The SpaceThis cabin is located in the quaint little town of Cuchara, Colorado, where there's only two resturants and a hand full of stores - quiet and away from the snobby resort towns. There's hiking, fishing, mountain biking, horse/ATV/motorcycle trails, hunting... or just relaxing and enjoying the views on the big deck facing the Cuchara mountain resort. (I'm sorry, but we don't keep up the calendar here in airbnb, so it doesn't reflect true availability. Just ask about availability and I will get back to you on your requested dates.) Stocked with DVD's, games for kids and adults, and good ole PS2. Guest AccessHiking, Fishing, Small town with restaurants and stores, ATV trails and 11 miles from La Veta. The SpaceRESTFUL LODGINGS UNDER THE RIBS OF THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS Come discover Colorado’s best-kept secret! Ponder the quiet mystery and majesty of one of the most unique regions in all the Rocky Mountains — Stonewall Gap (altitude: 8,000 feet) — on Colorado’s “Highway of Legends.” Small, private & personable, Stonewall View Guesthouse sits at the foot of a Dakota stonewall formation that shoots between 500 and 1000 feet up out of the mountains. Newly renovated apartment A is the perfect place to soak in the sounds and silence of creation, and walk away refreshed! If apt A is not available please check the listing for apt B. Wood floors in the bedrooms and living room. Saltillo tile floors in the kitchen and bathroom. We do not serve meals, but there is a full kitchen. Queen bed in first bedroom and twin beds in the other. One bathroom with shower. There is a general store and restaurant within walking distance. Things to See and Do Around Stonewall View … * San Isabel National Forest – one of the largest Aspen groves in USA * Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Spanish Peaks, Old Santa Fe Trail * 25 myths & mysteries along the Highway of Legends (CO Hwy 12) * Over 400 “dikes” & formations unique to the Spanish Peaks area * Golden Aspens, Blue Spruce, Ponderosa Pines, Junipers & more * Hummingbirds & jays, squirrels & beaver dams * The bluest skies on Earth, and cloud formations that feast the eyes * Elk, bear, fox & wild turkey. Deer wandering daily through the yard * Rocky Mt. Troll, Deer in Stone, Staircase to Heaven, Praying Angel * Ludlow Massacre site; the WWII POW camp that built Hwy 12 * Invigorating mountain air & soothing pine fragrances * Climbing the Stonewall or the West Peak * Fishing at Monument Lake, North Lake, Blue Lake, or Bear Lake * The restful sounds and silence of nature; every star in the sky Come & see for yourself that Rocky Mountain rocks really do grow! (Bring your own shovel). We are in the mountains. Therefore... 1) Cell phone coverage is limited. We'll be glad to direct you to the "sweet spots" in the area. 2) Internet service is only available via Satellite. Our Internet service is faster than dial-up but slower than services in the city. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Interaction with GuestsI am rarely in Stonewall. I live in China. Anita, my manager lives at the property, but she also has a full-time job. We both enjoy interacting when we are able, but it is not always possible. Other Things to NoteWe are in an area that does not have the infrastructure for regular high speed internet that you may be used to in the city. It is slow, expensive, and unreliable. This is one of the trade-offs for living in a beautiful rural area. We have the most extensive and expensive plan available but it only allows 10 gb per month of data - once that is used, the service slows down even more until the monthly reset day. Please use sparingly to be considerate of others who will also need it during the month.

At 9,200 feet elevation, you will enjoy the clean Colorado air and be amazed by the dazzling star show every night! We would like to share our new (to us) home in the Spanish Peaks area. This is a custom-built log home with all the amenities. The home is available from May 1 to November 1. We are in the high mountain valley south of Cuchara. Sunrise in the morning over the Spanish Peaks, sunset in the evening over San Isabel National Forest. Wildlife roam the mountains. You may see deer, elk, big horn sheep, black bear – all sorts of mountain wildlife. Our home is four bedroom, three bath, on three levels. The loft level is the double bed with ensuite bathroom. The main level is the open living room with fireplace and fully equipped kitchen and the master bedroom with queen-sized bed and ensuite bathroom. A private deck off the master bedroom is perfect for morning coffee or an evening aperitif! The lower level is two bedrooms, sharing one bath, with private exit to the deck. We replaced the carpeting with wood flooring and the warmth of the main room is special. Cuchara boasts two restaurants, The Timbers and the Dog Bar and Grill (where people actually do take their dogs). La Veta, only about 8 miles north, has lovely shops and restaurants. Don't miss Alys's Restaurant – best around for miles! The Next Door Deli, The Ryus Bakery, and the Paradise Bakery are all musts for breakfast or lunch. A drive south on Highway 12 (Highway of Legends) on the way to Trinidad provides unbelievable scenery. The Sand Dunes Monument is about an hour away. Taos is a couple of hours away. We discovered this area several years ago and fell in love with it. We bought a condo two years ago. Now we have purchased this house in addition so we have room for family visits. We aren't totally retired, so we can't be there full time yet. So, we would like to share it with special people who will enjoy it as much as we do. The house is just two miles south of the quaint little town of Cuchara, home of the famous Dog Bar Grill. Cute shops, several places to ignore your diet, lots of hiking around the area.

