The SpaceThis place will fit a small family or a few people. We've had eight sleep here but that's silly. 900 square feet on the main floor with a big rec room in the basement (300 sf). Extra fee for parties over three/long term rentals. Guest AccessGuests will have the entire house. There is a driveway with room for 2 vehicles plus plenty of free street parking. Interaction with GuestsWe are often away but are happy to give advice and tips about how to make the most out of your stay in HRM. The NeighborhoodThere is a grocery store, bank, drug store (with post office) 5 minutes walk away near the Bus Terminal. The neighbourhood is quiet with a golf course at the end of our street (wonderful for winter hikes and sledding). The popular Bluenose Marathon passes our front door. Lots of lakes nearby for swimming and world class canoeing/kayaking and rowing. Getting AroundSo easy. The Bus Terminal is just down the street, 5 minutes walk away. The Transit app is easy and convenient (Transit 360). The many busses to downtown Halifax take 10 minutes. The Airport bus can drop you at this terminal and conversely take you directly to the airport (a 20 minute ride for $3.50). The ferry to downtown Halifax is a 15 minute walk or you can bus to the ferry (part of the same transit system and fee). A taxi from downtown Halifax is $15. We bike or drive downtown in 10 minutes. Please note that one bridge is under renovations and closes at 7pm and is closed for bikes and walking (they have a free shuttle). Therefore you need to take the further bridge at night. This will go on for over a year. Other Things to NoteWe have two cats. Some people are allergic or don't like cats. These cats like to read and philosophize about world peace. They like cat food and water. We have a fish tank that kids seem to love. They like fish food and never complain about the taste.

The SpaceWe live in downtown Dartmouth on a quiet street less than 10 minutes on foot to the ferry (which takes you to the Halifax waterfront and downtown), the Dartmouth farmer's market, and the library - 5 minutes to the bus terminal, parks and recreation, drugstore and supermarket. Internet available, and off-street parking. Breakfast can be pancakes with fruit and hand-ground flour, a Chinese breakfast, or whatever you like out of our fridge - we have bread, fruit, coffee (non-instant), milk, juice, honey, jam.... The room has one double bed (a futon, rather firm), and the sofa folds out to accommodate one more guest - a maximum of three. Linen, towels, soap etc. are provided, as well as a bar fridge, or space in our fridge if you need it, and full use of the kitchen. Also an iron and ironing board. German and Mandarin Chinese spoken. We have children (7 and 8), and it can get noisy, but except on a weekday during the school year they tend to sleep in. We also have a cat. This would be especially agreeable for musicians or visual artists: I'm a musician, and a piano, fiddle and guitar are available for guests, while my wife is a painter. But of course anyone is welcome.

The SpaceEnjoy the cosy confines of a bungalow-style single floor home including a large deck (50' x 12') with harbour and bridge views in Halifax's centrally located Hydrostone North (voted one of the Great Neighbourhoods in Canada/Great Places in Canada by Canadian Institute of Planners in 2011). The home is located within sight of parks (including a dog park, ample green space, basketball and tennis courts) and in close proximity to downtown Halifax (30-minute walk, 8-minute drive or bus ride from just outside the home). The most frequently mentioned attraction aside from the comfort and space our home offers is that you'll enjoy a fabulous view of the best residential sights of the harbour and bridge that our city has to offer from the 50-foot deck. The views are beautiful -- particularly at dusk and dawn. The deck also provides a serene setting to enjoy morning coffee, meals, reading, tanning/sunning, cooking and general relaxation. Just off the deck is a bar area including a bar fridge making for lovely evening cocktail options. My pride ourselves on ensuring that our guests have all they require in order to enjoy a most comfortable stay. Over the past two years, we have hosted international guests from China, Australia, England, Northern Ireland, Belgium, San Francisco, New York City, Boston, Seattle as well as many compatriots from Newfoundland, Ontario, Quebec and Alberta to great satisfaction and rave reviews. The home includes: 3 beds, 2 baths, 2 large living rooms and a full-service kitchen. Given the bungalow-style, all rooms are on the same floor, however, they are separated into two distinctly different areas -- one with a bedroom, bathroom and sunken livingroom, and the second area with two bedrooms, a bathroom and the second livingroom. The floor plan is ideal both in terms of accessibility (only three stairs) and privacy. All contents of the home including bedding, towels, cookware, dishes, cutlery