The SpaceOur space is unique in many ways. We hand built our main building, a straw bale home and designed all the spaces which are always in progress, to be used by community for retreats, gardening, family friendly and camper friendly. We have lived communally for well over two decades. Our 'Gypsy' camper is special to us, we want to share her space and comfort, as well as being affordable she is tucked under a pine tree for shade and is simple living...There is a hammock outside the door and a sky chair next to the garden. A small fire bowl is also used for that camping ambiance! She is best suited for guests of one or two (couple). No pets or children here (URL HIDDEN) the future we will have more accommodations for families! Guest AccessAll guests are welcome into main house during the hours form 9am to 5pm, to shower or do laundry. During peak gardening season you are also welcome to harvest your own greens and vegetables! Cooking can be communal at times, but not always. There is a gas stove top in the camper which works fine and all basic cooking utensils are in there. A large refrigerator accommodates guests of one or two people for up to a weeks worth of food...A very small (URL HIDDEN) we do allow guests to use our larger freezer in the house if needed. The little camper bathroom is also basic. A toilet is flushed by gravity water fed by you, and simply no toilet paper or anything but your waste goes down there! The dining table and benches are comfortable and large closet can fit almost my entire wardrobe! It is cozy, clean and affordable! "In August 2013, I had the opportunity to attend a training and stay on Zuki Abbott-Zamora’s land. Having never been to Colorado, I could only dream up in my head what it would be like. Zuki’s land, located up in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range, is like the heartbeat of Mother Earth herself. Zuki & Nick are incredibly welcoming, including Zuki offering up some wise-woman advice for traveling there as the elevation is quite high and I live in an area that is below sea-level and the accommodations are fabulous! Couple that with Zuki’s fabulous cooking and you are in for a major treat. If you are looking for a place to really get back in touch with nature, relax, refresh, and renew while feeling nurtured, I highly recommend checking out Zuki’s place in Cretone, Colorado". ~Bridget Di Luzio Priestess & Birth Professional Townsend, Delaware Interaction with GuestsDepending on our guests needs, we can be available if needed or respectful of space and leave them alone. Like I mentioned previously we are used to living communally so if one is needing a retreat and needs space that is totally understandable. If one is here to explore and needs guidance that is also doable! It is up to the individual to express their own needs to us so we can fully create what is desired for the guest time here! The NeighborhoodWe live high in the mountains. The very few neighbors we have are very quiet and not noticeable from the property. We are tucked in a cul de sac with hills which gives it much privacy and seclusion. However we are close to town and not far from so many activities! At night when the sky is clear you can see an amazing amount of the galaxy around us. If you have a telescope bring it! There are no artificial lights near by and no street lights at all. Getting AroundLikely you have driven here or have taken a bus. We do offer a pick up and drop off plan with a small fee if needed. Otherwise it is walking or getting rides!

Other Things to NoteThere are three geo thermal hot springs within 30 - 60 minutes from town. The Sand Dunes Swimming pool is a MUST in my opinion. Crestone is named for the 14,000-foot peaks that lie just east of the town: Crestone Peak and Crestone Needle. The Crestones, as they are known collectively, in turn, took their name from the Spanish word crestón, which, according to Walter Borneman and Lyndon Lampert's book A Climbing Guide to Colorado’s Fourteeners, means: “the top of a cock’s comb”; “the crest of a helmet”; or, in miners’ jargon, “an outcropping of ore”. Getting AroundFlying Most people fly into Denver International Airport (DEN), which is a 4-1/4 hour drive from Crestone. You can also fly into Alamosa County Airport (ALA), which is a 1-hour drive to Crestone. Denver flights tend be less expensive, and involve fewer connections. Some people also choose to fly into Albuquerque, NM, a 5-hour drive to the south. Bus Service For the journey down to Crestone a great option is to take the bus. The SpaceThere is a Double Bed with superb mattress with 2" gel topper and a pull out Sleeper Sofa that sports a new, non-off-gassing latex mattress designed for sofas. This allows couples with a child or two friends traveling together to have their own comfy sleeping space. For additional personal space time there is a loft that offers a place to write, read or meditate. It has a wall light and little window for fresh air and a peek at the Sangres. There is a wonderful long south facing porch for summer sitting and sipping and even in the winter there are days you can sit out and be warmed by the sun. The kitchenette has a 2 burner hot plate with a countertop convection oven. There is an under the counter size fridge but no freezer shelf. Just about everything you would need to cook up a nice meal is provided. There's a blender, French press, cutting board/good knives, grater and GREEN LIFE non-stick, non-toxic cookware is provided. Though the operative word is "Retreat", there are many wonderful things to experience while living in the moment of such wonder. There are twenty five traditional spiritual lineages to discover. Among them are three Tibetan Buddhist Centers, two Zen Buddhist Centers, a Vedanta Center, a Carmelite Hermitage (whose 160 acres joins my property), a Sufi group, a well established Haidakhandi Asharm and even an Episcopalian and Baptist Church, for those with a more mainstream spiritual leaning. There is the Mercantile store in town (with a REAL butcher on staff) where you can pick up all your groceries. You have the option to cook in my superbly equipped kitchen with high-end cookware or you may want to just try the local cafes in town, only 2 miles from the house. The local, free-range Yak Burgers are stellar and your taste buds will welcome the experience. I also teach one on one cooking classes using my background in endocrinology and nutrition as the foundation. Of course, there is always the option to try out the 3 cafes in town. There is a two night minimum for weekends and a $35 cleaning fee. Many guests come for personal retreat time, to write or meditate/reflect. There is no telephone, radio or TV since this really is a time to distance oneself from such distractions and focus on the quiet, the moment, and the opportunity to experience such stunning beauty. Excellent wifi on site and iPhones get the best signal and Verizon is likely to give you any signal at all for other types of cell