Tejakula is by no means a touristic place, on the contrary, its charm draws firstly from the Balinese culture and tradition, specially a tradition in Dance and Music. Almost every week there is a performance somewhere in or around the village where guests are always very welcome. Other Things to NoteThe standard fee is 90 euro/day for max 4 persons. The SpaceWe have TWO rooms- we CAN accommodate a family as we have 1 Double room & king size bed, one twin room & two 3/4 beds. NB. Advertised tariff is per room with B'fast. Both rooms 4* quality, see site images. To book both rooms say for a family you need to go to our "other" listing situated at Airbnb https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/3760940 or just email us telling what you want and we will sort out the details :) :) There are few opportunities left to go back in time and slooow down. This is an unspoiled working Balinese village that moves to the religious and spiritual beat of Balinese life. It's around 8.5k persons, with many temples and associated activities. It is in the NE of the Island and backs onto the two main mountains, hence there is only dry land farming. There are local guides we can introduce you to, who can take you for long walks or you can just explore on your own. Beaches are unspoiled and clear of people, solitude is easy. NB it is remote, in Balinese terms, there is no night life for tourists and also no western pharmacy so do take basic needs. Each day there is a local food and goods market and this is a great way to start your day by having an early coffee at the market Warung, [black sticky rice 'Gadja Cus Cus' is great too!] and watching local life go by. Because of the properties elevation mosquitoes are not a problem - common sense still applies re covering up etc. For SCUBA and environment enthusiasts volunteer work on coral reclamation is available. We also have two good six gear bikes with baskets and luggage carriers for your use. Guest AccessThe property has two rooms, [advertised tariff is per room so if you want two rooms for a family you need to x2], a double and a twin. Breakfast is included in your tariff but other meals can be purchased very economically at several local Warungs. You are in The Spice Islands so do experiment with the local cuisine. Tea and coffee facilities are in each room, as is a fridge and safe box. Rooms are AC and shared bathroom has HWS and WC as well as privacy. We can arrange all pickups and drop offs to anywhere on the island as well as meet and greet at airport. Motor bike taxis are available at your accommodation and we can connect you to English speaking guides also an AC vehicle and driver for hire, who can meet you off the plane and be at your call to take you to any part of the island, at local not tourist prices. Interaction with GuestsLes is as we said remote. Bahasa Indonesian is understood but the langua fraca is Balinese. We can arrange hire of transport and English speaking guides for your whole trip or English speaking local guides can be hired and we can arrange a safe driver with good English for getting in / out and accompany you for your stay, if desired. The accommodation is on a private level above the family dwelling and little communication is possible excepting in Bhasa or Balinese with the family. [We will have an English speaking liaison person on call for you.] The local population is extremely friendly and sign language works pretty well for basic needs. The focus of the property is a wind down opportunity in friendly and unique environment away from western push and shove. Mobile phones work well, both voice, SMS and Email. Opportunities for learning crafts, Balinese cooking, dancing or language can be arranged. Very very good massage can be arranged on your verandah [also inexpensive!]. SCUBA and snorkelling are also available as well as visiting an international corral rehabilitation project or other local attractions. Les has a world class water fall that is a Must Do. Just ask, we want you to enjoy. The NeighborhoodYou are going to be 'off the tourist route'. Please don't come if you want clubs, pubs and discos! We are offering the chance to step back, walk slowly and contemplate. At all times of the year life revolves around a Balinese life style attached to a religious [Hindu] calendar. People are friendly and smiles freely given. The centre point of each day is the market. A typical Balinese home has no refrigeration, so food is bought fresh each day. The market is also the news and gossip centre and the main street is also an adjunct to the market with much social life as well as shopping taking place. Market activity begins at dawn and finishes around 9am. A very early cattle market also occurs in a nearby village. Les boasts a waterfall that deserves Heritage Listing. Its say a fifteen minute walk from the property, guides can be hired who will explain the religious significance of the landmark and may also show you where the guardian python lives nearby. This site has religious significance to the village and donations for its upkeep, made at the guides office, will be appreciated. Getting AroundYou need transport in and out, we can arrange hire from any point and back, as well as on hand during your stay coupled to an English speaking guide/driver at a discount rate. Or come in your own transport and we will have you met. We do recommend a guide though unless you are comfortable in basic Bahasa, for exploring beyond the immediate village. Please remember that Les is a working agricultural village, not a tourist enclave. You will enjoy peaceful serenity, great food and fruit, friendly people, wonderful walks, a quiet beach and no night life - sorry! Other Things to NoteIf you have food allergies YOU are responsible. Observe basic food rules and always drink bottled water. That said you are in the spice islands so sample local cuisine and fruit is always available according to season. Two six speed bicycles with carry baskets can be used by guests, please ask. NB we do not provide cycle helmets. Whilst we can supply WIFI by request at no cost, you should be aware that three mountains partially block all of north Bali's signal. Consequently www connections can be erratic in N Bali by WIFI. Smart phones have no problems, the local mast is in plain view from the property.