and bar tools & glassware are included for your convenience. The home also comes equipped with secured unlimited free high speed Wi-Fi access, free 24-hour parking, a dishwasher, a coffeemaker, a kettle, a microwave and a large stainless steel BBQ for outdoor grilling. In terms of the neighbourhood, most amenities are within walking distance. A lovely walk through the historic Hydrostone area and past Fort Needham Park (Home of the historic Halifax Explosion Memorial) will lead you to the Hydrostone Market which offers many amenities including a few restaurants/cafés, a coffee shop, a bakery, a boutique, a butcher, an olive oil shop, a health foods store, an art gallery, a pub, and a spa, salon & masseuse -- among other conveniences. The home is also within walking distance of a pharmacy/small grocer, a convenience store, and a beer, wine & spirits store -- all only a short stroll away. A trip to the full-service grocery store is also near. All of these walks offer incredible panoramic views of the city, parks, the harbour and bridge. The proximity to downtown in this urban area does not compromise the quiet family-friendly residential nature of the neighbourhood, despite being only minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown and waterfront Halifax -- including its waterfront boardwalk, cobblestone and Argyle Streets (home to local gastronomy), historic Citadel Hill, the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market and the university district. The area also provides ease of access to Halifax's suburbs of Clayton Park, Sackville, Bedford, Dartmouth, and proximity for short-drive day trips to historic UNESCO World Heritage designated Lunenberg, picturesque Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore, South Shore, Annapolis Valley, majestic Cape Breton Island (Cabot Trail & Highlands National Park), neighbouring province New Brunswick and more. As mentioned, transit to downtown Halifax is an 8-minute bus ride on Bus # 7 from just outside our home to the downtown terminal. The bus arrives every 15-minutes on weekdays and every 30-minutes on weekends. To access the bus schedule for the stop near to the home (across the street and 3 addresses to the right), please call Metro Transit's 'Go Time' for specific departure times. Given the home's central residential location, the local full-service grocery store is only a 5-minute drive and it's only an 8-minute commute to a variety of malls or major shopping districts such as Bayers Lake, Dartmouth Crossing, Micmac Mall or Halifax Shopping Centre. --- The Guide to Staying at Billy and Courtney's In Halifax: Welcome to Halifax and to our home. We hope that you enjoy your stay! I just thought I would put together a few notes that will help you to enjoy your stay. Given that there is a separate address in the basement of the home (a sousplex), you may see the residents entering and exiting through the shared side entry. Although you will not see or hear from them otherwise, the residents below also share the driveway and laundry. Also, they have a timid black and white cat that you may see in the stairwell on occasion. Lastly, if you could kindly and politely observe the following, it would be greatly appreciated. -No smoking indoors! (An ashtray is provided on the deck.) -No pets! (We have allergies to direct contact with pet fur.) -No parties! -Please lock all doors when leaving the home (Must pull door handle toward street and lock with key.) -Please respect neighbours by keeping noise and music to a respectful level while on deck or in home. -Please shut off all lights when not in use. (Environmental concerns) -Please leave the home in a reasonable state of tidy and cleanliness. -Please only use fireplaces during winter stays. (Not safely equipped for summer, spring or fall usage.) -Please turn off all electric heating upon check-out. -Please avoid the furnace room. -If interested, please place all organic compostable materials and refuse in the big 'Green Big' bin on the side of the home. And of course, what makes any great neighbourhood is the kindness and respectfulness of the people within it. We're blessed with lovely neighbours and community members. Guest AccessAll contents of the home including bedding, towels, dishes, cookware and bar tools are provided for your comfort and convenience. The home comes equipped with free unlimited Wi-Fi access, free 24-hour parking (for multiple cars), stove, a fridge (with freezer), a coffeemaker, a kettle, a dishwasher, a microwave, a bar fridge and a BBQ. The NeighborhoodHuffington Post Newspaper's "10 of Canada's Hottest Neighbourhoods to Call Home" North End (Halifax, Nova Scotia): "North End Halifax was recently nominated by Herald Magazine as best community for urban living in Atlantic Canada, and it's not hard to see why. The tree-lined streets and way-cool pubs make this a desirable neighbourhood for those wishing to combine contemporary urban allure with the relaxed pace of Atlantic Canada