Great family-friendly mountain home that can sleep up to 9. Enter the home on the 2nd level into the living area with spacious family room overlooking Mt. Lindsay and Mt. Blanca. Stay cozy in the cold weather with electric baseboard heating and/or with the modern wood stove. Enjoy cooking in the kitchen overlooking the beautifully landscaped yard. Kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator (ice trays), built in oven, microwave, electric stove with griddle, and dishwasher. There is also a toaster and coffee maker for your convenience. Enjoy meals in the dining room overlooking the mountain view or outside on the deck. Relax in the solarium taking in the serene alpine setting through the wall of windows or have fun playing games. A full bath with shower is located just off the solarium. Outside upper deck with deck chairs is accessible from the solarium. All the bedrooms are downstairs. Master bedroom with king-size bed, full, in-suite bath (sunken tub), second bedroom with 2 single twin beds, third bedroom with a twin over double bunk bed. Full bath in downstairs hall (shower) serves both second and third bedrooms. Also available are 2 twin cots that can be placed wherever desired in the house and used to sleep two additional people. Full size washer and dryer are located in downstairs hall for all your laundry needs. The yard surrounding Casa Friede has been painstakingly landscaped over the years by the former owners and adds to the charm of the home. In addition to the upper deck, there is a lower deck area with bench seating where you can sit, enjoy the lovely yard and listen to the wind rushing through the trees. Wildlife is abundant in Forbes Park as are the opportunities to enjoy it. Access to San Isabel National Forest is available from within the Park. You can walk the many roads within the development and enjoy some of the 5,000 acres of protected common land which includes meadows, streams, forests, lakes and beaver ponds. Also available in Forbes Park are many miles of hiking, cross country skiing, and mountain biking. Visit Great Sand Dunes National Park only 45 miles away. You'll be amazed at the massive sand dunes and will feel like you are in the middle of a desert. You can get up close and personal and climb the dunes and enjoy the creek that runs through it during the spring and early summer. This is one of our family's favorite spots in Colorado. Also within 2 hours are several ski areas (see link below for more info) that you can take a day trip and enjoy. La Veta and Cuchara are about an hour or less drive from Casa Friede and offer local dining, shopping and entertainment options fun for all ages. We invite you to come experience Casa Friede and explore beautiful Southern Colorado. Forbes Park is a beautiful, gated 13,000 acre development located in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. It's far enough away from the hustle and bustle to be a fantastic get-away location, but close enough to civilization to offer lots of fun options for sightseeing, outdoor adventuring, shopping, dining or just relaxing and enjoying the gorgeous mountain views and wildlife. We started our search in Forbes Park by looking at available lots with the intent to build; however, when we were shown Casa Friede on a whim, we fell in love with the house. The former (and original) owner was so nice and had kept up the house so beautifully that we decided to continue their legacy in the name of the house. The fact that Forbes Park has access to San Isabel national forest, is within around 2 hours or less of several nice ski areas, and is close to a host of other options for hiking, sightseeing, cross country skiing, etc. was very attractive to us. There are great options for either summer or winter activities for the whole family.

