The SpaceViews here that amaze even the locals, with some of the most vivid sunsets stretching across the bay to Mt Tamalpias and the entire Marin bay shore, where the waters of the Bay at times reflect the colors of the sky. Breathtaking! The variety of ships and boats makes an ever changing and fascinating parade going right by and you can also see the beautiful Carquinez Bridge, a large assortment of birds often below you, or hear an occasional seal barking. Guest AccessGuests have a comfortable room with excellent queen bed and their own private bath with tub and shower. House is kept warm and cozy in the winter and has AC for the few hot summer days. Usually the bay breeze keeps everything comfortable in the summer. There is a washer/dryer that can be used for a load or two, and a well equipped kitchen for making coffee and a little breakfast. Cable TV and Wifi are available. Interaction with GuestsUsually I will be close at hand should you need anything. Most of the time I will prepare a light breakfast for you, which can include fruit /vegetable juices from my NutriBullet. Vegan and gluten free options are available too.Can also provide you with excellent consierge service, my very good friend is possibly the best consierge in the Napa area, but also has a lot of knowledge about the City and all of the Bay Area. The NeighborhoodI have been in this neighborhood for many years. It is charming, friendly, and a little secluded. We have a great ambience and we are all a little protective of our neighbors and this very special place. I often envision the original Indian inhabitiants who would come here to the waters edge and look across this beautiful bay, the rolling hills, the incoming fog bank in the distance and think how special and magical this place really is! Getting AroundAnother great friend on the block owns and operates a very exclusive and yet affordable limo service. She is able to get you into some of the most exclusive and unknown little wineries. Her service is superb, yet affordable. She could also pick you up or drop you off at the airports. The ferry that runs back and forth to San Francisco is just a couple of miles from here. Once in SF, public transportation can get you all over the city to see some of the sights, take in some theater productions, and eat some great cuisine. If you are driving, there are packing spaces in front of the house or in the driveway. Other Things to NoteYou can walk to the scenic campus of the California State University Maritime Academy or take a walk across the Carquinez Bridge to have brunch, lunch or dinner at the very popular Dead Fish Restaurant whose owners are also owners of the Stinking Rose and Fog City Diner, in San Francisco. You can take the Ferry to SF for the best culinary experiences and flavors from around the world. No driving required.

The NeighborhoodHistory of Glen Cove Marina In the mid 1800s, ship traffic from San Francisco to the California Delta increased dramatically due to the discovery of Gold at Sutter’s Mill and the construction of the Navy’s first base on the West Coast on Mare Island. The first lighthouse to mark the entrance to Carquinez Strait was built in 1873. Not long after constructing the Mare Island Lighthouse, the Lighthouse Board realized that a beacon positioned offshore near the junction of Carquinez Strait and the Napa River would better serve navigation in the area. In 1907, Congress appropriated $50,000 for a small light and fog signal at Carquinez Strait. Starting in 1908, hundreds of wooden piles were driven into the strait’s muddy bottom to create a long pier extending out into the water over a mile from Carquinez Heights. At the very end of the pier, a dock and causeway led to a platform which supported the lighthouse. Completed in 1909, the spacious 28-room, 3 story dwelling had a veranda which wrapped around the northern side. It housed 3 keepers and their families. The red light from a fixed, fourth order Fresnel lens first shone in 1910, and the nearby Mare Island Lighthouse was discontinued 7 years later. The Carquinez Strait Lighthouse served until 1951 when it was replaced by a smaller automated beacon and fog signal. Four years later the lighthouse was offered for sale. The building was purchased in 1955 and moved to it’s current location in Elliot Cove, next to Glen Cove, where the docks you see today were built around it. Intended to be named, Lighthouse Harbor, the marina eventually became Glen Cove Marina. Sadly, the tower and lantern were destroyed during the move, but most of the building remains intact. The marina office and cafe are located on the veranda, which has been enclosed with giant windows, so visitors can still admire the views of the marina and Carquinez Strait. Carquinez Strait Lighthouse was one of a chain of thirteen stations that started at the entrance to San Francisco Bay (Point Bonita) and ended at Roe Island in Suisun Bay.Of the seventeen original lighthouse buildings, only three others remain in existence: the St. Francis Yacht Club on Tinsley Island, the East Brothers lighthouse in San Pablo Bay (now a bed and breakfast establishment), and the Oakland Harbor Light (now Quinn’s Lighthouse, a restaurant and bar). Glen Cove Marina’s “white Victorian house” was originally built as a twenty-eight room residency as part of the Carquinez Strait Lighthouse and Life Saving Station, which was located at the entrance to the deep water channel leading to Mare Island and the Napa River. First occupied on January 15, 1910, the lighthouse was one of a chain of seventeen stations that started at the entrance to San Francisco Bay (Point Bonita) and ended at Roe Island in Suisun Bay. In 1955, the U.S. Coast Guard automated the light and fog horn mechanisms, and the main building of the Carquinez Strait Lighthouse was sold to a private party who, in 1957, moved the building by barge up the Strait to its present position at Elliot Cove, overlooking the scenic marina. Of the seventeen original lighthouse buildings, only two others remain in existence: the St. Francis Yacht Club on Tinsley Island, and the East Brothers lighthouse in San Pablo Bay (now a bed and breakfast establishment).