living." --- Chronicle Herald Newspaper's "The best places to live in Atlantic Canada" "Looking at all the factors, Halifax's north end came out top overall." --- Our guests love our neighbourhood because of its lovely views, proximity to downtown, accessibility to green space and parks, unlimited free parking, and quiet nature. Getting AroundTransit to downtown Halifax is an 8-minute bus ride on Bus # 7 from just outside our home to the downtown terminal. The bus runs every 15-minutes on weekdays and every 30-minutes on weekends. The SpaceWe love our home! A registered Heritage Property, its the perfect mix of the old and new, with the most amazing Harbour/Ocean View from both main and upper decks. I have a backyard garden where my 3 cats love to spend time when they are tired of the of the decks. The neighbourhood is charming and friendly and great for quiet walks away from the bustle of the city of Halifax just across the harbour. A 15 minute walk along picturesque Shore Drive just one street down, gets you to the Harbour Ferry. The outside deck ride is a must and takes you to downtown Halifax in just 7 mins. Along with the spectacular ocean view, our home is a peaceful getaway yet just close enough to the lively downtown vibe of Halifax. A traveller myself, I enjoy meeting people from many cultures. I know how important it is to have a nice place to stay and to have someone who knows the area and can point you to interesting places and/or events. I know my guests will be comfortable and feel at home. The view you have from the private top deck just off of the Loft room is spectacular and showcases the ever changing big sky and Halifax skyline across the harbour. Guest AccessThis largest room in the house has it all. This room has a very comfortable Queen Bed. Closet, dresser drawers and clothes steamer make it easy to unpack and organize. The room has a comfortable seating area with coffee table, chairs and couch organized around a big screen TV with Netflix only(sorry no cable). The huge sliding door and many windows bring in the beautiful day light sun, radiant heat and fresh air. This room features the top deck which will be yours to enjoy anytime. The shared Spa Style bath is located just outside your door. (shared with Gary and I) This Loft Room has it's own sink and vanity! Continental Breakfast served in your room. A Bar Fridge, Microwave, Coffee Maker, Kettle and Toaster make up a small self contained kitchen area in the space. Guests have full access to Wifi. Guest parking is free and available on the street in front of my home or in my driveway. Interaction with GuestsWe do love meeting travellers and am always available when guests first arrive. We like to introduce you to my home, the cats and to be sure you know where things are and are comfortable. We keep maps and brochures of Halifax and Nova Scotia here to help you make plans. We have lived here for many years and have travelled to many places in NS and are more than happy to offer advice regarding dining out, travel, arts and culture and so on. We come and go through the day, often cycling or hitting the beaches or gardening in the backyard. We like our guests to feel as though they have the privacy they need so once you get settled and have the house keys you are free to come and go as you choose. The NeighborhoodDowntown Dartmouth is on the move; with lovely parks, Saturday market, fine restaurants, outdoor amphitheatre, golf course, and "Two If By Sea", the best coffee/pastry shop in the area! Interlude Spa is also very close and known for its excellent services in a beautiful setting. Since moving from Halifax to Dartmouth just over a year ago, I have rediscovered my love of cycling. Numerous bicycle paths are close at hand and vary from an easy 10K harbour edge trail to the more strenuous 40K that takes you over the Salt Marshes to Lawrencetown Beach, well known with surfers. These beautiful trails have been developed by taking over the old overland railroads. Lake Banook, walking distance, is another highlight of central Dartmouth. This world class paddling lake has been the training site for many Canadian Olympians. You can watch training daily or swim at the little beaches on the lake. Getting AroundThe Halifax/Dartmouth Ferry is only a 15 minute walk down the shore from here and the ferry ride over is 7 minutes. The local city bus terminal is 5 blocks away. 20 minutes driving to the airport and close to highways heading out of town towards Annapolis Valley, PEI and Cape Breton. Parking is available on the street or in driveway. Other Things to NoteThere is a rail track a street away on the waterfront. The trains can be a bit loud throughout the night as they shunt their cars. Depends on the night and there seems to be no real schedule. It's obviously quieter this time of year with the windows and doors closed. We do supply earplugs for those light sleepers. A few guests have mentioned it in their feedback but for most it hasn't been an issue at all...

