The SpaceThe flat is very peaceful and sunny with a pleasant outlook over mature gardens and out to sea. It is on the top floor of an old building from the 18th c. and is easily accessed from the main door on the High Street. NB there is a flight of stone stairs leading to the flat so this may not be suitable for people with mobility problems. The bedroom is small but cozy and has a Velux window, chest of drawers and walk-in wardrobe/cupboard, with ample storage for luggage, clothes etc. There is a small hallway, leading to an open plan sitting room and kitchen. The kitchen has a washing machine and fridge freezer and an electric hob cooker and oven, microwave oven, as well as a range of equipment. NB there is no dishwasher. The sitting room has a writing desk overlooking the gardens, towards the sea. There is a small two seater sofa and a leather club chair, bookcase with various board games and local information, coffee table and a small (24 inches) Samsung Smart HD TV and a DVD player. I keep my own collection of DVDs in the flat which guests are welcome to borrow. I also keep a spare set of golf clubs for guests to use. Hot water is provided by a traditional boiler in a cupboard off the sitting room, though there is an electric shower (instant). The bathroom has a small bath, with an over bath shower. There is quite a large garden, most of which is shared, including a drying green (clothes line and pegs). There is also a secluded private garden area at the end of the garden, on the right side, with a table and bench. There is ample space to leave bikes securely either in the garden or in the passage way. Parking - there is a large, overnight public car park at the station which is about 100 metres from the flat. You can also often find spaces on the street immediately outside the flat. Guest AccessAccess to bedding, kitchen equipment and utensils, bathroom towels, soap and shower gel. Private garden access with space for bikes. Spare set of golf clubs. Free off street parking 150 yards: on street, within 50 yards. Interaction with GuestsI would expect to be contactable by mobile and email during your stay. The NeighborhoodI lived in Aberdour full time, when I commuted into Edinburgh. I now visit it for breaks. It is a beautiful and historic village, with a special atmosphere. What I love most are the many walks, along the coast and up in the surrounding hills and woods. There are two outstanding beaches and an old mediaeval harbour, as well as a castle in the centre of the village. There are excellent local amenities, including a village post office in the same building, a pharmacy immediately opposite, several small shops and a bakery and delicatessen. There are four pubs/hotel bars, which also serve food and there is an excellent fish restaurant close to the harbour. There are tennis courts and a well-maintained 18 hole parkland golf course about 5 minutes walk from the flat. As well as the beaches, there is a large park with a very high quality play park for children, about 100 metres away. It is very convenient to use as a base for exploring Fife, Edinburgh or further afield. Getting AroundThere is excellent local public transport. The flat is two minutes walk from the station, which has regular trains to Haymarket and Waverley stations in the centre of Edinburgh, taking approximately 30 minutes, and to Fife circle stations, including Leuchars (for St. Andrews). There are also good local bus services, with buses stopping very close to the flat on the High Street. To get to from the airport, you can take a bus (747) direct to Inverkeithing railway station (20 minutes) and from there a train direct to Aberdour (10 minutes). With changes it should take about 45 minutes. Contact me for further details/web links.
