A side door will lead you up to the Star room, complete with star themed interior, and large balcony,8x4 metres,a wonderful place to view the night sky, from satellites cruising by,to frequent shooting stars, and beautiful moonrises over the trees towards the ocean, and setting over the forest in the early morning.
There are many spaces to relax and enjoy, with a large BBQ on the roof terrace, where you can cook up all manner of Surf and Turf options. Ask Beatrice for the fishermans number, who will be happy to bring to the house a variety of fresh fish of the day,as well as wonderful oysters from the Indian ocean.
Above the Star room, you will find the Sky deck,a wonderful and breezy place to relax for a sundowner,or just to put your feet up and read a book, with reputedly some of the best views in Diani,as you watch the sun set over the Shimba hills, while enjoying the cool ocean breeze. Please note that the Sky deck is a shared space with Heiku house next door, which has it's own side access. Guest AccessMachweo house is set in 4 acres of indiginous forest. There are walking paths to enjoy the nature, with many birds to be seen.
Guests are welcome to enjoy all the space, including the large pool area, just 10 metres from the house, which has a shaded area, and sunbeds. Interaction with GuestsIf i am around,I am happy to chat and enjoy a drink together,if you would like. If you prefer to be private, the place is very peaceful, and you can enjoy your time without being disturbed.
Im always up for throwing something on the Barby,so if you you want i can help you to arrange, from where to get the best cuts of meat,to the local fishermen who will come to the house on a bicycle(though nowadays have upgraded to BodaBoda motorcycles mostly, which makes for a quicker delivery time),with your order of fresh fish or oysters for the day.
However i am not always at home. If i am away, you can always contact me by phone, otherwise my very capable team of staff will be there to help you. Beatrice is an excellent Cook, and will help with all your day to day needs,as she also stays on the premises. I recommend you take her number on arrival, and she will be happy to help you. Please note that daily cleaning/cooking are at an extra fee,to be arranged with the staff on arrival. You can use this option as much or as little as you like, with the daily cleaning/cooking fee @ (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)llings respectively,on a daily basis. It is entirely at your discretion if you would like to use this facility,or prefer to arrange for yourselves. The NeighborhoodDiani is voted as one of the top ten beaches in the world, and one of the greatest things about this part of the South Coast is that it remains largely unspoilt, with no big developements in the last 50 years, only traditional makuti hotels, which do not greatly impact the skyline, and are attractive in their own right.
Diani now also boasts a Nakumatt and Chandarana supermarket 1-2 km from the house, and many excellent places to eat just a short drive away. There is an excellent Indian restaurant called the ShanePunjab minutes from the house, run by Lovely and Pretti, his wife,a friendly and welcoming couple, with colourful names to boot. They also run a local supermarket which is well stocked for your immediate needs. Other places to look out for are Ali Barbours Cave Restaurant,40 Thieves beach bar,Kennaways Kite Village,Nomads Beach bar and restaurant,Sails,Aniellos,Lymingtons,African Pot,Meat Palace,Kokkos,BidiBadu Beach bar and many more. Just ask...! Getting AroundThere is ample parking space next to the house in a shaded area under some trees.
The house is a 5 minute walk to the main Diani beach road, from where you can get into the local feel and take a matatu up and down the beach road,or to Ukunda or Mombasa for a day trip, should you wish.
If you are with your own transport you will be 1-2 km from most amenities and things you might need during your stay.
If you would like to hire a car for a daily/weekly rate i can give you a reliable contact, who will meet all your rental/taxi requirements. Other Things to NoteThere is Wifi available throughout the house for the duration of your stay, and if you have a local dongle for your own network, there is also good connectivity on all networks.
We have one very friendly dog,Stella, who will also be happy to give you a guided tour of the property if you wish. Shes a bit of a legend,as is Shika the cat,who lives next door. Please treat them with friendliness and respect, and im sure they will reciprocate 10 fold, such are animals.
Unfortunantly,as they are permanently resident,we do have to ask that no other pets are allowed. Thankyou.
