The SpaceExperience some of the best views in, Australia. The Yurt Alpine Retreat is situated in the Victorian High Country on a working farm surrounded by natural bushland perched on top of a mountain in the middle of a vineyard in one of Victorias' wine producing regions. Absolute privacy assured. No neighbours to be seen. Run around in the nude if you are so inclined. The silence is golden. Within 20mins. fine restaurants and wineries. Beautiful and Unique cosy Yurt accommodation. It is great on a cold day sitting in the yurt by the fire looking out through the glass doors at the beautiful views. The Yurt is 5m diameter divided into two sections by a curtain could sleep five people who don't mind being in the same room. There is an outdoor BBQ for cooking on and a small portable gas stove, or a small cast iron indoor stove which keeps it cosy in the cooler weather. After driving along a steep dirt track which winds through natural bushland teeming with kangaroos, wombats, rabbits and deer you will burst onto a plateau with amazing views of the King Valley. Fantastic scenic walks along mountain ridges or through natural bushland. In the morning you will hear the sound of many birds including black cockatoos and beautiful King Parrots. Harry Power's lookout yourself. There are some unique and fine dining restaurants within a 20 min. drive of the Yurt. the nearest shopping centre is 40mins. away so you will need to stock up in Benalla or Wangaratta. We can also take you on a sunset tour of our scenic ridge overlooking the King Valley which is stunning, or you might prefer to go for a hike yourself. Either way your will see fabulous panoramic views. You can return for a glass of chilled wine. We can also arrange night time tours to view the local fauna including deer, wombats, kangaroos, rabbits, foxes etc. A chat around the campfire is a given with possibly some bush poetry thrown in. There is a tripod where you can cook a camp stew in a cast iron pot or boil a billy. This will be a unique way for you to enjoy the Australian bush and glamping experience downunder. Throughout the year, the King Valley showcases it's food and wine produce through a range of festivals, events and wine tastings. Here's a few of the favourites. * "Weekend Fit for a King” held over the Queen's birthday long weekend * "La Dolce Vita Food and Wine Festival” held in November * The King Valley Shed Wine Show is another fun event to keep an eye open for, whereby the public are invited to judge the Valley's best wines through a day well spent wine tasting. Powers Lookout, Paradise Falls and William Hovell Dam are all easily accessible and worth a look. There are also a variety of tours and places of interest for day visitors as well as those staying longer. There are many things to experience in the King Valley. Some you'll need to plan for and others are available all year round. Here's a few ideas worth considering: • Gourmet Food and Wine festivals – there's a range of events scheduled at various times during the year. The main events being the 'La Dolce Vita' held each November and the 'Fit for a King' weekend held over the Easter long weekend. • Wine Tasting/Tours – grab a map and make a day of it visiting all the wineries in the King Valley region. • Day trips to the snow - Mt Buller, Mt Buffalo, Mt Hotham and Falls Creek are all within 1 1/2 hrs drive. • Natural attractions include: Powers' Lookout, Paradise Falls, and William Hovell Dam. All of which are worth a look and just a short drive away. • Driving tours – such as the Ned Kelly route are a great day out and call via Whitfield. • Cycling – whatever you're after you'll find it here. From the front of the house take a right and you're straight into the hills. Go left and you'll find plenty of gentle undulating roads to enjoy. • Golf – there's a 9 hole course located behind the Mountain View Hotel. • Fishing, walking, horse riding and white watering rafting are also options. Have a look online to see what's available. Backpackers, travellers, Woofa's, drop ins and long term stay. Cheshunt Cabins are 1950s workers huts that are being renovated into clean accommodation. We have 3 cabins finished and as plans progress we will setup more, a recreation room with open fire, billard table, internet access and of course our traditional camp fires outside which seem to bring everyone together and good chat. Cheshunt is a quiet Australian country town set in the beautiful King Valley region of Victorian highlands. 3 hours from Melbourne. Set amidst lots of noted wineries and farms the area offers Trout and Murray Cod fishing, National parks with wild deer and Australian animals, kangaroos, wombats, Koalas and a huge variety of native birds. Lake William Hovell is 15 km up the road and walking, biking, trecking, canooing, golf, all close. We are located in the Cheshunt town adjoining farms. There is a local general store 100m, the King River 200m and a bus service to major towns Monday Wednesday and Friday per week. As an avid backpacker and traveller myself I know only too well many places are dirty with crappy beds. At Cheshunt Cabins my goal is to provide good clean beds and linen, clean toilets, cooking facilities with frig, freezer and washing machines to save you money. The property is old but those that have stayed have given wonderful feedback and enjoyed themselves. If you are wanting to experience Australian life then this is the place for you. We are not an employment agency and do not own the farms or wineries but there is a lot of seasonal work available in the area. Grape picking and pruning, fruit picking and hospitality work. Like most jobs one has to get out and talk to people and phone around for jobs. They pay between $16 to $24 per hour depending on what jobs you will be doing. We will be offering some Woofa work. Free accommodation and basic meals for about 3 to 4 hours work per day. Gardening, painting, renovations, weeding, maintenance etc. Not back breaking or slave labour but with a fun element. These wil be limited in numbers and available throughout the year. I also know what it is like to assimulate to local language (Aussie and not English) and meeting new friends. You will find me very helpful and understanding in these matters. Being an ex executive I can also help with any business matters or talking with authorities when in difficulty or experiencing language problems. We will have cabins and dorms available long term from as little as $12 per night and short term from $15 Some of the cheapest rates in Australia. Single night stay per person $28 due to cleaning, booking fee and washing sheets etc. Long stay longer than weekend reduction for week or month. This room has 3 single beds and a large queen size bed in a smaller side room.

