            A large character house on a large section. This house was originally built in 1886 and is one of the oldest in the village. The house has been host to the local Doctor, rural posty and numerous farming families of the region. We have modernised the house while retaining the character and feel that came with the era it was built in. Over the past 8 years it has undergone extensive refurbishments. The house is short walk to the beach, pub or golf course. The beach is 10 kms of golden sand, with great fishing, diving and areas of safe swimming. This location offers a great place to unwind and take in the stunning Wairarapa coast. It also has a fantastic golf course and local cafe. The coast has a great reputation for longline fishing, and we speak from experience when we say that the gurnard and kahawai along this coast are some of the biggest you will catch! Close to the area is Akitio, with the possibility of a drive over Akitio station through stunning scenery if you gain permission. You might also fancy a short drive to Porangahau or maybe the easy drive to either Dannevirke or Waipukurau to check out the local eateries! A large and noisy seal colony hauls out at the famous Cape Turnagain. From here you can see where they used to barge supplies to shore and take wool to waiting freighters. When the sea conditions are right you can also get a feed of fat paua, or if keen take your tanks and find crays only a short distance off shore. The house is warm with a large wood burner and stacks of firewood so offers a comfortable stay regardless of the weather. There are plenty of games and books. It is a great house to relax, unwind and enjoy the rural surroundings. All the bedrooms are large and warm. The bathroom and kitchen have recently undergone renovations and are clean and modern. Large fenced section is great for kids and the dog. Pets are by prior arrangement. There is plenty of off street parking for extra cars or the boat. Special conditions: The house has undergone extensive refurbishment but we still have work to do! The interior is largely complete but if unpainted gib or uncarpeted floors offend, then this house is not for you! Smoking is only permitted outside and guest must clean up any butts. Max 4 adults. There are two fridge/freezers in the house for larger groups or extended stays. We prefer family groups or couples where possible. NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave; Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels);

              Set on a working sheep, cattle, deer and horse farm, 10 kms from SH1 on a scenic through route to Feilding and Palmerston North. There are 4 golf courses within 1 hour from Mangaweka, including Rangatira Golf Course with it's 3 level course and unique cable car back up to the club house. Locally there are beautiful gardens open to the public, including the renowned Cross Hills Rhododendron Garden 25 minutes away. This is an area of river adventure - kayaking, canoeing, rafting (both white water and scenic), and of course trout fishing. The Rangitikei River is known as one of the best flyfishing (and most challenging!) rivers in the world, and we have the services of an excellent guide. Also on the river are the high-adrenalin activities of bungy jumping, bridge swinging and a flying fox. Our river on the farm has wonderful swimming holes only 10 minutes walk from the house, and there is limited catch and release trout fishing. You can wander across the farm, or have a 4WD tour with David (conditions apply), visit the new born foals (in season) or feed the pet lambs and sheep.                   Cathedral-roofed modern beach house with spectacular views of the Wairarapa coast all the way down to Castlepoint. Just steps away from the beach and overlooking a reef where you can find paua and crayfish. Good swimming, fishing and surfing but at its best when you just want to chill out. It's great in winter as there is a woodburner to gather around and keep the house cosy. The house has a huge three-sided wrap-around deck with plenty of outdoor seating - you can find shelter outside most days, even in winter. You can barbecue on the extra deck beside kitchen - also a great place to sit and look over the dunes to the sea and hills. The house is well kitted-out, but we've tried not to lose the kiwi bach feel. Fireplace and books, magazines and games to entertain. Sea views everywhere. Downstairs has been turned into a games room with pool table, table tennis and table football. There's a kayak (with life jackets) available to explore the reef or paddle up the Akitio river. All in all it is a much-loved, spacious, family bach. It's become part of other family's holidays as well as our own. We're glad that so many of our guests come back year after year. Special conditions: Smoking allowed outside only. Reduced tariff available for stays of 3 nights or longer but out of high season only. Ungated deck and unfenced garden Extras: Cleaning (Optional, NZ$40.00 per stay); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels);

                  The house is very close to the Akitio river and only 2kms to the Akitio beach. A well fenced, spacious section would be perfect for busy young families and the Akitio Retreat caters for this brilliantly. Because the house faces north, the sun pours in all day. Off the deck is a large lawn. If you're unlucky enough to strike bad weather, the house is easy to warm with the woodburner and there's an abundance of firewood. Sky TV. Spark and Vodofone reception. For those quiet times, there are plenty of games, books, a TV and stereo with a connection for an iPod. There are some DVDs and CDs but you are welcome to bring your own. Adjacent the house is a large garage for storage of any "toys" for the beach and river. The river is great for swimming, water skiing, kayaking (flat water), drag netting for flounder or fishing for kahawai at the river mouth. The beach has safe swimming and is sought after by surfers. Its easy to launch a long line off the beach and fish seem easy to catch. Should you want to launch a boat, the best place is adjacent the Akitio boat club. For a small fee you can use the Boat club tractor to launch your boat. On a windy day the beach is long enough to have fun with land yachts. Forgotten something? There is a small store that sells everything. It has a liquor licence and also sells takeaway food. Check it out. NOTE: There is NO fuel sold at Akitio so fuel up in Dannevirke. There is a sealed road all the way from Dannevirke to the coast. From Hawkes Bay, the best way to Akitio is via Dannevirke not via Porangahau as per Google Maps. The Rural Rapid Number for the Retreat is 2503. Keen of golf? Cape Turnagain is a 9 hole golf course at Herbertville, north of Akitio and they welcome visitors. If you are keen on mountain biking or tramping on the Station please enquire. Special conditions: Mountain biking and hikes/walking on the neighbouring farm are by arrangement only. Tractor hire for boat launch is available at the Akitio Boat Club. Horse riding on the farm and keeping horses in a paddock on the farm is by arrangement only. Hunting is available at a cost of $300 plus $100 for the guide. Deer (Red and Fallow) and pigs are regularly found. Enquiries welcome. Should only one nights accommodation be required a $40 cleaning fee applies. Children under 5 FREE Extras: Cleaning (Required, NZ$50.00 per stay); Linen (included);
