The SpaceTurn onto a long country driveway, down the lane through an open farm field, up through a stretch of trees and you'll arrive at this picturesque log cabin set on 18 private acres.
As you look out over the Esopus Creek that borders the property from the big covered porch, you'll feel like you're a million miles from it all. Yet you're in convenient proximity to everything you'd want: 5 minutes to Stone Ridge, 10 minutes to High Falls (and its great swimming hole), 12 minutes to Kingston and the NYS Thruway, 20 minutes to Woodstock, a couple of miles from Davenport Farm Stand and antique shops, 45-hour from the ski slopes, and much more.
But you're likely to find that you want to do nothing more than stay on the property.
The house has a spacious open floor plan with living room, dining room, and kitchen together -- with 20 ft. vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and hardwood floors throughout. It's a great communal space. There's a large wood-burning fireplace. If the big couch and fur-lined lounge chairs don't consume you, the large, fluffy rug and floor pillows are perfect for cozying up by the fire for games and hangs. There's a high-end sound system with Bluetooth and a cinematic projector with 7 ft. screen that drops down over the fireplace for watching movies on the big screen (and a ~100-DVD collection).
The kitchen has a pro-style gas range and high-powered hood, lots of granite counter space, and a large island with bar stools. You'll find everything you need, including cookware, bakeware, good knives, mixer, blender, serving dishes, barware, dishwasher, and more. Plus there's a large BBQ grill right off the kitchen. The large teak dining table seats eight with plenty of room to spread out.
There are three large, comfortable bedrooms, one with a king bed upstairs and two downstairs: one with a queen bed and one with a twin-over-full bunk bed. Each bedroom has its own full bathroom. With each bed space occupied, the house sleeps seven. Great for just a couple too!
The large porch off the main room looks out over the expansive backyard and Esopus Creek (good for gazing and fishing; not for swimming given the depth), complete with creekside gazebo and hammock. The porch has an eight-person table and a couple of lounge chairs. With the leaves off the trees, you have a great view of the creek and a thousand acres of farmland and mountain range across. The (unfinished) basement has a ping pong table, washer, dryer, and walk-out access to the backyard. Take out the binoculars and you're likely to see many bird species, deer, beavers, turkeys, and more. And feel free to explore the paths around the property.
The house is in the town of Marbletown but has a Kingston postal address.
I'm happy to answer any questions you may have. Guest AccessYou'll receive a door code for access, so you can arrive whenever you like! Interaction with GuestsYou'll have the property completely to yourself. I'm available to answer questions and provide recommendations. A local caretaker is also available to stop by in person if need be. Getting AroundBy car, the house is 12 minutes from Exit 19 off the NYS Thruway. The Trailways bus stop in Kingston is also 12 minutes away. Other Things to NotePlease note that there is a hot tub at the house that is *not* included with the rental.
The wifi is via satellite and thus slowwww. It's perfectly fine for texts and email, but not good with heavy data streaming like video (which is disabled). Music streaming generally works fine, however.
Cellphone reception is spotty. However, there is a landline.
For the summer: there are air conditioning units in two of the three bedrooms, but not in the main room (living room / kitchen / dining). Breeze and ceiling fans generally do the trick.
