The host is available in house above and may be able to help with specific requirements. It is a great base from which to explore the area as well as a beautiful and peaceful place to relax for a few days in a busy schedule. It is best suited to those with their own transport. Parking is on the street but safe as it is a small no exit street with little traffic.
For those without transport there is a regular bus service 20 mins walk away from Lyttelton to town and a less frequent bus from 5 mins down the hill. These buses go to the central bus exchange where you can transfer to busses to the airport - or anywhere. Shuttles from the airport can cost over $60 and will take time dropping others off en route. Taxis will not be much more and are worth it for 2 or more people. Interaction with GuestsYou will be the only guests. Your hosts will be available when home, and contactable by phone or email at other times. The NeighborhoodThe space is located on a no exit road in a quiet beach suburb on Lyttelton harbor. It is friendly and safe.
There are excellent walking tracks around the waterfront from Corsair Bay just 5 minutes walk down the hill. The bay is a cosy cove with sand and shell beach good for cooling down in summer and flat water swimming. It is a popular picnic spot for locals.
Lyttelton, the port town for Christchurch is a pleasant 20 min walk or 5 minutes drive away. There is a weekly market on Saturdays 9am-1pm plus several cafés and restaurants, galleries and a small selection of shops including pharmacy, supermarket, post office and gift shops. The information centre at 20 Oxford St is open daily from 10am - 4pm and can provide you with information on the history of the area, things to do and special events. It is 5 minutes walk down to the pretty swimming bay with walking tracks but more like 10 minutes to get back up.
Lyttelton in a small characterful town 20 mins walk or 5 mins drive away. Christchurch central is 15-20 minutes drive through the road tunnel - or a little longer via a scenic drive over the hill.
The bus (Number 28) goes every 20-30 mins from Lyttelton and a less frequent bus goes from 5 mins walk down the hill. This connects with airport buses. Airport shuttles will also collect you from here. Other Things to NoteThe wireless internet that is shared with house occupants and copes with most needs but varies and access can be limited at high use times for the area. No fiber or ultra-fast broadband here yet. It will not suit you if you have high internet requirements such as working on line or if you like to do large downloads or uploads. The is free internet at the Lyttelton library and internet cafes nearby.