The SpaceThe carpeted bedrooms each include a Stearns & Foster queen bed, nightstands, and closet space, though of course, I use part of the closet for my own storage too. The private bathroom is 3-piece, with a stand-up shower. The en suite to the master bedroom has a shower/ tub combo. The cozy living room, dining room, and kitchen boast great views. Guest AccessYou'll have access to the entire apartment: kitchen, dining room, living room, and patio have amazing views of the Carquinez. Benicia State Recreation Area is steps away. This space will be best for a couple or foursome coming into town for work or for a weekend exploring wine country :) Interaction with GuestsI'll ensure you have space in the fridge; Safeway is on your way in to the neighborhood if you want to pick something up. I'll offer assorted teas (including black tea) and a French press, but no promises on coffee as I don't drink it myself. Essentially, if a hotel normally provides you something, I'll probably have it for you too, but just ask if there's something you're wondering about. My cat will negotiate his own relationship with you, and I ask that you keep the bedroom doors open when you're away from the apartment, so he can keep up his usual routine of sleeping under the bed all day :) The NeighborhoodIf you're a walker or runner who loves the views, this place is for you. Glen Cove is a quiet suburb of Vallejo. The apartment is a gem on the edge of Glen Cove, surrounded by the Carquinez Straights and Benicia State Recreation Area, with Vallejo and Benicia within 10 minutes. Drive to Oakland in 40 mins, Napa in 30 mins, downtown Vallejo for the farmer's market and ferry terminal in 12 mins, downtown Benicia for the tea room or Thai food in 5 mins. Walk for miles of beautiful views and overlooks right out the front door of the apartment :) Getting AroundYou'll definitely need Uber or a car to stay here and there's free parking. Vallejo ferry terminal is 12 mins away and the ferry ride is so lovely. Park and BART from Concord or Martinez stations. The region is very bikeable if you're good with hills. Benicia is 10 minutes away by car, or 15 on foot if you're a runner (trails through Benicia State Rec Area). Other Things to NoteFolks will pet allergies will have a hard time at my home as I also host 2 permanent residents, rescue pets Roscoe the kitty and Buster Bluth the tiny dog. Roscoe is indoor only, so I'll appreciate your care keeping the doors closed tight and ensuring that the screen in your window is secure (and let me know if for some reason it isn't).

Located between two of California's top tourist locations, San Francisco and the Napa Valley, our wonderful cottage in Crockett offers stunning Bay views from its terrace, and easy accessibility to Berkeley, Oakland, Marin County, and other locations around the Bay. From this Italianate hillside village it's an easy drive to Touro U, CA Maritime, UC Berkeley, and other East Bay universities. A myriad of local parks and golf courses offer a range of recreational activities. Our two-year old cottage features WiFi, bamboo floors throughout, slate-floored bathroom and shower over bathtub. Casual and serious cooks will appreciate the fully furnished kitchen - gas range, Le Creuset cookware, coffee maker, microwave, and place settings for four. The upstairs bedroom features a queen size bed with pillow top mattress, 600 count cotton sheets, half bath, and access to a generous-sized terrace with Bay view and comfortable furniture. The newly-furnished living room sports a couch that converts to a comfortable queen bed and a smart television with cable service and internet connection. Friendly neighbors on each side will welcome you to this single-family residential neighborhood. Built on a steep hill, visitors are treated to fabulous views of San Francisco Bay, the Carquinez Straits, the California Maritime Academy, and other Bay-side facilities. Local restaurants provide sea food, pizza, and deli sandwiches. The town offers tennis courts and swimming pool. The Crockett Hills Regional Park - a great place for hiking and mountain bike riding - is nearby. Our Bay cottage is a 20 minute drive to two different BART stations and only 8 minutes to the Vallejo Ferry which will take guests to San Francisco's Ferry Building, Pier 39, or (seasonally) the Giant's baseball park. The Oakland Airport is a 40 minute drive, and San Francisco Airport about 50 minutes. We welcome your questions. Do contact us.
