach (15 km away), was voted one of the top 20 deserted beaches in the world by The Observer, and highly rated by the Lonely Planet and National Geographic. Favorite tourist spots on the east coast include Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove Marine Reserve (featured in rapper Macklemore's music video). Or relax and unwind at a natural geothermal spa and springs near Whitianga. The east coast is also home to some of New Zealand's most pristine, white sand beaches, and a popular holiday destination for New Zealanders. To get to Coromandel Town from the airport or from Auckland city, there are a number of options: The fastest option is to fly with Flystark - $175 NZ per person (minimum 2 people). It takes only 20 minutes from Auckland International Airport. You can also catch the ferry from Auckland city with the company 360 Discovery Cruises. It takes 2 hours. A free bus will pick you up from the wharf in Coromandel and take you in to town. There are also shuttle vans that come to Coromandel Town - The company is called Go Kiwi. It takes 3 hours. Finally there is a bus company called Intercity. It takes 4.5 hours (with a stopover in Thames). Intercity also goes to other parts of NZ from Coromandel Town, such as Whitianga, Thames, Rotorua etc. Once in the town, the information center in Coromandel Town can help arrange tours and transportation to areas on the peninsula. A rental car facility is also located in the township and at Auckland airport. It is quite possible to get around without a car (as we do) - by walking and calling a taxi every now and then! But adventurers may want to hire a car. Please note that we have a two-day minimum stay in January. We strongly advise early bookings for December and January as bookings start coming in as early as February. We also have a minimum two day stay for weekends in February. However, for those wishing to stay only one night we can organize a slightly higher price to cover extra cleaning and linen costs. If it's a special day for one of your favorite people and you would like to arrange flowers/cake etc, please let us know. Our property manager may be able to organize something! Small children must be supervised at all times outdoors and on both decks. 私の家に興味を持ってくれてありがとう。 日本語での対応が可能ですので、些細なことでも遠慮せずにメールしてください。 お待ちしています。 Getting AroundTo get to Coromandel Town from the airport or from Auckland city, there are shuttle vans that come to Coromandel Town - The company is called Go Kiwi. The SpaceThe Coromandel Pilgrimage, New Zealand Coromandel is considered one of the most beautiful regions of in all of New Zealand - a stunning peninsula that is only a 2 hour drive from Auckland, all on good roads. You can also take the Catamaran from Auckland, Pier 4, 139 Quay Street, (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) (a two hour ride on Discovery 360-- But you will need a car in Coromandel if you plan to stay for more than 3 days, our minimum. Driving from Auckland, you start out on the M1 highway and then turn off the M1 where the sign points to Coromandel. It is that simple, so simple you barely need a map. Road signs will continue to lead you to Coromandel, the peninsula, then the town. It couldn’t be easier. But drive carefully, even on roads far less crowded than over here. The views will be stunning once you turn off. Remember, like Hawaii, New Zealand has no industry and bounteous farm land. At the base of the Coromandel Peninsula you pass the town of Thames, then once through Thames you will be hugging the coastal highway—a stunning 40 minute drive along the Coromandel Peninsula. The coastal road is only ten feet above the Hauraki Gulf as it passes coastal towns hugging the steep green rising hillsides, houses bunched together in tufts of precious land. Finally the coastal road ascends a rising hill and descends into a wide plateau of natural beauty that is reminiscent of LOST HORIZONS. You pass pristine farms, and new vineyards. At the end of the plateau, you have a final climb and then descend into an expanse of rare flat land with a generous shoreline. That is Coromandel Town with its quiet pristine coves on Hauraki Bay, subtropical weather, boating, fishing, bracketed by rising hills around it. The main coastal road (now called Tiki Road) will enter Kapanga Road, the main street of Coromandel Town. Take a right and park within a block. Coromandel Haven: The Rental House “Coromandel Haven,” as the house is called, is a well-built classic English style New Zealand farm house made of hard New Zealand Kauri and Remu wood and is one of the few residences along the golf course road—a three minute walk to the golf course, a seven minute walk to the Bay. There is a sizeable parking area on the property through a rear gate, great for boat owners. Recently, two brand new heat pump/air conditioners were installed in the house giving total temperature control throughout the house, summer or winter. The house is in an upscale Coromandel neighborhood with a generous garden on one acre hidden from view of distant neighbors. This Holiday Home is surrounded by rare and protected native Rimu and Kauri trees on the property, including a giant Rimu