The SpaceWelcome to our little homestead-- we live and work on property, raising our own food and teaching our children. Forget carefully manicured tourist Maine-- this is the real deal! Chickens, half-done projects, food growing everywhere and lots of other farm animals await your arrival.
Our property is connected to hundreds of acres of wildness. With blueberry fields, hiking trails, a tiny pond (home to nesting migrating water foul) and The Great Pond Mountain Land Trust's Wildlands the outdoor enthusiast will feel at home!
Eco-minded travelers will be happy to be sleeping in a solar powered apartment and living lightly for a time. The apartment is well-equipped, clean, comfortable and bright. Please note that the apartment is a separate, ground-level, space within the main farmhouse (a solar powered timber frame). Horses, birds and pets meander by the apartment's front door daily.
Please remember you are looking at/booking a backwoods solar powered FARM location. We have biting insects. We have power outages. We have barn flies. We have roosters. We have bats. We have spiders. We have noises in the night. And also the brightest stars, most hopeful outlook, and warmest hearts. We hope you will book with us and leave inspired ! Guest AccessMany acres of hiking/biking/skiing/snowmobiling/horseback trails are just outside the door. Guests may borrow a canoe , join in seasonal homestead activities (maple syrup, apple cider, tree felling, blueberry raking, garden harvesting etc), or simply soak in the energy of a life lived simply. Interaction with GuestsGuests can reach owners at any time, we live at the property and operate business as well as tend gardens here. For travelers looking to save money, who don't mind working, we offer discounted stays for a few hours of work. Please ask for tours in advance and let the girls (Maizey 12, and Ella 10, are your tour guides) know how much time you have-- short tours just visit the animals and longer tours will walk through the gardens and perhaps elsewhere. They are always grateful for tips or the thank you notes you leave for them when you depart. To find us online search: Nancy Place Homestead. We have a webpage, a (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), and an instagram. The Neighborhood** This location is EXTREMELY rural, and totally off-grid woodsy farmy location. While truly less than an hour from Acadia, it is a rural FARM. There are roosters, goats and wild animals that make noises, as well as biting insects, spiders, and bats! Our solar power isn't perfect, we have power outages at times! Please, if you book, know this in advance and don't rate us low on Location, where we get our lowest ratings. Come and enjoy the wild uniqueness of an off-grid homestead, knowing it might be out of your comfort zone and that you'll be in for an Experience to remember, roosters and all! Our broader neighborhood is spread out, as many rural Maine neighborhoods are, but ours is special! It is called Happytown. . . we even have a song that you might find on YouTube. Neighbors regularly get together for sharing food and music and our guests will be welcome to join any local events, ask us what might be going on! Getting AroundThis is a rural location, there is no public transit. A 4wd is recommended but not absolutely necessary. The last 1/4 mile of road is a bumpy, narrow lane that meanders through a neighbor's property and the forest before coming to the Nancy Place Homestead. Other Things to NotePlease remember to request canoes, farm tours, breakfast ($8) or needed info ahead of time. The canoe trip is free if you have a vehicle that can transport the canoe and $10 if you need to arrange drop off and pick up.
A second, rustic cabin is available if you are traveling in a larger group. The cabin can be added on to your stay for an extra $50/night when it is available. We also have a campsite, sleeping 6, in retro campers and a hostel also on property. All listings can be found on Airbnb.
