The SpaceSecure, private, planet-friendly 6 star energy efficient studio unit in leafy Narrabundah. The space is part of a solar passive architecturally designed home built by us in 2014. The studio is solar oriented on a North facing block so it's warm in winter and cool in summer. How does it work? In the cooler months we leave the curtains open to allow the sun to reach the polished concrete floors which absorbs the heat and then releases it back into the room overnight. In the warmer months we keep the curtains closed so the room doesn't heat and the heavily insulated structure keeps the space cool. Why else do you call it 'planet-friendly'? The large rainwater collection tanks are plumbed so their water is used to flush the toilets, fill the washing machines and supply all the outside taps. There's a grey water diversion system which means all the waste water from the basins, showers, kitchen and laundry sinks is used to water the gardens. There's a roof full of solar panels to support our electricity use so on sunny days we are putting power back into the grid as well as meeting our own needs. Onsite we have chickens who will happily trade you fresh eggs for your compost and food left-overs and we're working on creating a full food garden to complete our urban farm. Guest AccessThe property has its own entrance, outdoor space and off-street parking. We live in the adjoining property that is separated by a gate, so we probably won't see much of each other unless we plan a meet-up. Interaction with GuestsWe'll leave you to enjoy the space and check-in with you via AirBnB messages throughout your stay to make sure your comfortable. We're right next door though, so if you need a hand with something or some info on the local area give us a call or send a message. It matters to us that you enjoy your stay so we're keen to help. Let us know if you'd like to catch up for chat as were open to this too and like meeting new people. Please say hi and have a chat if you see us in the garden, especially to Max our fur child who considers himself the guard dog of our block, even though he's only 30cm tall and incredibly pretty. He's gentle natured and would love a pat through the fence if your so inclined. The NeighborhoodI love this area for lots of reasons ... ... many people go for a morning or evening stroll, they're always friendly and say hi as they pass ... the tall gum trees blowing in the wind ... the convenience and quality of the nearby shops and restaurants ... the location is central, less than 20 mins to everywhere in Canberra by car or to the City by bus Getting AroundOff street parking is included and there are bus stops nearby and an App available to track the next bus arrival and destination. Other Things to NotePlease be mindful of opening the curtains through the day to allow the sun to heat the room in winter. Likewise, it's important to keep them closed in Summer so your room remains nice and cool. There's a back-up reverse cycle air-conditioner in the studio if you forget.