The SpaceLocated in Halifax on the Dartmouth side of the Harbour. Just 5 minutes from the waterfront and ferry to downtown Halifax, this apartment offers the advantages of an urban location, but with green space that allows for a full appreciation of summer on the East Coast - your own backyard space, grilling on the barbecue, a chance to relax in the sun or shade with your favorite magazine. The unit is the first-floor of a unique modern home (constructed 2008) in a historic neighborhood of cute 1900-era wooden houses, parks, and tree-lined streets. It is offset 100ft from the main street, and surrounded by well-kept yards and gardens - truly an urban oasis. Our family (Carl, Jean, and Mary Louise live on the second and third floor. The unit is fully furnished and equipped. It would most comfortably accommodate two guests. Internet, TV, and parking are included. There is also a barbecue and outdoor eating area, and a claw-foot cast iron tub perfect for deep relaxation. Several great restaurants in the neighborhood include Nectar (excellent cocktail menu), the Wooden Monkey (organic / vegetarian options), and Celtic Corner (sometimes featuring live celtic music). We also recommend the croissants at the award-winning Two If By the Sea Cafe, just a four minute walk from our place. For those looking to workout, day-passes are available at the the nearby Dartmouth Sportsplex, and we are also in the process of setting up a small gym on-site. The main public bus terminal in Dartmouth is just a 10-minute walk across the Dartmouth Commons (park overlooking Halifax Harbor), providing easy access to most destinations in the Halifax metro area for those who prefer to avoid the hassle of driving and parking in an unfamiliar city (given the geography, Halifax's roads are anything but grid-like!). Also a 10 minute walk to the Dartmouth Ferry which frequently crosses the Harbour and docks in the heart of Halifax's downtown.

The market also features neat shops and restaurants that make this friendly neighbourhood quite special and a popular destination in the city. The SpaceOur home is a fairly unique space. It has been lovingly landscaped with slate front entrance and pathways, a very private courtyard of granite with a waterfall, fire-pit and organic gardens that feature espalier honey crisp apples, grapes, pear, cherry and peach trees. The peaches start in mid August to mid September and the apples are harvested in the fall. Bing Cherries come in earlyJuly as well as Blueberries and Stawberries throughout the summer. There is also a vegetable garden that has snap peas, lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers. There is a master bedroom with a king bed and a studio room with a double and 2 rooms with twin beds. The space is great for entertaining and features a large elegant glass table that sits eight or more which was made by my late brother Olympic figure skating champion Rob McCall and Brian Orser. The studio room at the end of the hall in an actual recording studio where your host Steve McCall recorded his debut album "One" (URL HIDDEN) The studio has a large soundproof door that can be closed off from the rest of the home. There is also a double air mattress available that can be placed in the studio to accommodate up to eight guests. Your host Steve McCall, a 25 year veteran of Massage Therapy owns and operates the Neuromuscular Treatment Center in the downstairs of the home. The clinic will remain in operation during certain weeks throughout the summer as clients enter and exit through a separate entrance from the upstairs. Steve would be happy to help you with any rehabilitation or pain relief needs while you are here. There are 2 driveways and free parking everywhere. We have high speed internet/ wifi and big screen TV with Netflix and Cable TV. Guest AccessGuests will, have privacy and access to the main floor of the home and gardens. Guests also have shared access to the downstairs laundry room and second washroom as needed. Interaction with GuestsI am sharing rooms by the night or whole house negotiable. I have available a single and or a double mattress. I work in the downstairs Massage clinic through the day. The NeighborhoodA quiet upscale neighbourhood with a great school down the street and friendly neighbors who respect privacy. We are closer to downtown Halifax than many places on the Halifax peninsula (10 mins by car in non rush hour). Dartmouth is the "City Of Lakes" and so there are many places to cool off of walk within nature. It is a lovely 15 minute walk past lakes and Sullivans Duck pond to the Dartmouth Ferry Terminal / Farmers market/ high quality restaurants. We often enjoy taking the ferry across the harbour to the waterfront in downtown Halifax. If you are more inclined to Ocean beaches, Cow Bay ( "The" City Beach)is 15 mins drive and Larencetown and Martinique beaches are approximately 30 minutes drive. There is a lovely picturesque fishing village / boardwalk and beach called East Passage within 10 mins drive. Getting AroundThere are bus stops at the bottom of the hill and at Mic Mac Mall which is a 5 min walk. If our bikes are here guests have access to their use or you can rent a bike from "The Bike Peddler" on Portland St. We hope to make your stay enjoyable and stress free! :)