Would you like an hours blissful massage on your verandah? Learn Balinese dance? Make craft? Cooking lessons? All of this and more is possible. Interaction with GuestsYou can be totally private if you wish and just 'do your own thing'. However you will get much more value and insights by accepting assistance from our Balinese partners for transport there and back plus have them show you all aspects of the top and bottom villages. Les is their home village and they have extended family living there. They speak good English and Made speaks some Japanese too. They are also delightful people, we strongly recommend you give deep consideration to having them assist you. Local guides can also be hired once you arrive and guest information books are in the rooms. English is generally not spoken in the village so some basic Bahasa is necessary. The NeighborhoodGoing to Les, for me, represents getting off the merry go around of business life! You are stepping back to a much simpler one, no pubs, no clubs, no KFC etc. People are extremely friendly and the famous Balinese smiles and greatings are in profusion as you walk the streets. I start my mornings early by a trip to the daily market. Refrigeration does not exist in ordinary homes. People shop each day. I visit the Warung,[ stallside café] order Koppi Hitam [ black thick Bali coffee] and Kadge Cuss Cuss [black sticky rice] and chat as well as people watch. I buy some fruit and snacks for later in the day then saunter home. Getting AroundAgain we recommend using Ketut who has a six passenger AC vehicle for getting to and from. Motor bike taxis can be hired and we have two new bicycles. Or just walk, much that is missed by zooming past can be experienced by doing so. Other Things to NoteDue to the elevation of the property we do not experience mosquitoes BUT do be sensible and cover up at night as well as wear repellent. You should also use sun screen even if you cant see direct sun, the UV is strong as you are only a few degrees south of the equator. You will also be remote from proper pharmacies, DO bring basic needs.

The name “Tejakula”” comes from this phenomena: “teja = light/glow”, “kula” = us/village, so “the-village-with-the-beautiful-light”. Tejakula is by not a touristic place like Kuta and Legian, on the contrary, its charm draws firstly from the Balinese culture and tradition, specially a tradition in Dance and Music. Almost every week there is a performance somewhere in or around the village where guests are always very welcome. The standard fee is 90 euro for max 4 persons, including breakfast and staff-service. Minimum stay is 2 days. Prices are including breakfast and including energy-costs, water and local tourist-tax. The SpaceOur house is located on the main road of north Bali's coast between Singaraja and Lovina in the traditional village Julah. The house is located on a 2,200 m2 garden, the main building has 2 bedrooms and a big living room, the bathroom and kitchen are in different buildings Balinese style but modern. This is a very piece full place and our family takes care of the garden and can also help with laundry, simple breakfast and traditional Balinese food on demand. Other than that this is a self service house and does not come with a maid or staff. This is a traditional Bali Aga village and there are no shops or restaurants, you can walk to the beach within 5-10 minutes. You might be able to rent a fishing boat, go fishing, interact with the local community, swimming is great, but its a stone beach not sand. The next tourist spot is Air Sanih, a public fresh water pool with some restaurants and there are smaller resorts along the coast also offering lunch and dinner. For shopping you can do basics in Tejakula a 5-10min drive and all major shopping including department store in Singaraja a 30min drive. There are public mini buses frequently passing by, they stop wherever someone wants to join or jump off, prices are cheap but best to ask in advance and also ask them the name of the place you want to go. It's a family home centrally located between Singaraja and Amed, so you can visit some cultural sites or go diving. (URL HIDDEN)

The SpaceDescription Villa & Facilities Come and enjoy the sunrise from the veranda, the seaview from the terrace, the big romantic colorful garden (25 are), snorkeling or swimming under palm trees… Usually there is a cooling sea breeze blowing around the house. In the open-plan living room with heigh ceilings made from alang-alang (a kind of grass) you can enjoy your meal, prepared by yourself or by our cook (highly recommended!). Instead of going to a restaurant our guests prefer a delicious dinner in a romantic setting at home... Up to four people can sleep in the two bedrooms (air-conditioned), each with its own bathroom. You may chill in our relax room (also air-conditioned) on the lounge sofas and enjoy a movie or serie from our DVD collection; or watch the Dutch television channel BVN (Beste Van Nederland). You may also start reading some books out of our library about Balinese art and culture. Our cozy house (200 m²) is decorated with fine Balinese paintings and other art works. Villa Cape Gulah is situated on a slight bulge (cape) in the sea near the fishing village of Tejakula. Living there will feel more authentic and less secluded compared to a resort hotel. It takes 2½ hours to get there from the south (where the airport is located) and 1½ hours to the north from Ubud. When you enter the village Tejakula from the mainroad side of Singaraja, you first passes a bridge and after 200 meter there is a three-way crossing in front of supermarket Maimaret. Turn left to the smaller Jalan Kulkul Kumis (official name of this street is Jalan Dewi Durga) and after 1 kilometer you will find villa Cape Gulah at the end of the road on the leftside. Experience the authentic feeling of living in Bali far away from the hustle and bustle of mass tourism! You may contact us for a video impression of the villa on youtube. Interaction with GuestsStaff & Services During your stay our managers Dewi and Lusi will take care of all your needs (they live nearby and speak good English). Our regular staff also include a gardener and a nightwatch. And a lady that brings daily offerings at our two house temples! Service includes daily cleaning and fresh linen every third day. For an extra charge Lusi or one of her staff can cook you a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner; obtain groceries for you, or organise other professional services like in-house massage. Extra Services Our house manager Dewi can arrange airport or other transfers and sightseeing tours, including trips to temples, waterfalls, rice terraces, markets, and Lake Batur. Dewi can also arrange car or motorbike rental if you prefer to drive yourself. Fishermen are pleased to offer you their small fishing boat to enjoy the sunrise, with the chance of watching dolphins. Or maybe you want to book a scuba dive in the vicinity! The price of these activities is regulated on the spot. All in all, we can offer our guests a list of 16 tips and trips... The NeighborhoodYou can visit the local market early in the morning and have a look in the centre of the village at the interesting historical public bath place. Or take a walk on the grey sandy beach with pebbles to see the production of the famous sea salt of Tejakula. If your are lucky, you will even witness in front of the house the end of an impressive traditional Balinese cremation ceremony. Tejakula is also famous for his Wayang Wong (mask) dance. Dewi himself is an excellent dancer and he will inform you when there is a traditional dance performance.
