The SpaceWe are only 7 minutes up a country road from Deloraine, and central to the north of Tasmania with both Launceston and Devonport 45 minutes away. Deloraine is a beautiful town, and the gateway to some good bushwalking. Cradle Mountain is a 1 hour 45 minutes country drive from here. We have the woodfire going in winter, cosy and warm. The guest room is warm and light, north facing with French doors to outside, next to a country kitchen. You are welcome to use the kitchen or barbecue to cook meals yourself. We have a three person Far Infrared sauna available for a small fee, towels for sauna and shower (or hot bath) are supplied. A TV is provided with many movies for guests to watch in bed at night. We love a good conversation, we love people. But we also respect people's need for privacy, and the need to relax and enjoy the quiet. We also offer alternative health therapies - detox Far Infrared saunas, healthy eating programs/weight loss, and Therapeutic Essential Oil massages. We are 'alternative' in our lifestyle, so we don't have a microwave or a dishwasher, and are fairly down to earth and natural. We do love our uncomplicated life here, and love to share what we have with our guests - and do enjoy hearing their stories and ideas on life in return. This whole area has a great community spirit, with a large population of artists and craft people living locally. Deloraine is a lovely place to spend some time, but is not far to Cradle Mountain and the Marakoopa Caves or other day trips. There are lots of short day walks in the area and interesting places to visit. This is also a chemical free household, suitable for those with allergies or chemical sensitivities etc; we drink and shower in Tasmanian rainwater (no fluoride or chlorine) and use no chemicals to clean, and our food is mainly organic local produce. We hope you will come and enjoy our simple 'down to Earth' lifestyle. Guest AccessOur guest room is spacious and light, the kitchen is available to use for cooking meals and the dining room for eating or just relaxing. The lounge room is available to use, having a big TV and the wood fire is quite cosy. The bathroom is shared with us and any other guests. The grounds outside with seating and BBQ area are for general use. Interaction with GuestsWe are always around and can help with planning out your visits to local attractions. We are both qualified in doTERRA Aromatouch therapeutic Essential Oil massages. We offer one free 45 minute oils massage (Aromatouch Technique, $45 value) for bookings of 2 or more nights - very relaxing and healthy. The NeighborhoodThe local town of Deloraine is friendly and pretty, with river walks and ducks to feed. There is a good variety of shops and places to eat out. Getting AroundI can provide transport to and from Cradle Mountain Resort and Lake St Clair Resort for those doing the 6 day Overland Track walk, at arranged times to suit you for a fee of $280. This saves having to leave your car in a remote area for days, and the transport cost of returning to your can. Your car will be kept safe here. (The Walls of Jerusalem access road is blocked at the moment, due to flood damage.) Other Things to NoteWe have guests sometimes camping in our Tree Tent, they are away from the house so should not be an inconvenience. They do share the bathroom. The 2 person Tree Tent is available to book with the room, so we can cater for 6 people as a group.