The SpaceOriginally the complex was a 1950's SEC worker base and we are slowly renovating the whole project to house lower priced accommodation. The accommodation is basic, but does provide good clean beds with clean linen, new toilets and a full kitchen dining area. We can provide double beds if required and group bookings can be accommodated. There's plenty of room outside for tents or a van and on site parking. Various options for backpackers from dorm or single room short and long term rates available. There is a shared toilet/kitchen block with 2 toilets and 2 Showers. The kitchen has crockery, cutlery, and most appliances, Frig, freezer, and a washing machine for clothes. There is plenty of room to relax and in season can enjoy camp fires and outside BBQ. Shower is hot and lots of water, not a water saving type. It is all a low key relax type space where guests can mingle if wanted or do your own thing with wineries and king river handy. As a master Bookbinder Artist I enjoy good company and chat, good meals and a nice wine. Cheshunt is quite an amazing place to live and enjoy. The community is unique in that people are friendly and old style rural community where people acknowledge and help each other and offer chat and good conversation if wanted. Cheshunt store, about 100m away offers chef quality takeaway, deli and fresh food of a very high standard. For backpackers and workers there is a large offering of work on the vineyards. Pruning season, picking seasons usually last about 3 months and they always seem to be after workers. Woofas are welcome and free stay for some work is OK. Cleaning, gardens, renovation, bookbinding offered. We have a kitchen so you can save lots on meals and basically have one of the cheapest venues in Australia in a very popular area. In the heart of the high country with many fine wineries offering tastings and outings. Winery walkabout, La Dolce Vita and the Jazz festival are extremely popular weekends. The King River, 300m away, is famous for Trout and fly fishing and prized Murray Cod. Also other noted Trout rivers. They are well stocked so people do actually catch fish. Licence required. There is also canoe venues, Alpine National Parks, Trail bike tracks, bush walking, Lake William Hovell is 15km up the road. From Sydney or Melbourne Airport train to Wangaratta. There is a public bus that is available to and from Wangaratta 2 days per week Tuesday and Thursday and the bus stop is about 100m away. To drive take Hume highway to Wangaratta and take Whitfield Road (King Valley) to Cheshunt 50km. After the cheshunt store PO 100m turn left into Edi-Cheshunt Road and we are 75m on the left. Having lived in France for 10 years I have returned to Australia to enjoy a beautiful simple life. The project is only 12 months up and running so as time progresses so too will the amenties and rooms available. There is an organic garden well under way so produce from that is available as are fresh farm eggs. We have a 2mg water licence so there is no shortage of water or restrictions. I love Eurpopean and international visitors and from experience understand visiting foreign countries so I can make you feel like one of the family and help you have a great time when you stay. Guest AccessYour host lives on site and lives in the middle block. On arrival I greet guests to show them their room, kitchen and toilets and let them know what is available in the area. Most areas are accessible and there are some beautiful flowering gardens being established. Interaction with GuestsYes I'm available to offer help about the area and things to do. The NeighborhoodGenerally pretty quiet area with a lot of birds inhabiting the property. Getting AroundThere is a bus service leaving Wangaratta 3pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Departs Cheshunt 4pm for return to Wangaratta. It also collects and drops people off at the station. Other Things to NoteOne group brought their bikes and hired Armish constumes from melbourne. It was very much in keeping with the style of the area and they cycled arounf the area and visited the wineries. It was a novel idea and they had a lot of fun in the process.
