The SpaceSecluded Riverside Paradise next to the Selway-Bitteroot Wilderness, near Darby, Mt-1.5 hours from Missoula International (URL HIDDEN) Tailwater House offers first class accommodations in an unmatched natural setting. No dwellings are visible from the Tailwater; it is extremely private. The Tailwater offers all modern comforts and displays the hand-chosen accoutrements of a well-planned retreat. The Tailwater sits at the confluence of the West Fork of the Bitterroot River and Boulder Creek outside of Darby, Montana. Both watercourses flow out of the largest contiguous block of federally protected Wilderness in the lower 48 states, and meet one another at this very magical place. The Boulder Creek Trailhead into the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness is a short walk away. From the Tailwater’s decks, patios, and picture windows, native westslope cutthroat trout, as well as rainbows, brookies, and browns may be seen plying the blue ribbon waters of the West Fork or returning to the cool waters of Boulder Creek to spawn. Kingfishers, mallards, hummingbirds, owls, ospreys, eagles, and many more avian species inhabit the forest in which the Tailwater House resides. Some of these birds may be fishing along side you! In the forests, meadows, and surrounding peaks, elk, moose, black bear, bighorn sheep, and intact ecological systems flourish in the Bitterroot and Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forests. Instream flows have been preserved on the West Fork for perpetuity. Deep pools abound in the waters surrounding the property. For flatwater enthusiasts, Painted Rocks Reservoir is a few miles away. The Tailwater House offers pristine trout waters a few steps from the door. It is a fly fishing Mecca, but moreover, it is a magical escape in which Boulder Creek’s gurgling rhythms and the West Fork’s deep songs will serenade your worries away--all day and all night. Writers and artists take note; inspiration is a year-round occupant at the Tailwater. The Tailwater House is 20-30 minutes by car from Darby, MT; 40-45 minutes from Hamilton, MT; and 1.5 hours from Missoula International Airport and the University of Montana, Missoula. The Tailwater is approximately a one half-day drive to both Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, as well as to Idaho's world-famous Salmon River. There are several lodges within minutes of the tailwater that offer informal as well as fine dining options. These include the Triple Creek Ranch and the West Fork Lodge--both 5-10 minutes from the Tailwater House. Please (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) for the websites of these businesses for more information. Tailwater House Amenities The Tailwater sleeps 5-6 guests. (6 maximum, no exceptions.) It has 1 bathroom, 1 king size bed, 1 queen bed and 1 twin bunk bed, and 1 sleeper sofa (full). Appliances include telephone, flat screen HD tv/vcr, microwave and conventional ovens, washer/dryer, dishwasher, stereo, and other kitchen appliances. 100% cotton linens provided for use. No smoking. No pets. We don't make exceptions to these rules, as many are in need of a smoke-free, or pet-hair free lodging environment. Please keep these restrictions in mind prior to making any plans. House features large book, guidebook, and DVD/VHS library. The Tailwater Tale The Tailwater is a magical place. It will be love at first sight, cast, or swim for you--as it was for us. We purchased The Tailwater in 2006, and manage it as a family business. Our philosophy is one of sharing this special place for a reasonable price, rather than maximizing occupancy and income. We try hard to be conscientious stewards of The Tailwater and the ecosystem in which it exists. We ask that our guests do the same. It is our pleasure to share this special place and its inimitable moods and sylvan magic with you. We send our warmest thanks for your patronage, -The Tailwater House *Minimum Stay is one week. There are beautiful mountain views even though it is tucked away for solitude and privacy. The resort property has a paved drive from the county road and is adjacent to forest service and state land. This historic property holds the Legend of the Sleeping Child. The beauty of this hot springs was first discovered by the Nez Perce Indians in the 1870's. Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce led his tribe out of the reservation and through the Lolo Pass into the Bitter Root Valley. In pursuit of Chief Joseph and his people were General Howard and a group of soldiers. Trying to avoid a confrontation, Chief Joseph split his tribe into smaller groups. One such group traveled through what is now Sleeping Child Creek and, facing a possible battle, they left their infants by the hot springs. When they returned, the infants were safe and peacefully sleeping, protected by the natural hot springs. Thus, Sleeping Child Hot Springs was named. Onsite recreation include; fly fishing, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, billiards, snooker, ping pong, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard, BBQ, hot tub lounging, Croquet, fire pit, big screen TV, music, dancing, nature & sky viewing. We welcome all age groups, but pets are not