WELCOME to the "Jewel of Sugar Creek", 4 miles from town. Yountsville Mill-Inn & Garden on the banks of Sugar Creek is a very special destination. Celebrate a special event, a marriage, an anniversary, to meet old friends, and enjoy history and art. We recommend a two night stay to take in the local sights, or a sporting or arts/concert event at Wabash College. We can arrange for you to dine at the Crawfordsville Country Club for an outstanding lunch or dinner. Enjoy the music of pianist Alan White and visit the studio of accomplished artist, painter, and glass art designer Barbara Brookie White.
Several mills thrived along the many creeks and rivers in the early 1800’s but Daniel Yount’s Woolen Mill is the only textile mill that has survived and continues to stand along Sugar Creek. Located just 4 miles west of Crawfordsville, the B & B is in a safe quiet setting with gardens, woods, and many song birds, hawks, Great Blue Heron, and Eagles. The INN is a beautiful example of Federal Style architecture in 1851. Simple, in keeping with Daniel Yount's Quaker faith but with good proportions, solid thick brick walls and deep window sills. The Inn served as the boarding house for women who lived too far away to travel to work each day and The Yount family lived in half of the house. Registered guests are given a tour of the Mill and property with the creeks, fossils, and wooded trails.
Mills were extremely important to the lives of the early settlers and the development of the country but most of them have been lost. It is time to help the surviving mills with your support. We are members of Spoom.org. All income from the B & B and the Vacation Cottage (weekly rental) go toward the ongoing maintenance of the Yount's Woolen Mill & Inn, Yountsville, IN.
The Mill & INN are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Inn is a private residence which we share with Bed & Breakfast guests ( by reservation only). Many decorating objects reflect it’s history in spinning, weaving, needle arts such as samplers and quilts which are on display in the hallways and guest rooms. The decorating theme covers a broad range of decorative arts from Queen Anne period to the latest in contemporary design. Throughout the years of every family home, the decor changes and the “new” melds in with favorite pieces of the past. We would not enjoy being locked into one period from the past and we believe that history continues with the addition of the best from each period and each new generation. The Yountsville Mill & Inn are part of the country road route to Parke County covered bridge festival, Rockville festivals, State Parks, and antique auctions that are so prevalent around Crawfordsville. As you near Sugar Creek the countryside is a mixture of farm land, cattle and horses farms. It is gently rolling as you near the Sugar Creek valley which was formed by glaciers during the Mississippian period, 350,000,000 years ago, leaving beautiful limestone cliffs, ravines, spring fed creeks, and waterfalls. The Crawfordsville creeks are famous for the Cranoid fossils that were living underwater sea creatures. The woodlands support an amazing variety of wildflowers in April thru May, hardwood trees which are most noteable for the magnicifant Scyamores, Pawpaw trees that host the Tiger Swallowtail butterfly, Eagles, Great Blue Heron, wild turkeys, fox, and song birds: blue birds to wood peckers. As you turn off St Rd 32 onto W. Old Mill Rd, a sense of peace comes over you as you leave a busy world behind. The Yount's Mill drive is lined with London Plane Trees and daylilies, formal boxwood borders filled with English style flower beds that change with the season. You will drive through a large brick entrance along the lilac hedge to park near the Inn. Parterres line the courtyard to the front door and when you have checked in you are welcome to enjoy the gardens and hike the nature trails in this 23 acre bit of Heaven.
4 miles east of Yountsville are grocery stores, movie, restaurants, sports bars, downtown Crawfordsville, car rental, Wabash College, museums, and antiques. Turkey Run State park with restaurant is 24 miles, Shades St Park is 12 miles. The Amish summer wholesale Plant and Produce auction is near Turkey Run. A public golf course is about 5 miles ( Crawfordsville ). Lafayette is 30 miles north. Yountsville is the perfect location, central to many cities and a natural destination for friends to meet and enjoy a few days together. See The Vacation Cottage for families.
