The SpaceThe room is clear an spacious, for one or two persons. It is in a clear and safe traditional house of Cuenca (The house style is colonial. It is fully rebuilt while retaining the original design). It has plenty of views, and it has the warmth of wood. Please realize this is an attic. Look at the pictures please! Guest AccessIn the morning you will have a hot drink and cookies when you wake up. We serve full breakfast on request (typical food of the area or continental breakfast, almost all food is organic), we charge $ 4.00 per person, order the day before please. Drinking water is from PiMag Nikken filter, the best one! You can have your snacks or food you bring from outside, in the kitchen, you occasionally can cook a meal in the evening and store your food in the fridge. You can sunbathe in the terrace, and wash your clothes in the sink. There is very reasonable price laundry near home. Feel free to switch on the wi-fi when you need it, when you finish using it, please switch it off (or tell us the hour we can turn it off), this is for your health and the health of all of them sleeping at home. Thanks for your cooperation. We are very flexible with arrivals and departures, but if one day there are other guests arriving we will ask you to let us clean the room in the morning. We like to please you, you only ask. Interaction with GuestsWe are very sociable and we love to tell tourists where they can find bars, museums, etc. or make recommendations for sightseeing. We are also very respectful of privacy. I always welcome guests, no matter what time you arrive. The NeighborhoodIt is two blocks from Carderón Park, the hustle and bustle of the city contrasts with the tranquility and warmth inside the house. It is a safe place. It has all the facilities you may require when visiting a city: bars (the best are in the center), museums, banks, taxis, buses, shops, markets, laundries, parkings (if you need a parking space, I will reserve one for you). Traditional house in great neighborhood. It's a good experience to wander our streets and go looking at the yards of neighboring houses, all are a delight! Do not miss the traditional jewelry stores, markets, the river. Enjoy the sweets of the store at our entry, these are the best in the city. Getting AroundYou can visit the city by foot, but in the neighborhood you can find bus stops, taxis or vans for hire. There are also many places to leave your car safely (if you need a parking space, I will reserve one for you). The airport and the bus station are nearby. Other Things to NoteWe are respectful of all lifestyles, and try to be very eco-friendly. Because tourism can be a highly polluting activity, as it is in many hotels, we try to care about your well being and comfort without polluting. Please turn off the wi-fi when you are not using it, and try to save water and energy. You have a laundry very near home and very low prices. Or you can wash your clothes in our wide sink, which is on the terrace. We have our laundry area in the terrace.

The building is very secure with a friendly guard from morning to night. When the guard isn't there, you are behind 3 locked metal doors. The apartment is quiet as it is 5 stories up, with new acoustic-control windows throughout and no walls are shared with any neighbors. There are just 2 other residences, and the rest of the building is occupied by offices, mostly law offices. If you have a rental car, there is a parking lot next door. If you have more than 6 people, there is an extra twin mattress to sleep one more, and a dining room table for 8. For your comfort, all rooms have black-out curtains, there are portable heaters, a wood burning and an electric fireplace, extra pillows and blankets, and virtually unlimited hot water. There is a full-sized washer with hot water and gas dryer for your use. We use only hypo-allergenic fragrance-free detergents.