allowed. Sorry. This is a no smoking facility, but, if you must smoke, our hosts will provide smoking areas for you to enjoy outside the main building. We hope you will discover the joy and excitement that we who live in the Bitterroot Valley have known for years. It's certainly no secret that this is “The Last Best Place” We welcome you to stay with us soon, and discover what you can't read in books or see in pictures. And we know, you'll be back. Sleeping Child Hot Springs is located in the beautiful Bitterroot valley, in southwest Montana. About a half hour's drive south of the quaint town of Hamilton, tucked into the Sapphire mountain range, you will find the private hot springs. Our only neighbors are the wild life, and the only traffic sound is the occasional small airplane cruising over the mountain tops. The box canyon which holds this unique property is rich with history, and beauty. There are two small creeks rippling through the yards, and a waterfall, both contributing to the soothing sounds of water which surround the canyon. Take a short walk down the driveway to Sleeping Child Creek, where you can catch cutthroat trout or walk the hiking trail along the meandering creek. Bring your bike or ATV's and cruise the miles and miles of forest service roads adjacent to the property. Don't forget your binoculars to view the elk, deer, bighorn sheep, and moose you're likely to see while on your ride! While the great town of Hamilton offers many of the western activities known to attract tourists, most of our guests never leave the canyon due to the endless fun found right here!

The Space*We are currently switching over our reservation process so patience with our response would be much appreciated! We promise we will get back to you :) Whether you are an architect buff or simply looking for a relaxing adventure, Alpine Meadows Ranch is the place for you. The ranch has been our families second home, a safe haven in which we sought refuge. By staying here, you will not only enjoy a secluded, nature-filled getaway, but will also help us restore our organic apple orchard and the over 200 acre grazing project to heal our soil and revive FLW's full vision of a working apple farm. The property is adjacent to two million acres of National Forest, countless hiking trails, the beautiful Lake Como and more. The buildings: There are four main buildings on the property. The cider house: Our communal gathering space used for weddings, events of any kind or just to cuddle by the fire with one of the best views in the west! Built out of reclaimed wood from the barn and inspired by FLWs use of locals materials, this is the newest building on the property but definitely the one used the most! The Writers Cabin: Built by FLW, the writers cabin is the first building you will encounter on the property. Tucked beneath the trees besides our creek, the building is perfect for a couple looking to get away or the creative who is seeking some piece and quiet. It's a favorite among visitors, our family and our daughter- who uses I as her writing space when she is on the property. The Farmhouse: The largest FLW building on the property, the farmhouse is a three bedrooms two baths masterpiece. Designed with FLWs central living concept, the rooms convene on the great room with a massive fireplace of hand placed river stones collected locally. The house has been our families home for years and we hope you enjoy it as we have! The suites: Built in 2000, the suites were originally an old grain barn we turned into two modern living apartment suites each with two bedrooms, one bath. The upper suites offer unparalleled views of the valley while the lower suites are ideally for anyone needing ground floor access. They've become favorites among our friends as the perfect home bases from which to explore the valley. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the whole property except for the working barn which can be rented for large scale events if needed (please message directly) Interaction with GuestsSince this is our families second home, we sadly won't be there to greet you upon arrival (unless otherwise noted)! Our friendly ranch manager will leave the doors open, lights on and keys on the counter. We only ask you leave our little haven (and the keys) exactly as you found them! The NeighborhoodTucked into the side of the valley, we are surrounded by nature + lovely neighbors. Two of the best riding centers are not even a five minute drive away (one breeding the best western studs and the other focusing on therapeutic riding). Our property borders two million acres of national forest, allowing for total seclusion only ten to fifteen minutes from the highway. Getting AroundNo public transportation- car, bike or horse necessary. If you want to be totally off the grid- we can arrange for the fridge to be stocked with an airport pick up/drop off for an extra fee. We're also located just off the Trans America bike trail! Other Things to NoteIf you would like to book activities, please contact us as we have many friends in the valley offering awesome adventures. From fly fishing to mountain biking to even hot air balloon rides, there's no shortage of what you can do to keep busy in the bitterroot!
