The SpaceWelcome to our little homestead-- we live and work on property, raising our own food and teaching our children. Forget carefully manicured tourist Maine-- this is the real deal! Chickens, half-done projects, food growing everywhere and lots of other farm animals await your arrival. Our property is connected to hundreds of acres of wildness. With blueberry fields, hiking trails, a tiny pond (home to nesting migrating water foul) and The Great Pond Mountain Land Trust's Wildlands the outdoor enthusiast will feel at home! Eco-minded travelers will be happy to be sleeping in a solar powered apartment and living lightly for a time. The apartment is well-equipped, clean, comfortable and bright. Please note that the apartment is a separate, ground-level, space within the main farmhouse (a solar powered timber frame). Horses, birds and pets meander by the apartment's front door daily. *****disclaimer***** Please remember you are looking at/booking a backwoods solar powered FARM location. We have biting insects. We have power outages. We have barn flies. We have roosters. We have bats. We have spiders. We have noises in the night. And also the brightest stars, most hopeful outlook, and warmest hearts. We hope you will book with us and leave inspired ! Guest AccessMany acres of hiking/biking/skiing/snowmobiling/horseback trails are just outside the door. Guests may borrow a canoe , join in seasonal homestead activities (maple syrup, apple cider, tree felling, blueberry raking, garden harvesting etc), or simply soak in the energy of a life lived simply. Interaction with GuestsGuests can reach owners at any time, we live at the property and operate business as well as tend gardens here. For travelers looking to save money, who don't mind working, we offer discounted stays for a few hours of work. Please ask for tours in advance and let the girls (Maizey 12, and Ella 10, are your tour guides) know how much time you have-- short tours just visit the animals and longer tours will walk through the gardens and perhaps elsewhere. They are always grateful for tips or the thank you notes you leave for them when you depart. To find us online search: Nancy Place Homestead. We have a webpage, a (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), and an instagram. The Neighborhood** This location is EXTREMELY rural, and totally off-grid woodsy farmy location. While truly less than an hour from Acadia, it is a rural FARM. There are roosters, goats and wild animals that make noises, as well as biting insects, spiders, and bats! Our solar power isn't perfect, we have power outages at times! Please, if you book, know this in advance and don't rate us low on Location, where we get our lowest ratings. Come and enjoy the wild uniqueness of an off-grid homestead, knowing it might be out of your comfort zone and that you'll be in for an Experience to remember, roosters and all! Our broader neighborhood is spread out, as many rural Maine neighborhoods are, but ours is special! It is called Happytown. . . we even have a song that you might find on YouTube. Neighbors regularly get together for sharing food and music and our guests will be welcome to join any local events, ask us what might be going on! Getting AroundThis is a rural location, there is no public transit. A 4wd is recommended but not absolutely necessary. The last 1/4 mile of road is a bumpy, narrow lane that meanders through a neighbor's property and the forest before coming to the Nancy Place Homestead. Other Things to NotePlease remember to request canoes, farm tours, breakfast ($8) or needed info ahead of time. The canoe trip is free if you have a vehicle that can transport the canoe and $10 if you need to arrange drop off and pick up. A second, rustic cabin is available if you are traveling in a larger group. The cabin can be added on to your stay for an extra $50/night when it is available. We also have a campsite, sleeping 6, in retro campers and a hostel also on property. All listings can be found on Airbnb.

The SpaceOur cozy one-bedroom cabin is nestled in the woods on a developing, off-grid, permaculture homestead. We border trails and a 5,000 acre preserve. Easy drives to adventures in Acadia National Park or other quaint coastal towns. The cabin is perfect for your budget get-away! With a small kitchen (mini-fridge, outdoor 1 burner propane stove & gas grill, cold running water), an attached composting toilet, and outdoor solar or propane shower options, you will have that rustic Maine adventure you are looking for. Fall asleep to peepers and owls and awake to roosters! We live on the premises and are available if any issues arise. Our daughters will give property tours -advance notice please (they love tips, if you are inclined). Guests are welcome to join any homestead activities at no additional charge, although often our summer season activities open to guests are limited to animal chores due to the skill level needed in the gardens. Seasonal activities include food processing, blueberry harvest, maple syrup harvest, wine making, gardening, hunting, carpentry, and cider making. Nestled in the forest, your neighbors are spring peepers, coyote and owl calls in the night, summer cicada and cricket song and grunts and calls of the farm animals . The stars brighten the sky and "neighborhood" is complete. (Check out our other rentals- the sweet solar efficiency, for a less rustic experience, our retro campers or our hostel) Guest AccessGuests may borrow a canoe for a local adventure ($10 if you need transport if canoe) or there are trails for hiking, biking, skiing & snowmobiling just outside the door. Horse lovers may bring horses along-- no charge for board, but bring your own hay/grain! Please note that this rental does not include wifi and our rentals do not use common electrical appliances or tvs. Wifi is available on the porches/ common spaces at the nearby hostel and cell phone reception is generally decent. Interaction with GuestsWe live on property-- guests may stop in with questions or concerns during daylight hours. Guests may join in seasonal activities and visit farm animals & gardens with host permission. Please schedule tours in advance. Our daughters (Maizey 12, Ella, 10) are usually your guides and they are always thrilled when guests leave them thank you notes, treats, or tips for their effort. They are never paid by us, nor do they receive an allowance. Seasonal garden food is typically available for purchase. The NeighborhoodWe call our very rural neighborhood Happytown. We often have get togethers, jam sessions, or work parties. We are farmers, realtors, artists, teachers, carpenters, lobstermen, foresters, health workers & and talented, hard working folks if all walks. Getting AroundA vehicle is recommended. Other Things to NoteMeals are not included, however a farm share for your stay can be purchased and might include eggs, cooking and salad greens, herbs, chicken, and fresh tomatoes. Breakfast, for $8, is usually available with advance notice and can be delivered to you between 7-9 am.