phones.. If you've not been to Crestone before, Arriving before dark is a Must. There are no street lights out here and if you don't have Verizon and it's after dark, then even smoke signals can't help you. Guest AccessOnce you reserve, I will try to meet you there to show you around if I'm in town. Interaction with GuestsIf in town, I can give you tips and directions to points of interest in the area. The other thing you should do is pick up the Crestone Eagle in town or check out the newspaper on line and check out the monthly events schedule. Getting AroundWhile a 4 wheel drive is not mandatory, it can be handy if there is a deep snow. We do have snow plows that pass through. The SpaceThe Haelan LifeStream Center is a beautiful health and eco-tourist rental located on 7 acres of private land in Crestone, Colorado. The rental domicile is a 1500 square foot luxury straw bale wall house which is totally off-grid, and is supplied efficiently by solar photo-voltaic and solar hot water systems. The alpine fed well water is exceptional, clean, and refreshing. This house is an ideal rental for 1 or 2 people. It can accommodate up to 3 people, and in such a case the inhabitants will need to practice energy conservation if there is a string of cloudy days; a rather rare occurrence. If you plan to travel to rent the Retreat Center in the winter months (November through April), please be aware of travel and road conditions which can be severe and extreme at this 8000 foot altitude. While the local roads are plowed well, travel to Crestone in the winter months without a 4 wheel drive vehicle is not advised. If your visit is planned for mid June through early August, please bring an insect repellent to help ward off mosquitoes which are present in these weeks of the year. If there is a string of cloudy days, then the propane generator may be required to assist the battery state-of-charge, and the hot water booster in the bathroom space will be needed to assist in raising the water temperature. Guests should be prepared for this aspect of living in an off-grid home if cloudy days prevail. The exterior of the straw bale wall is stucco covered, and the interior is local dirt clay adobe earthen plaster which lends a grounding, calming, and embracing quality to the indoor living experience. The grounds are beautifully landscaped for luxury and privacy, and can accommodate small private group functions, such as weddings, renewing of vows, dedication ceremonies, memorials, birthdays, and other similar intimate events. This embracing landscape is the most architecturally unique landscaping in Crestone, and enhances the already present magnificent vistas which surround the property. Dr. John R.M. Day, M.D. is the proprietor and has his office on the periphery of the grounds of the property. He conducts consultations with his clients in the afternoon hours. For more information about the Haelan LifeStream Center, including more photographs, and for a complete description of Dr. Day's medical services, please visit the Haelan LifeStream Center website. Guest AccessGuests have full access to all of the domicile space, its attached greenhouse, and all of the enclosed landscape space. Guests may also arrange for health and medical consultation with Dr. Day for any concerns they may wish to explore in the realms of body, mind, emotion, and spirit. Consultations would naturally include advice about diagnosed medical conditions. These consultations are offered as an available option for renters. Payment for consultative services is described on the Haelan LifeStream website. A separate structure on the grounds is the Casita which is used by Dr. Day for bioenergetic healing, and may also be used by guests who wish to arrange massage sessions with local massage therapists, or other types of local healers. I request that guests not go into the solar battery and inverter closet off of the foyer. Thank you. Interaction with GuestsDr. Day has minimal interaction with the guests unless they require assistance with the rental space, or unless they wish to consult with him for holistic or conventional medical concerns and advice. He visits his office space usually on a daily basis on weekdays, and sometimes on the weekend, in an unobtrusive fashion, and in respectful consideration of guests' privacy and retreat needs. The NeighborhoodThis neighborhood location is in Crestone's subdivision known as the Grants. This subdivision is down off of the Chalet I and II mountain slope neighborhoods, and is in the flat part of our community, which is stationed at 8000 feet. The SpaceThe Master suite has French doors that leads to private patio facing east,.. the ideal place to site in the mornings with a cup of chai or coffee and experience the rising sun over the Rocky Mtns. There is a walk-in closet but what really sets this beautiful suite off is the soaking tub with a massive window from which you can soak, sip wine and watch sunsets. The guest bedroom has a double bed rather than a queen. Cotton linens and a 3" gell topper makes it very comfy. I recently upgraded the wifi signal so it's now GREAT!!! within 200 ft of the house, anywhere in the house you can get an excellent signal for streaming or blogging or email. While the wifi is excellent the cell signals are iffy. Verizon works best as do iPhones. Beautifully appointed with art and tapestries and furniture from around the world, also offers excellent comfortable beds, Egyptian cotton linens and an isolation and quiet optimally conducive for writing, mediation, yoga, etc. While offering unique isolation, it is but a 5 mile drive into the remote hidden gem of a village, Crestone, where you will find galleries, excellent cafes, a genuine mercantile store, hardware store, credit union, post office and a unique museum where you can learn the history of this western town. The kitchen which has a gas stove, dishwasher, electric fridge, non-toxic cookware and a water filter that clears heavy metals/bacteria from well water. Washer/Dryer is in the hallway making living/staying here just so easy and convenient. Because of the VERY dry climate, there is a clothes line so all linens are sun dried.. While this may be a sabbatical for some guests in a time and place to just experience BEING, if you must DO, then you'll be pleased with all the options... stables for horseback riding, unsurpassed hiking at all levels of ability, unique architecture (there is probably more straw bale houses per capita than anywhere in the world, hot springs pool, etc.., etc. I'll tell you more once you are here. This is indeed a hidden gem so come and experience and enjoy vast space, quiet and unsurpassed beauty. Interaction with GuestsI am currently not living in Crestone but easily contacted via email or phone The Neighborhoodstables for horseback riding, unsurpassed hiking at all levels of ability, unique architecture (there is probably more straw bale houses per capita than anywhere in the world, hot springs pool, etc.., etc.
