Wander a little further and you'll find boutiques, cafes, a gallery, gift shops and a good old country pub. GETTING HERE You can get here easily in 1 hr 45 mins by car from Melbourne or by V-line train from Southern Cross station - 3 trains daily direct to Birregurra. THE ROOMS We have two beautiful rooms, newly renovated and appointed with a small but smart bathroom ensuite. The beds are queen size and are fitted with high quality cotton linen and oversized doonas. Price is for one room with queen bed for 2 people only. At winter we fit electric blankets - perfect for those cold nights. Each room has a flat screen LED TV, a desk and hanging space for your clothes. They also both have a wonderful skylight that lights up the room during the day and showcases stars at night. Panel heaters are in the room to keep you warm in winter and for summer there is a fan. We don't have airconditioning - you won't need it. That's the benefit of having a well insulated energy efficient home. GUEST AREAS The B&B also has a guest lounge and breakfast room with a kitchenette where you can help youselves to tea and coffee and store some food if you are staying a while. There is a microwave, a bbq and access to basics such as salt, pepper and oil. Outside, you can sit and enjoy your meal under the pergola out the back or on the front porch. There are many other areas in the garden to sit, relax and while away a few hours with a good book. OUR ETHOS Our ethos is sustainability and relaxation. We produce and harvest our own fresh fruit and veges, we generate much of our electricity and we have retrofitted our house to be as energy efficient as possible. To relax, you can lounge on the front porch with a glass of wine or a coffee and watch the world go by. We have a set of golf clubs you can borrow to play a round of 9 holes across the road at Birregurra Golf Club (A$10 per day). Also, if you're a budding or frustrated artist, you can buy a canvas and some paint from me, grab an easel and some brushes from my studio and head out into the garden or over to the golf course and paint your own masterpiece. Our garden in a work in progress and in 2 years has gone from a paddock to a lush ramble of pathways, orchard, vege patch, native hideaway and cottage garden. We're new to gardening and make plenty of mistakes, so each time you come, something will be different. We love it and hope you do to. You can wander through, pick an apple if it's ready and sit among the asparagus and beans. If you wanted to have dinner, we can arrange it for you for a modest price - I'm a chef and love to cook from the garden.. The SpacePLEASE READ ALL OF THE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR PLACE BEFORE BOOKING ESPECIALLY REGARDING SOLAR POWER AND ENVIRONMENTAL TOILET. We want you to be comfortable during your stay and suited to the accommodation that we provide. Babenorek Studio was hand built by us and a builder friend 15 years ago to live in with our 3 young children while we built our family home close by. It is constructed from Lime rendered Straw Bales so the walls are extremely well insulated making it cool in summer and warm in winter with no need for air conditioning. The use of recycled timbers and building materials is prominent through out the building. As well as being an important part of our sustainable building ethos these materials add to its rustic, homely appeal. There is an internal rendered mud brick wall and an earth floor in the living room. Upstairs is a QS bed with your choice of a feather or woollen doona and 2 single beds. Downstairs there is a gas oven for cooking and a Nectre wood fire for warmth which can also be used to boil the kettle or cook soup on. A small fridge will store enough food and drinks for a few days. A spacious bathroom with a waterless composting toilet and a shower is adjacent to the kitchen/living area. There is also an outside shower to wash the sand off when you return from the beach or cool off under on a hot night. Guest AccessBabenorek Studio is attached to our house by a wide carport but has its own private entry and is secluded enough for a couple or young family to enjoy time to themselves. Car parking is right beside the studio so you can come and go as you please. Interaction with GuestsAs travellers ourselves we know that you can learn a lot from the locals and we are more than willing to assist you with information about your stay in the area. We are also happy to respect your privacy if you are looking for a quiet weekend away. The NeighborhoodDeans Marsh is a small rural farming town situated on the edge of the Otway Ranges. In recent years it has developed into a creative and vibrant artistic community with Open Studio weekends, Gallery's and live music playing regularly at local Wineries and the infamous Marshian's Café. You can link up with the historic Coal Train walk at our front gate and there are many other walks and waterfalls nearby in the beautiful Otway Ranges. Restaurants, cafes and The Deans Marsh Store all offer good local food....and Dan Hunters restaurant Brae is in the nearby historic town of Birregurra if the budget allows. There are two Berry Farms a short distance away that operate seasonally. The magnificent coast and all it has to offer are a scenic 25 min drive away through tall rain forest. Getting AroundWe are 135 km from Melbourne CBD and 22 km to Lorne and The Great Ocean Road. Other Things to NoteAs with our home, Babenorek Studio operates off a Stand Alone Solar System. This means that we collect all our power from the sun and are not connected to any mains power. This can sometimes be an issue if we have had several days of cloudy weather, however we do use a generator when needed. We charge electrical appliances such as laptops and mobile phones during the sunlight hours and ask our guests to do the same. Please don't bring any hair straighteners, hair dryers or irons as they can overload our system. There is no TV in the Studio but plenty of books and board games to entertain you. Please bring your own laptop if you want to watch films or visit the historic Lorne Cinema. We have 2 friendly dogs Lucy an elderly Fox Terrier X and Gus an energetic black Kelpie who LOVES to have a ball thrown for him.
