The SpaceWatch the ocean sunset from the jacuzzi on the upstairs deck. Walk just down the street to a quiet, but well-known beach for surfing, windsurfing, off-leash dog frolicking, tide pooling, beach glass collecting, bonfires, and cliff strolling. The home is surrounded by State Protected open land and has no fencing, which leads to an incredible feeling of expansiveness and privacy. The neighborhood has only 5 other homes on the sand. You have a 360 degree view of green, rolling hills, cows, wildflowers, and ocean.
The home was constructed around the view and the natural setting. Look for natural finishes (bamboo, slate, granite, maple, zebra wood, etc.) along with personal touches in the construction (porthole-windowed mahogany front door, custom surfboard-inspired fireplace mantel, compass in laid into the tile, wetsuit hooks in the Master Bathroom, etc.)
The visit feels like a remote retreat, but is conveniently located near everything one could want (a small town within a mile; the City of Santa Cruz within a 10 minute drive; and the metropolis of San Francisco only an hour or so away...with all driving being along the spectacular ocean Highway One. A one mile walk to the small town of Davenport brings you to three restaurants/bars with live music, wine tasting, art galleries, gift/crafts shop, Country Store, Post Office and a church. Guest AccessThe upstairs Great Room has unobstructed views of the ocean and the green hillsides via numerous large windows and skylights. This 'space includes the well-appointed kitchen, dining area, fireplace, sofa bed, large HD Television with Satellite Dish, HBO and Showtime, Xbox, a built-in desk area and a 1/2 bathroom. The deck hosts the jacuzzi and outdoor shower. This Great Room space is excellent for entertaining or communing with extended families.
Downstairs are the three bedrooms and two full baths. The Master Bedroom also has a romantic sitting area with a television and a warm gas fireplace. (We can make available a professional massage table, if requested.)
The Master Bathroom has an enormous two-headed walk in, custom tiled shower that can fit several people.
Bed linens, bath towels, beach towels, washer and dryer and iron are all available to guests.
High speed internet also available, as well as a hard-line telephone for emergencies.
Outside on the slate patio is a BBQ, ping pong table and basketball hoop amidst twinkling string lights and a mature landscaped yard.
Guests have access to a private footpath over the hill to the beach. We have a small bench and platform at the top of the path with sweeping ocean views for sitting, meditation, yoga, etc. Interaction with GuestsHosts are nearby and available as needed by guests. (Available 24 hours a day, by phone.) We will make available a list of recommended nearby restaurants and activities, and are happy to make personalized suggestions as well. The NeighborhoodHouse is walking distance (one mile) to the town of Davenport, which has three restaurants, wine tasting room, a neighborhood store, a church, art galleries, and a post office. Getting AroundHouse is on ocean side of Highway One, with an easy 10-minute drive down the beautiful coastal highway to the City of Santa Cruz. Easy access to public transportation; (Bus stop is across the street.) Other Things to NoteSanta Cruz County Vacation Rental Permit (#CO00547) requires an 11% Transient Occupancy Tax be charged, as well as a Vacation Rental Lease agreement to be signed before check in.