Interaction with GuestsI live on the property in a barn behind the house. I am a natural health practitioner/movement and massage therapist. I enjoy the tranquility of the garden & sharing this lovely space with others. You are welcome to a book a remedial massage with me. I am happy to share information about the garden and share produce when it is seasonally available. Can provide regional information on bushwalks, good local food cafes & restaurants and markets, and all that is beautiful about Tasmania. Sometimes we all need places to retreat and my home is created so you can do as much or as little as you like here, and when I'm available I can assist you with your travels and what's special to enjoy about my unique part of the world. I'm passionate about facilitating healthy environments and places for wellbeing... The NeighborhoodDeloraine is a beautiful quaint small rural village that is full of crafts and arts people, loved by artists because of the natural beauty of the Great Western Tiers and the wild beauty of the wilderness beyond. The Meander River weaves it way through the centre of town, it's source high in the mountains and it's flow irrigates the farms on its way. We are surrounded by rich volcanic farmland with hawthorn hedges, some old stone walls and farm animals all makes for bucolic bliss. Us locals are an ecclectic bunch, environmentalists, nature lovers, artists, healers, farmers, beekeepers, gardeners, with our fair share of quirky & creative types and the usual mix in an interesting rural country town. We grow award winning foods in the region, including the only organic dairy in Tasmania, Elgaar farm, best spuds you'll find anywhere in the world, superb berry farms - blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries. Cafes & Restaurants My favourites are Tasmania food & Wine Conservatory, Bass Highway Sassafras, 15 minutes drive towards Devonport on left - the best regional organic & local food in an exquisite setting of a conservatory. Closed Monday & check their hours in Winter time. In Deloraine the deli is an institution with locals open for breakfast, lunch & afternoon tea, dinner available on Friday & Saturday nights. For dinner we have two pubs that do good quality pub fare, first choice is the Empire Hotel followed by the Deloraine Hotel, both are beautiful old pubs with a good serving of charm and great restoration of original features. The Empire does a decent coffee, and where I'd recommend for a local coffee, if you really like your coffee like me its worth the 15 minute drive to Tasmanian Food & Wine Conservatory. If you are wanting a special dinner and are happy with a 40 minute drive, Launceston & Devonport have some awesome options. My favourites in Devonport are Drift Cafe - lunch & dinner at the Bluff overlooking the sea - local & organically sourced ingredients. Upstairs is Mrs Jones Restaurant same amazing view stunning food and great service - Tassie food at it's best with the best views. While you're at the Bluff take a walk along the beach and continue around the bluff 15 minute walk and views back to Mt Roland, you may catch the Spirit of Tassie leaving or arriving, a pod of dolphins, and maybe some brave surfers in the water. Good cafes in Devonport are The Laneway, tucked away near the Devonport Regional Art Gallery or Playfish. If you're in Launceston, newly opened Geronimo Bar & Restaurant has a great menu and drinks list. Pierre's is an institution. Black Cow & Stillwater are favourites, Stillwater sits on the Tamar with views to the Gorge. Recommended cafes for coffee and lunch in Launceston are Fresh on Charles - vegetarian cafe & great night spot for live music. For a table with a view Gorge Cafe & Restaurant is great for lunch or brunch and then take the walk in the Gorge (: Bushwalking We are located close to World Heritage bushwalking, including Liffey Falls 30 minute drive, take the walk to the falls, and for a longer beautiful walk continue on to the bottom carpark following the river and return the same route. We are 1.5 hour drive to Cradle Mountain. Some great short local walks are Alum Cliffs listed in 60 Great Tasmanian walks booklet - if you like walking check this booklet out from the visitors centre. A lesser know walk and perfect for Summer time is Lobster Falls walk - 10 minute drive towards Mole Creek, walk is down hill to the falls and some beautiful huge freshwater swimming pools and home to our endangared Giant Fresh Water Lobsters - perfect on a hot day and enjoy a picnic on the rocks and late evening platypus can be seen, half half walk, the later part of the walk could do with some repair work, a little rocky and some slips, half hour return via same track up hill. Half day walks to the tiers there are so many, Quamby Bluff, Mother Cummings Peak, Projection Bluff, Lady Lake Hut, and Meander Falls just to mention a few, these are all approximate half hour drive away from Retreat & Harmony, and the walks take half day or full day if you like to take your time and spend time up on the plateau enjoying the views and the botany & fauna. My favourite well known walk in the area is the Walls of Jerasalum. You can do a day walk that will get you to the plateau and stunning views of the walls, if you are very fit you can do a big circuit walk up there and walk up Mt Jerasalum - I've done it all as a day walk, but recommend to spend at least one night up there with your tent, take your time enjoy the magical tarns and the tranquility of this ancient place and the majestic pencil forests. It's an alpine area so you need all your warm layers, wet weather gear and camping stove all year round. Feel free to ask me about walks - I'm a passionate bushwalker so happy to share any info on local walks. Once a year in October/November we host a Craft Fair and 20,000 people descend on our little town where we showcase our Arts & Crafts and welcome local and interstate artisans to share in our festival. We are home to a String Fest held in March each year and welcome musicians of the Stringed variety to fill the community with music and festivity. Getting AroundDeloraine is easily accessible via public transport, buses run from the airport to Launceston, and Redline buses run from Launceston and Devonport to Deloraine, check their website for times. The Meander Valley Visitor Centre is 2 minutes walk away from Retreat and Harmony and Redline buses arrive and leave from here. Other Things to NoteThe house is located in a lovely quiet street of Deloraine on a half acre block, and is generally very quiet with usual noises from the neighbourhood in a rural village. You'll find some basics in the kitchen like milk, salt & pepper & olive oil. And there is always fresh herbs to pick from the garden, and produce seasonally available. The Meander Valley Visitor Centre located on the main street (Emu Bay Road) is 2 minutes walk away from Retreat and Harmony and is a great source of information from locals about our region and a place for travel bookings, tour information etc.