tree overshadowing the house. It has a BBQ area set in native bush. The house has two bedrooms with queen size beds, a separate dining room, a complete kitchen, and a large den/living room with a New high definition Panasonic 39 inch LCD TV, with sky TV dish and a home theater system also including 2Degrees Wi-Fi Broadband Internet access. Amenities also include landline telephone, LPG gas stove and imported Tempurpedic mattress on the master bed. There is a bookshelf of books and over thirty DVDs to look at. There is a separate shed with washer and dryer. The bathroom has a tub and state of the art shower with a British twelve inch shower head from England, creating a virtual waterfall. There is also a nice outside patio table and chairs with a barbecue close by. Ample parking in the rear can accommodate boats. The garden has a range of natural views of the Coromandel hills and surrounding nature, the Bay only a two minute drive away. There are instructions posted for operating the home theater system, watching DVDs as well as operating the Sky Digital satellite TV. If you have CDs, you can play surround sound music. Coromandel town is half a mile down the road. Explore the town, explore the coastal inlets then drive over the peninsula to the Pacific side and you will see a beach right out of Maui Hawaii with very broad, fine white sand framed by turquoise water, Whangapoa Beach--a short 13 kilometer drive from town. A ten minute drive can save you from paying three times as much for far less elegant houses. The summer season in New Zealand goes from early December through March. April and May are early fall and are quite pleasant. During the New Zealand summer, the temperature range is from the mid-70s into the mid-80s. It is warmer than Berkeley in the summer and the nights are pleasant. Both Coromandel and Auckland are at the mid point of New Zealand’s North Island (farther from the South Pole than the South Island). Indeed, Auckland and Coromandel are on the cusp of subtropical weather. The farther North you go, the warmer it is and there are palm trees, papaya, bananas, and avocados. You will see palm trees in the garden or Coromandel Haven as well as native guavas, mandarin oranges and a delicious local fruit. The people of New Zealand are like Americans were in the 1950s—polite, true to their word and unpretentious. Though New Zealand has the land mass of California on its two islands, it has less than 1/20th the population, a much lower people density. You feel less crowded. The air is clean, the water is clean, and the food is pure and tastes great. It is a welcome change from our overbuilt cities. When a region's natural vistas and pristine beauty are enhanced and reflected in the temperament of those who live in the land—by an easy going optimism, an innocence and tranquility of heart—the combination can be overwhelming to those of us from jaded high-pressure/high-stress societies where social interactions are sufficiently adversarial for us to keep our defense shields up most of the time. The traveler notices, in an atmosphere of calm peaceful silence, the sudden absence of that aggressive cynicism and sarcasm that come as a natural reflex in the home culture. What a nice change. You will find yourself smiling more than you have in a long time. You bet it’s worth it. About the Owner Annually, the owner is at his house from Mid February until Mid April. Robert T. Brooke, went to New Zealand looking for an affordable future residence to write books. He was stunned the moment he saw the house after having spent over a month searching. He was in Coromandel simply to see the famous region. Disliking winter, he is usually at the house two and a half months from Mid February to Mid April, winter for the rest of the world. His novel on Amazon, Return of The Giants, was written in large part there at Coromandel Haven-- The best time to consider coming is early December through May. To share the bounty, climb aboard. Working out dates for visits can be done on the web page below and the information is sent to the property manager and owner. It is that simple. I am a published author who is here seasonally. And the property will be open year round. It is high end, near the golf course far from the cookie-cutter houses. This is an original New Zealand farm with lots of land and privacy. As an author I need that and so will many renters. Taxi rental but car rentals are even better. One can also ride bikes in the New Zealand summer. Cleanup Fee is NZ$ 100. Enjoy the bounty of this blessed land. Guest AccessNearby access: Beaches on the nearby South Pacific, also the nearer Hauracki Gulf with Mussel Farms and fishing, incredible nature drives on the Peninsula. Gotta see it to appreciate it. Interaction with GuestsI am not present when it is rented. I am usually here mid February, March and April. As an author I greatly appreciate personal privacy and freedom. I have so far written a novel here entitled RETURN OF THE GIANTS, available on (URL HIDDEN) The NeighborhoodThe pristine beauty and property size is unbeatable in the area Getting AroundA rental car is the way to go and there is ample parking in the rear.