WE ARE WINTERIZED UNTIL MAY 1. YOU CAN BOOK NOW FOR SUMMER HOWEVER! How long has it been since you were able to look up at the stars and actually see the Milky Way? Our condo is away from town, in the high mountain valley south of Cuchara, and you won’t believe the views! Sunrise in the morning over the Spanish Peaks, sunsets in the evening over San Isabel National Forest, and the stars at night! Wildlife roam the mountains. You may see deer, elk, big horn sheep, black bear, mountain lions, foxes, bobcats, coyotes, and beavers. If relaxing isn’t your thing, then enjoy the fishing, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, golf at Grandote Peaks…all yours! Cuchara, just two miles away, is home to the famous Dog Bar. And if that isn’t enough to entice you, take Highway 12 (Highway of Legends) south to Trinidad, past Monument and North lakes for unbelievable scenery. Or go north on the highway to La Veta, where you will find unique treasures from the artists who reside there. And the bakery in La Veta is the best! Don’t forget the Great Sand Dunes Monument, about an hour away. And the Uptop Ghost Town on Old La Veta Pass gives you a glimpse into early Colorado. Also, San Luis is the oldest town in Colorado, and is just southwest of Cuchara. We fell in love with this area when we visited a year ago, and found ourselves buying a condo. We love it, but aren’t totally retired yet so can’t be there full time. So we are sharing it with you and know that you will enjoy it! Our condo is an end unit, so it is very quiet and has views from `windows on three sides. Spend summer evenings on the deck enjoying the cool air, or winter evenings inside by the fireplace just relaxing! Three full baths ensure lots of privacy! Kitchen has been remodeled to include deep sink and full-size dishwasher. Wood flooring gives a beautiful warmth to our home. New refrigerator with icemaker is great! One bedroom with twin beds, one bedroom with a queen bed. Pull-out sofa on the main floor. There are two very nice inflatable twin beds available (inflate immediately). Come enjoy!

WINTER IS AWESOME IN THE SUNNY SAN LUIS VALLY! Cross Country skiing right outside the door in the friendly foothills of the Sangre de Cristos and just an hour to Red River and Taos Ski areas. EarthNest Cottage is your winter sanctuary, your quiet and welcoming place for rest, contemplation, writing, meditation, and a laid back sunny snow season. Every Winter we welcome longer-term renters, offering great discounts for a week or a month!! Your vacation home is near the Great Sand Dunes National Park and just an hour's drive to Taos and Red River Ski areas. Bring your bathing suit for nearby natural hot springs and enjoy the simple country-living luxuries of this solar and wind powered three-level stucco cottage. Remote and quiet, yet accessible by country roads, this country home comes as a whole package, but if you wish, for added privacy, there are two independent living areas, each with its own entrance, kitchen and bathroom. Downstairs you have a queen-sized Tempurpedic bed and a single lofted bed. For starlight sleeping the sun-room's single couch adds a fourth bed on the downstairs level. For families or for small groups, it's great to have this lower level family room with its own gas-range kitchen and delightful sun room. Your view overlooks 150 miles across the mesas of the San Luis Valley to the far horizons of the San Juans and the Continental Divide. It's no exaggeration to say that you'll love this big roomy house, but you'll be amazed by the "forest-grove" downstairs bathroom. What an illusion! The gorgeous copper and brushed-nickel tub and the slab of mahogany vanity are surrounded by massive oak trees, captured by the murals' photographer. Check out our photos! With all electric and electronic comforts being solar powered and off the grid, we are thermostat heated and have plenty of hot water. In fact our 300 foot well has been tested many times, and our water is ten times more pure than the best city water anywhere in the US. The open architecture of the main living area, with its high vaulted ceiling and overlooking loft provides lots of natural light, and the big rock fireplace is great for snuggling up or for sharing a toddy with your loved ones. A nice wood stove on each floor, backed up by our thermostat heating system, means constant comfort and warmth. Yes, you can carry in some firewood from the woodpile, but you don’t have to. The main level kitchen is practical, functional, and comes with all you need for cooking. My pantry is open to you for the regular staples like S&P, oils, flour, sugar etc., and lots of choices for teas and spices. You'll wash dishes the old fashioned way, by hand. Instead of TV we offer a nice flat screen monitor with ROKU, giving you access to Netflix and other selections, or you can plug in your own music and games. If you're not outside most of the time, which is easy to do here even in winter, you'll have an excellent library to browse. This is not a Martha Stewart home. The character of the house is eclectic, exuberant, colorful, worldly, and somewhat whimsical. You'll enjoy the company of Leo, the great mahogany lion who just sits there on the hearth, protective and majestic. The bathroom on this level is Tahitian, with a Gauguin print, a Talavera ceramic washbasin, and a very nice claw-foot tub and shower right next to the window. You'll see passing deer and maybe a herd of elk as you bathe. Overlooking the living room, behind a handsome ship-white railing, is the Loft, the sunny third level dormer with a nice double brass bed and a good reading light. The big bay window gives a "penthouse" view of the area and provides nice cross ventilation of clean mountain air. A needle-point loveseat, a big aloe cactus, and a huge healthy jade plant complete the picture of simple farmhouse pleasures, all nicely put together. On the main level, the 400 sq ft sunset-facing dining room has polished pine flooring and seven windows overlooking the spectacular views of Mount Blanca, Mountain Home Lake, and the vast reaches of the Valley's mesas, rimmed by the San Juans on the far horizon. The handsome custom built distressed-wood table and leather chairs hold six (or eight) for dinner, and there are plenty of colorful plates and table settings available for your family feast. Total sleeping capacity looks like this: two couples, two singles, plus two more on the upstairs and downstairs couches, making a total of eight. A folding cot is available too. The grounds have plenty of room for camping, tenting, and there’s lots of parking for snowmobiles, motor homes, RVs and ATVs, bikes and whatever other play toys you bring. Snowboards, sandboards for the Dunes, and fat-tire bikes can be rented, and folks who like ice fishing are likely to bring home some rainbow trout for dinner. To get away from dreary grey skies and socked in cities, consider making EarthNest Cottage YOUR SUNNY WINTER INTENSIVE RETREAT and COUNTRY GETAWAY!