The SpaceSpacious four-bedroom retreat with full kitchen and dining room has a large separate lounge, outdoor entertainment area, and laundry. The gardens have magnificent roses & colourful flower beds in season. Deloraine Holiday Retreat is central to all facilities, but surrounded by farmland & in its lofty position above the village, it allows for an amazingly relaxing & peaceful stay. Sit in a comfy lounge chair or rest in bed while watching the play of shadow & light on the Mountains as the sun sets or the snow clouds blanket the higher peaks in winter. "An absolute magnificent view & experience"; praised a happy guest. And another: "Thank you for your hospitality. A lovely home with spectacular views. It has been a very relaxing time with every detail covered to make us feel welcome and comfortable". "Another great stay at one of your properties......lovely decor, so carefully chosen, spacious, lots of cuddly toys for the boys, a beautiful view--front & back "; enthused another guest from ACT Milk, coffee, tea and juice are provided for arrival. There is easy, accessible & safe off street parking for several cars. The NeighborhoodThe Meander Valley Region is exceptionally beautiful and DELORAINE HOLIDAY RETREAT is the perfect place to use as a base in Northern Tasmania being only 30 minutes from both Devonport and Launceston (ferry & airports) and close to the Coast, a scenic drive to Cradle Mountain, Wild Life Parks, Bush Walking, Wineries on the Tamar and a multitude of other wonderful attractions. Shops & other services are within walking distance, as is the pretty Meander River that has children playgrounds and walks along its banks. Both children & adults like to look out for the platypuses, which can be spotted, as they forage for their food in the river at sunset. Experience some of Tasmania’s unique flora & fauna, lofty mountains, network of over 200 limestone caves & with the added bonus of stunning scenery, visit central northern Tasmania. Here the rugged Great Western Tiers Mountain Range, listed World Heritage Wilderness area, meets the rich fertile pastoral land in the Meander Valley. Using Deloraine as a base, easy drives take the visitor to rainforests & sub-alpine vegetation, where ancient trees grow & tiny wildflowers dot the landscape with colour. Cycling & bushwalking tracks allow the visitor to slow down & view the mosaic of colour in spring & autumn; in summer to smell the bush fragrances on a balmy temperate climate day; in winter sparkling snow capped mountains & crisp air delight the senses. Allow time to catch a glimpse of a native marsupial or pretty bird or try fishing in one of the many trout filled streams & rivers that cascade down from the Central Plateau Lakes. Add all these magnificent natural wonders to the colonial heritage, and Deloraine becomes a DESTINATION not just a place to pass through. Deloraine is a classified historic town with a charming main street that curves gently down to the Meander River — anyone for trout fishing? The town has a cafe culture & a bohemian, “arts & crafts’ feel, making it a natural choice for the Tasmanian Craft Fair in November each year. The fertility of the lush farmland in the surrounding Meander Valley produces the best ingredients for many specialist eatery outlets. Travelers can feast on a selection of gourmet food delights, such as raspberries, cheeses, honey, salmon, lamb or a juicy beef steak.