The SpaceThis 900 sqft classic, colonial apartment captures the essence of old world Cuenca. Enjoy the comforts of a home for what you’d pay for an average hotel (where all you get is a room with a bed and bathroom)! Following the description of this apartment (at the bottom) is a 'checklist' of things you might consider when examining other listings. Be sure to look it over so you get the RIGHT FIT FOR YOU!!! Now, about this apartment..... Situated in an old colonial building, right in the heart of Cuenca’s El Centro, within easy walking distance to all the amenities you could possibly want! Even though the building dates back to before we were born, the apartment has been completely upgraded and modernized but without losing the character and charm. - Close to the blue-domed Cathedral, flower market, and Parque Calderon, the center of the Universe when it comes to Cuenca’s activities, festivals, tourism office, tour bus, etc. - EZ walk to large mercado brimming with fresh fruits, produce, and seafood - Otavalan textile vendors (clothing, scarves, tapestries) line the nearby Plaza San Francisco - Just a few blocks to the Tomebamba river and greenbelt, great for people watching, running, biking, exercise - Eateries from cheap Ecuadorian to fancy to expat-owned all around you. - Want a taxi or a bus? They're ripe for picking anywhere you happen to be in El Centro. Elevators are very rare in the older buildings of Cuenca. The unit necessitates a 1 flight walk up. The kitchen has plenty of counter (prep) space plus lots of upper/lower cabinets and drawers and…it’s fully stocked with everything you’ll need (except food!)…gas cooktop/oven, microwave, toaster, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker, food processor, and tall refrigerator. Coffee/tea, condiments, cooking oil and spices are also provided. Also, in this large space, you’ll find the washer AND a dryer (VERY uncommon here!!) and off to the side, an antique office desk for your computer moments. The living room is HUGE with dramatic 11ft high ceilings of elaborate design, trimmed with equally dramatic crown moldings, and topped off with large, ornate, wrought iron chandeliers. Large windows let in plenty of light . The living area is outfitted with a large L-shaped sofa, flat screen TV (with HDMI ports so you can watch TV (even USA stations!) from your laptop), and DVD player (with library of over 100 DVD’s to choose from). Off to the side is the dining area with a nice table and 4 chairs. Throughout the apartment, you’ll find pieces of art by local artisans like ceramics by Eduardo Vega, handmade candelabras by local metalworkers, and Otavalan tapestries. You’ll be happy as a clam. The bedroom is situated in the back away from the front of the building and has a queen-sized bed. It has a beautiful antique armoire (closet), its own private bath with shower (towels and bedding provided). OH!! A cell phone AND internet are provided, too! Yet another feature (as if you needed more!) is a rooftop terrace (exclusive use for my guests only) with table and chairs, and great views daytime or nighttime. Availability: Please consult the online calendar. I keep my calendar current at all times. Pricing: You'll find the daily cost of this apartment to be less than an average hotel here in Cuenca, especially when you consider the additional expenses of eating out all the time. Ask yourself..."How many nights would I get for the same price, if I stayed at a hotel?” When you arrive in Cuenca, I will pick you up at your arrival point (whether that be the airport, bus terminal, or van service), bring you to the apartment, give you a short orientation, answers any questions, and hand over the keys!! A CHECKLIST WHEN VIEWING OTHER LISTINGS * Location. Can you walk to most everything you'll want to do, or do you always need to take a taxi or bus to get there? * Does the unit have hot water at the kitchen sink, bathroom sink (rare here), and shower? * Does the shower have direct-piped hot water, or one of those electric shower-heads that produce only lukewarm water (known as 'widow-makers')? * Does the unit have an oven or just a cooktop? * Does it have both a washer and dryer IN the unit? * Does it have a tiny fridge? Is it sitting on the floor where you darn near have to get on your knees to get anything? * If 2 people are sleeping in the same bed, can they walk around both sides of the bed? Is the bed FULL or QUEEN? * Is the bed(s) located in the SAME space as the living room? * Does the furniture look comfortable or is it rigid and formal and/or crammed together in a tiny space? * Does the kitchen come with all the amenities you’ll want/need to prepare meals and save a few bucks from eating out all the time? These kinds of things can make the difference between an 'okay' experience and a great one. Closely examine the photos in each listing and look for details in the descriptive write-up. Guest AccessThe entire apartment is their own. Elevators are very rare in the older buildings of Cuenca. The unit requires a one flight walk up. Guests also have exclusive access to the rooftop terrace where they'll find a patio table and chairs to enjoy the views daytime or nightime. A binder is available that details topics such as: taxi's, tipping, what to see/do, safety, how this/that operates in the apt, etc etc. I affectionately refer to it as 'The Bible' as it (theoretically) should answer any question the guest might have. Interaction with GuestsI'm available by phone or email at any time. Other than picking up the guests at their arrival point, bringing them to the apt and providing a short overview and answering any questions...the guests are not intruded upon. The NeighborhoodYou are in the center of the world as far as Cuenca is concerned! From an artesan enclave, textile vendors, flower market, and fruit/vegetable market any block you take will lead you to inspiring architecture, museums, galleries, churches/cathedrals, and a myriad of restaurants. Getting AroundBuses and taxi's practically on any street. Other Things to NoteWell respected dental office on the first floor. Wave and say 'Hi' to Carmen...the (URL HIDDEN) you walk by.

The SpaceEnjoy the comforts of a home for what you’d pay for an average hotel (where all you get is a room with a bed and bathroom)! Following the description of this apartment (at the bottom) is a 'checklist' of things you might consider when examining other properties. Be sure to look it over so you get the RIGHT FIT FOR YOU!!! Now, about this apartment..... Situated in a historic complex, this unit is set in the back away from the busy street where you can enjoy QUIET! The unit has two bedrooms plus one bath (with shower), a living area with a flat-screen TV and DVR (plus lots of DVD’s!!), stereo, and a laundry porch with full-sized washer AND dryer (IN the unit, not located somewhere else in the complex). The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you’ll need (except food!)…gas cooktop/oven, microwave, toaster, blender, coffee-maker, toaster oven, and tall refrigerator. Coffee/tea, condiments, cooking oil and spices are also provided. OH!! A cell phone AND internet are provided, too! Hot water at ALL outlets. The bed is NOT located in the same space as the living room (like some other rentals)!! • Located along the Tomebamba river, greenbelt, and a short walk to El Centro ‘old town’ Cuenca • Near a large, recently renovated park (Parque de la Madre) and new Planetarium. • 4 blocks to a major supermarket • Pharmacies, medical/dental offices, and hospital all within about 6 blocks • 5 blocks to the soccer stadium • Want a taxi? A bus? 1 block and you’re set. Availability: Please review the online calendar. I keep my calendar current at all times. AND, if you stay a month or longer, you'll get a significantly discounted month-rate, saving you even MORE money!! Ask yourself..."How many nights would I get for the same price, if I stayed at a hotel?” FULL DISCLOSURE: Like most older buildings in Cuenca, there is no elevator. The unit is located 3 levels up. Also, to walk to the El Centro requires walking up a set of stairs across the river. If you have walking/climbing issues, you might consider my other listing (Modern Luxurious Loft apt…).
