The SpaceEnjoy the cosy confines of a bungalow-style single floor home including a large deck (50' x 12') with harbour and bridge views in Halifax's centrally located Hydrostone North (voted one of the Great Neighbourhoods in Canada/Great Places in Canada by Canadian Institute of Planners in 2011). The home is located within sight of parks (including a dog park, ample green space, basketball and tennis courts) and in close proximity to downtown Halifax (30-minute walk, 8-minute drive or bus ride from just outside the home).
The most frequently mentioned attraction aside from the comfort and space our home offers is that you'll enjoy a fabulous view of the best residential sights of the harbour and bridge that our city has to offer from the 50-foot deck. The views are beautiful -- particularly at dusk and dawn. The deck also provides a serene setting to enjoy morning coffee, meals, reading, tanning/sunning, cooking and general relaxation. Just off the deck is a bar area including a bar fridge making for lovely evening cocktail options.
My pride ourselves on ensuring that our guests have all they require in order to enjoy a most comfortable stay. Over the past two years, we have hosted international guests from China, Australia, England, Northern Ireland, Belgium, San Francisco, New York City, Boston, Seattle as well as many compatriots from Newfoundland, Ontario, Quebec and Alberta to great satisfaction and rave reviews.
The home includes: 3 beds, 2 baths, 2 large living rooms and a full-service kitchen. Given the bungalow-style, all rooms are on the same floor, however, they are separated into two distinctly different areas -- one with a bedroom, bathroom and sunken livingroom, and the second area with two bedrooms, a bathroom and the second livingroom. The floor plan is ideal both in terms of accessibility (only three stairs) and privacy.
All contents of the home including bedding, towels, cookware, dishes, cutlery and bar tools & glassware are included for your convenience. The home also comes equipped with secured unlimited free high speed Wi-Fi access, free 24-hour parking, a dishwasher, a coffeemaker, a kettle, a microwave and a large stainless steel BBQ for outdoor grilling.
In terms of the neighbourhood, most amenities are within walking distance. A lovely walk through the historic Hydrostone area and past Fort Needham Park (Home of the historic Halifax Explosion Memorial) will lead you to the Hydrostone Market which offers many amenities including a few restaurants/cafés, a coffee shop, a bakery, a boutique, a butcher, an olive oil shop, a health foods store, an art gallery, a pub, and a spa, salon & masseuse -- among other conveniences. The home is also within walking distance of a pharmacy/small grocer, a convenience store, and a beer, wine & spirits store -- all only a short stroll away. A trip to the full-service grocery store is also near. All of these walks offer incredible panoramic views of the city, parks, the harbour and bridge.
The proximity to downtown in this urban area does not compromise the quiet family-friendly residential nature of the neighbourhood, despite being only minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown and waterfront Halifax -- including its waterfront boardwalk, cobblestone and Argyle Streets (home to local gastronomy), historic Citadel Hill and the university district. The area also provides ease of access to Halifax's suburbs of Clayton Park, Sackville, Bedford, Dartmouth, and proximity for short-drive day trips to historic UNESCO World Heritage designated Lunenberg, picturesque Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore, South Shore, Annapolis Valley, majestic Cape Breton Island (Cabot Trail & Highlands National Park), neighbouring province New Brunswick and more.
As mentioned, transit to downtown Halifax is an 8-minute bus ride on Bus # 7 from just outside our home to the downtown terminal. The bus arrives every 15-minutes on weekdays and every 30-minutes on weekends. To access the bus schedule for the stop near to the home (across the street and 3 addresses to the right), please call Metro Transit's 'Go Time' for specific departure times.
Given the home's central residential location, the local full-service grocery store is only a 5-minute drive and it's only an 8-minute commute to a variety of malls or major shopping districts such as Bayers Lake, Dartmouth Crossing, Micmac Mall or Halifax Shopping Centre.
The Guide to Staying at Billy and Courtney's
Welcome to Halifax and to our home. We hope that you enjoy your stay! I just thought I would put together a few notes that will help you to enjoy your stay.
Given that there is a separate address in the basement of the home (a sousplex), you may see the residents entering and exiting through the shared side entry. Although you will not see or hear from them otherwise, the residents below also share the driveway and laundry. Also, they have a timid black and white cat that you may see in the stairwell on occasion.
Lastly, if you could kindly and politely observe the following, it would be greatly appreciated.
-No smoking indoors! (An ashtray is provided on the deck.)
-No pets! (We have allergies to direct contact with pet fur.)
-Please lock all doors when leaving the home (Must pull door handle toward street and lock with key.)
-Please respect neighbours by keeping noise and music to a respectful level while on deck or in home.
-Please shut off all lights when not in use. (Environmental concerns)
-Please leave the home in a reasonable state of tidy and cleanliness.
-Please only use fireplaces during winter stays. (Not safely equipped for summer, spring or fall usage.)
-Please turn off all electric heating upon check-out.
-Please avoid the furnace room.
-If interested, please place all organic compostable materials and refuse in the big 'Green Big' bin on the side of the home. Garbage goes in bins on side of home.