Nestled in the dense forests of the Sangre de Cristo Range of Colorado's Rocky Mountains. Off I-25 west of Walsenburg and east of Ft.Garland, Forbes Park is a private gated community encompassing over 13000 acres of fenced and protected land. Over 5000 acres of which is commons land, preserved for residents use and can never be built on or developed. Our cabin is located approximately 13 miles into the rear of the park on a well maintained dirt road. A short walk to the San Isabel National Forest Trail head. Far from 'all' the civilized world's distractions. We offer birding, hiking, and wildlife viewing. Miles of cross country skiing and snowmobiling from the front door on seldom plowed roads and old logging trails, which we seldom see anyone on for most of the winter months. Off the grid, total solar, not even 'connected' to the world. Abundant wildlife, including Elk, Deer, Bear, Porcupine, Bobcat, Turkey, and Mountain Lion, all of which have been observed 'on' the property. Interested in the bull elk you saw? Not here, but you can meet him on his turf just up the trail and into the National Forest. Hunting is permitted there and we know the folks you need to know for assistance with game ventures during the seasons. NOTE: Forbes Park Landowners Association restricts access to the national forest from the park. All Colorado hunting regulations are supported and enforced! Absolutely no hunting or discharging of any weapon is allowed within the boundries of Forbes Park! A copy of these rules/regs furnished upon request. Constant comfort at 10,000 feet, during the winter, provided by a very efficient wood burning heater. During the summer it is so cool you will need to wear long sleeves, maybe a sweater, at night with the windows open. Light snows can surprise you at anytime, even during the summer months. Seven years now and we still are grabbing our book to identify new birds on our porch feeders. You can literally approach and 'touch' our Hummingbirds. We have photos of the hummers perched on our fingers. We have Gray Jays that will perch on your knee and eat from your hands. Our occasional bear visitors (no Grizzlys) are much more shy than the birds. They don't normally approach anywhere near if anyone is out and about. Bear sightings are very rare but increasing in frequency. We have photos of them, which we took from the porch, early one morning, while sitting quietly sipping our tea. Cougar sightings are extremely rare, but I have, along with several guests, observed a large cougar walking through the back yard. Winters are not for words. Words will never describe the beauty of these mountains following a heavy snow. Never worry, first light, following moderate to heavy snows, and our snow plows are already on their way up the roads. We also own a Skidsteer for plowing the driveway . Our home owners association contracts out properly maintained snow removal in excess of six inches. Occupied roads, such as ours are kept clear year round, but would it be BAD to get snowed in for a day? It does happen! Besides, most guests will already be out on our snow mobiles riding the miles of seldom plowed 'back' roads and trails which join the back of our property. We have ridden on snows well over four feet in depth from the back of the property. Kids will play tirelessly, all day on paths we plow for their sleds. You won't have any trouble getting them into bed at night, leaving you time for some Caveman television! Winter play will bring out the kid in anyone and you will not want to leave here. Three bedrooms and a sleeping loft, can accommodate 7 (max.) persons. We live on-site to better serve our guests and assist with unexpected needs, especially during the winter months. We can 'disappear' upon request. We do stay out of your way, in our basement apartment unless invited . Winter visitors flying in, especially during the winter months, are encouraged to purchase airline tickets that can be changed, because of the threat of heavy snow storms at any time. Standard Check-in: 4:00 PM, check-out: 11:00 AM. We try to avoid back to back reservations, so that we can be flexible either way with check-in, check-out times. An all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive car is a necessity from November-May. There is an abundance of historical and tourist attractions within a couple of hours of the cabin. Ft.Garland's Pioneer Village, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Zapata Falls, San Luis' Stations of the Cross, San Luis itself, plenty of local museums and other places of interest.
