The SpaceThe space feels tucked away and off the beaten path, in a garden setting, though you are only minutes from San Francisco. It is large for two people, with room to have a few friends over for a drink before going out for the evening. Families use the fold out couch (comfortable queen sized mattress, American Leather brand, new) while the kids sleep in the bedroom. The kitchen has everything you need to cook at home and eat in.
The entry is reached through a path beside the garage and down the stairs. Guest AccessYou will have your own fenced in yard, a full bath, separate entry, new kitchen with full size appliances. Your door is on a key pad - we will give you your own 4 digit code so you don't have to worry about keeping track of a key.
No access to the rest of the house. Interaction with GuestsNo contact except when needed. Come and go as you please.
We are a family of 3 and you will probably be aware when we are home, but the apartment and the rest of the house fell very separate. The NeighborhoodThe house is in the older, hobbit-village type hillside neighborhood of Corte Madera called "Christmas Tree Hill" located in the heart of Marin County with beaches, boating, hiking, ancient redwood forests, the Golden Gate Bridge, world-class food and entertainment. Golden Gate Transit stop is two blocks away. If you like to walk, you are within a mile of everything (a dozen restaurants, movie house, park, churches, post office, hairdressers, dry cleaner, libraries, etc.) A car is recommended for seeing the sights in and around Marin, Sonoma and Napa. The hiking from the top of Christmas Tree Hill to Mill Valley offers world class views. The beach is a 40 minute drive over Mount Tam. Corte Madera has the best weather in the area and is outside of the San Francisco/Mill Valley fog belt. Getting Around21 minute drive to San Francisco, Marina neighborhood.
A quarter mile walk to Old Corte Madera Town Square with restaurants, barber, salons, bar and retail. Everything you could want within a mile of the house, including Marin's best dive bar: The Silver Peso, and our family's go-to restaurant, The Left Bank.
Ferries connect Marin County to downtown San Francisco.
Public transit is available but you will probably want a car. We provide parking on site. Other Things to NoteIf you have limited mobility, the coming and going may be awkward, especially at night, due to the outdoor stairs. The beds are twin beds. Feel free to push them together to make a king sized sleeping space. The couch (brand new, American Leather brand) folds out into a comfortable queen sized bed. Super apartment for two adults, and can accommodate a couple with two kids as well. Your well-behaved dog is welcome; your private yard is completely fenced. We have two dogs (one big, one small) that do not go in the apartment - ever - even if they beg! Guests say the unit and garden feel very private and secluded. Several guests have extended their stay because they feel so "at home" here due to the peaceful vibe.
